I am looking for all kinds of input here on TECEP or ECE tests or other options to fulfill BSBA requirements at TESC.
Based on everything I have read so far on the forum and on reviewing my Academic Evaluation I will need to take something other than DSST's to fulfill the following requirements.
Mgrl/Bus Communs (I plan to fulfill this with Straterline Business Communication)
Business Policy (So far as I know only the Business Policy TECEP fills this)
General Management Specialization (12 out of 18 credits can be filled with DSST exams, that leaves 6 credits to fill)
Anyone who has experience please tell me about how you filled those requirements and what the exams are like. I have only taken CLEP and DSST exams so far and I am anxious about taking paper tests that may require essays. Spelling is a big problem for me whenever I have to write an essay without the aid of a computer (and sometimes with) so I would prefer to stay away from exams with essays if at all possible.

Hi CMOS,
Now that TECEPs are $33/credit take advantage! The business policy tecep was great! I'm waiting for final score but it was an awesome exam. SL business communications has received excellent feedback as well.
If you plan to take money & banking and the management exams (HR, Org Beh, MIS), you are going to need either a marketing or accounting course for your GMS required section.
It is your preference but rumor has it that sales management and advertising are both easily doable. You could actually take both, one to fill GMS required and the other GMS electives.
Sales Management MAR-322-TE http://www.tesc.edu/tecep_desc/MAR-322.pdf
Advertising MAR-323-TE http://www.tesc.edu/tecep_desc/MAR-323.pdf
Both exams are 100 multiple-choice questions, passing grade 60/100, and time 2hrs. Check out the specific feedback section.
If you prefer open book, non proctored, I took intermediate accounting 1 through penn foster. I also took consumer behavior, at the time it had a proctored exam -- you designate a proctor, anyone who has at min an Associate’s degree. Penn Foster has quite a few good offerings that meet the GMS requirements.
Good luck, the BSBA is a very good program!

Thanks for the great advice bricabrac
What was your experience like in getting a proctor arranged and how much do you have to push TESC? Also what was the turn time from registering for the test to when you get the final results? I want to complete everything this year so should I register for the TECEPS right away?

Managerial Accountng at Str8rline transfers over as Cost Accounting at TESC, which could fill a requirement.

Let me give an example on tecep registering. If you want to take the exam on July 15th then register today, July 1, because you have to allow time for the exam to arrive at your proctor site. What happens when you register, it is for the semester of your testing date; which in this case would be the July semester ending Sep 24th. Very important, if you feel you are not ready on the 15th you can change your test date as many times as your need. You have until Sep 24 to take the exam. You would only need to contact your proctor to let them know you are not ready and tell them NOT to return the exam, you will be ready on whatever date. If you fail a tecep you have to wait 2-3 months to retake. Better safe than sorry.
Assigning a proctor is actually very easy; there is a section on the TECEP registration form for the proctor name and address. I use the Sr Librarian at my local library. You can use any authorized proctor site, libraries, colleges...etc. I have not had any issues with TESC on tecep exams or my regular midterm/final exams for that matter.
The turnaround on results seems to depend on the exam and timing. My multiple choice exam taken May 15, posted to my academic evaluation on May 26. For essay it’s going to take longer because they have to send the exam out to the mentor for grading. I've heard anywhere from 3-5 weeks. It probably has a lot to do with when your proctor returned the exam, M/C or essay, when TESC mailed the exam to mentor, and mentor availability.
Hope this helps.

Here is the link to the pdf forms page. Read it over so you will know all the information required when you register online. To register simply log in online student account, go into the registering for courses and you will see the course with TE code. When you click on it, the electronic form opens, type in your info and submit. I usually call a few days later to confirm it went through ok. You will receive a confirmation email prior to test date (think it was ~3 weeks).

$99 bucks!!!!! Wow!!!!!
TECEPs aren't all that bad they are just very slow to register for and take and get a grade. I have a great proctor who administers my CLEP and TECEP tests so for me it is a nice situation.
I would rather do a PennFoster or Straighterline or ALEKs course for something that I am a little uncomfortable with though because they are online and unproctored.

FYI if you are looking to take a TECEP and have access to your own proctor, you might want to go ahead and do it. TESC is migrating towards a 100% online (webcam) proctoring service, started last October.

bricabrac: Thanks again. More great information, now I am not as worried about taking a TECEP.
ryoder: I do plan to take at least one straterline so we shall see how much I like it.
dcan: I actually like the idea of an online proctor because than I would get my score right away, the only down side is I would have to do it at home instead of over my lunch break (my testing center is 5 minutes away from my office and home is 1hr away)
