My goal is now set in stone- I am pursuing a BA in Social Sciences from Thomas Edison State College. I have not yet enrolled, but will at the proper time. Simultaneously, I am working on filling the prerequisites for an MBA at ENMU. Also simultaneously, I am going to see if I can use all of these business credits to help me get an AS in Business Administration from Clovis Community College. A 3-in-one shot, here, and at the lowest possible prices that I can find
So wait, why the AS? The AS in Business won't require me to take any more courses nor exams than I wouldn't have already in just pursuing the Bachelors, and since I will be using it as transfer credits into my Bachelor's degree, the expense will still be covered by the AO Tax Credit. The prerequisites for an MBA amount to 24 some-odd credits, but I would have neither a degree nor even a minor to show for all of that. The AS gives me something in business to show off while I await the completion of my MBA . OR, it would leave me with a business degree to keep on my resume for life if I end up not following through with the MBA at all. It makes a lot of sense for me to do. I just need to see what Clovis' CLEP/DSST policy is, since I'm looking at taking 4 business related exams, and doing the rest from Clovis and LSU.
Poor Excelsior College, though. When I am done with all of this, there would be no good reason at all for me to keep them on my resume. EC did me well when I needed them, but it looks like it is already time to say goodbye.

Sounds like a plan!!!
Maniac if you don't mind my asking, how long do you plan on taking? It sounds like you've got the financial stuff taken care of, but it seems like a lot of trouble to get the Associates. If you're planning on taking several years to do this, it's probably worth it, but if you're going to go quickly, it might not matter.

You could always just get your ASBA at TESC since you will be paying to enroll at the school anyway. I am not sure what the difference is with Clovis and TESC as far as required courses but it could be worth looking into. I also think that you are very smart to get your degree in business because you will always have it and it sounds way better then I have a bunch of business credits.

I plan on getting all of my credits done in 2011, but my actual conferral date will be most likely early 2012. To get the Associates should be no trouble at all, since I am already going to be taking some courses from Clovis to get my BA from TESC. I just decided to make them business courses instead of Sociology courses as I had originally planned. If they take CLEP, then the AS will be simply along the way to getting the BA, with no more time nor money involved.
If I do follow through with the MBA, then that will take a few years. I'm not planning on speeding through it, just getting it done whenever I can.

Hi MC,
How did you come up with the added $3k? If you complete both ASBA and BASS with TESC within the same enrollment year you pay one year annual tuition along with two graduation fees ($257ea).

You can get more then one degree done with in an enrollment year. So it would not cost you 3K if you do it within the same year. You can also graduate with an AA and a BA in the same graduation month.

Oh wow, wait a minute, I didn't realize that! That just might make a difference, since their graduation fee is about the same as Clovis. Thanks for letting me know, I'll look into it.
