About CLEP A&I Literature
#1
I took this exam (cold) yesterday, and made a 61.

It seems to me that this exam is mostly about reading comprehension. Although some parts of the exam relate to vocabulary, sentence structure, and poetic terms (iamb, stanza, etc.) the version of the exam that I took mostly involved reading a passage (excerpts from plays, books, poems, etc.), and then answering questions about the passage.

I think that anyone who is capable of passing the CLEP College Composition exam is also capable of passing the CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature because it does not require any knowledge of specific literary works or authors.

I like to add that I think this exam calls for a lot of reading "stamina." I consider myself a "reader" and I even had a hard time going the WHOLE time reading long-hard-(boring?) passages and answering questions. I told my son when he went into take it (his idea of reading is Facebook and texting) not to let himself zone out- if he started to feel that way to take a moment and refocus. Anyway, he told me later that he had to do that at least twice.
Of course, everyone's experience varies with this exam, but it's one of my favorites because of exactly what you said- it isn't about content as much as it is about comprehension.

Is there a specific area in the study section that should be focused on rather than studying the entire section of humanities? I'm taking my test tomorrow and am very nervous, need this to graduate with my Bachelor's degree and I just found this website. I'm not big on reading it bores me in general. Thank you for any tips!!

Hi Jenn, you don't have to spend any time studying humanities. This is a reading comprehension exam. You should spend a few minutes googling literature terms, otherwise reading is what this exam is about. Good luck!
P.S. If you're not ready, you can always push back your exam a week, it's better than failing!

Jenn, this exam is seriously all about reading comprehension, with a few SAT words thrown in the mix. If you can read a poem, book, short story, etc., then you will do fine on this exam. It's the easiest Credit by exam test I've taken so far.

Just sent my app to take A&I Lit in July. This is the first CLEP I am actually not going to stress about at all. I'll post results as soon as I take it.
