Hello! Plus a new source of credit
#1
Hello all! I've been a lurker on here for some months now. I only wish I'd known about the Big3 sooner, I found out shortly after finishing my MBA at WGU. Of course, it makes it tempting to go for additional degrees now... but for the present I'm turning my daughters highschool homeschool into an accelerated high school / college hybrid with this info.

You guys have been immensely helpful to me in that, so I wanted to share some of that in something I just discovered last week. (I did search the forums ahead of time, and I didn't notice anyone posting this, but if they did I apologize.)

I wanted to let you guys know about a new source of credit. You've probably all been familiar with education-portal.com for years, then it went paid and a lot of people probably started to ignore it because there were free (or cheaper) study sources out there. I was familiar with them before from the homeschooling resources perspective.

Well, they just did a big change this month and rolled out a name change (now Study.com) and 19 new ACE backed credit offerings.

It's still subscription based, but it's unlimited access to all the courses with the monthly.

The new ACE credits are listed on the first section of this page - How to Earn College Credit from Our Courses - Study.com (scroll down until you see the first blue section that says ACE Recommended courses)

The parent company is Remillon, and that is how they are listed at ACE. Here's that link in case you want to see how they convert - ACE CREDIT | The National Guide to College Credit for Workforce Training

There are some good courses in the list, one surprise I found in there was that Science 101 : Intro to Natural Science converts to undergrad Physics credit according to the ACE listing -- which is a slightly harder course to find available for credit.

Anyway, hope this was a help, and thanks for having such a great community here Smile

I use it. It's 19.99 per month with my grandfather rate. It's great for my son who is 12 and my 15 year old brother. If it also now gives ace credit, that's something I want to take advantage of. I was around when they went paid but had it not been for education poral I would never have earned some of the 39 clep and dsst credit using this site. A lot of people frowned at the expense but I think it's worth it.
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

Looks like you got a great deal locked in now, it says on the site $50 and $100 a month are the two current plans. One thing I don't know is if one plan is required for the internal ACE credits or not. I was wondering if the $100 a month one was the required one because it says that you get certificates of completion with that plan. I hope not though, $50 a month would be much better, but since I haven't subscribed to it yet I'm not sure. Hopefully if someone tries it out they can clarify that aspect.

From free website like khanacademy to paid website with monthly subscription to offering ACE certified course credits

Wow that's some evolution.

Even their website went from EducationPortal.com to Study.com

FunFact: This is what Study.com use to offer before they were purchased by EducationPortal.com:
StudyCom

Well atleast charging a premium fee for courses is now somewhat justified. I subscribed months ago because I found much better content on Khanacademy and it was all for free. Subscribing now will cost me about $50 a month before it was $20.

To me this looks like a good deal for people doing psychology degrees. The only thing though is they have abnormal psychology listed as a lower level credit, but I believe its typically upper level. TESC's Abnormal Psych exam is upper level. I'd be curious how TESC would tranfer in these courses, re taking credits that ACE says are lower level even if offered as upper level at TESC?

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Anyone have any idea how much these courses cost? I tried contacting them, but it isn't clear how it works. Like do you get access to all these ACE-recommended courses if you pay the $100 membership fee? And is there an additional fee to take the proctored final exams?
