What bachelors degrees from TESC do not have a capstone requirement and which exams do I need to take or should take to get my degree the fastest. Here is a list of classes I have taken or am currently taking. I know I still need a math credit but I'm not sure whats the minimum course or exam I can take for this. help would be very much appreciated!

In my signature, you will find a list of spreadsheets I built for various TESC degrees. You may want to start by plugging your courses into the various requirements. There is also a spreadsheet for TESC course equivalencies for the various exams.

As far as I know, the only degree TESC offers that allows one to test out of the Capstone is the Bachelor of Science of Business Administration. All of the Bachelor of Arts degrees require a Capstone.

You may also want to have a look at the Wiki. Sanantone has done a great job of putting together degree plans.

Based upon my research the degrees that offer the most courses that you can mix and match to test out of are Liberal Studies, Social Studies, Psychology and Business Administration. The first three require a capstone course at TESC and Business Administration does not.

College Algebra generally fills most college level core math requirements. However, specific requirements are sometimes dependent on degrees. For instance Business Adiministration degree requires additional Accounting, Finance and Statistics classes. Other courses in the BSBA that require some math are Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. A degree in Psychology also requires a statistics class.

As far as speed, I have used InstantCert for almost all of the exams I have tested out of and it has been an excellent resource along with the exam specific feedback section for IC members. There are a lot of resources for CLEP and DSST exams, which makes preparing for them a little easier. You can keep tapping the resources until you feel confident. TESC also has a lot of exams called TECEP's but I haven't taken any of these. Mostly because the majority do not have flashcards on InstantCert and in my opinion reading a 500 page text book is going to take me a lot longer than using IC flashcards. I study on average about 20-30 hours for a test on InstantCert, which usually I can do in one week. Of course I wouldn't rush your first few tests, take your time and make sure you feel prepared. After passing your first few tests you will have a pretty good idea of how much prep time you need.

Make sure you look at the link in the previous post with sanantone's degree plans. It outlines suggested courses for each degree option and you can see which degree would be the fastest.

You might as well take a Capstone (did I say that?), you have to learn to write someday, and if you already know how the Capstone doesn't hurt that much. Smile

Thanks everyone for all the help. I don't want to take the capstone because I need the degree as quickly as possible. I can already write pretty well and I feel like it will mostly be a waste of time and possibly prevent me from achieving my goal which is to have a degree by December. My main problem is not knowing what some of my courses will fall under or will be transferred as. Can anybody help me with that?

If you're adamant about not doing a capstone then you would work towards a BSBA from TESC. If that's the case you should submit your transcript and have it evaluated for a bsba degree. They are slow and take up to 20 days from when they get your transcript to evaluate it. Also, they also only graduate 4 times per year and you have to complete your degree requirements at least 2 months earlier. Thomas Edison State College: Graduation Information

It's taken me about 12 weeks total to complete a years worth of courses and that has required at least 30 hours of study time per week. I don't think I could go any faster if I tried. December might be an unrealistic goal.

Some of the specific TESC policy comments have changed, but the general information about categorizing coursework to create a degree plan is still helpful.

Ok thank you, going to check it out now. Also, in general, how long does a capstone course take to complete?

At TESC, 12 weeks. If you want to graduate by December, you'll have to have all work completed and apply for graduation 2-3 months earlier than that. Thomas Edison State College: Graduation Information
