  14-month DHSc
Posted by: sanantone - 05-26-2024, 03:06 PM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (2)

Jonathan Whatley made a comment about Faulkner University having an 18-month PhD in Health Sciences. I went to their website and saw that they also have a 14-month DHSc in Health Sciences. This is the fastest RA, non-clinical doctorate that I've seen. Hypothetically, one can complete a doctorate at Oklahoma State University in 12 months, but that is dependent upon how many transfer credits are accepted from one's master's degree and how many credits one enrolls in each semester. Okstate is on a traditional semester system whereas Faulkner has 5-week courses that are taken one at a time, so the program is structured to be completed in 14 months.

How Well Did UMPI's BA in Accounting Actually Teach You Accounting?
Posted by: AccountingForThis - 05-26-2024, 01:05 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (2)

Hello! I am strongly considering attending UMPI to earn my BA in Accounting with the goal of eventually becoming a CPA. Unfortunately, I have read some posts on this forum and others claiming that the accounting courses are not rigorous/up-to-date enough to sufficiently teach the material (at least to those of us without previous accounting experience).

For those of you who have completed this degree or are in the process of doing so, do you feel like the courses were sufficient? Do you feel like they prepared you to work in accounting? If you took the CPA exam (or any other accounting qualification exam) afterwards, do you feel like the courses gave you a decent foundation from which to review or did you end up basically having to learn everything from scratch?

UMPI would be the fastest and cheapest option in my situation, but if I have to spend considerably more time studying afterwards then I’m not sure it would be the best/most efficient…

SDC: Computer Science 105: Introduction to Operating Systems
Posted by: legenwait4itdary - 05-26-2024, 04:59 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, OnlineDegree.com, Sophia.Org Discussion - Replies (12)

Hello,

I am about to take this course (Computer Science 105: Introduction to Operating Systems) and I am wondering how time consuming and difficult it is. I am not worried about the quizzes as they have 3 attempts so I reckon I can get at lest 90 out of 100 towards my final grade. What worries me is the final. Has anyone taken the course recently and could share some info about it?

Thank you in advance for your help.

  Inspired by my kid sister
Posted by: BetterThisYearThanLast - 05-25-2024, 10:11 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (4)

Howdy Folks, My kid sister is on her way to her PhD this year. I couldnt be more proud. And inspired. So I'm taking another stab at school since I've got time and money to blow. Looking for some direction in my planning. Here goes the relevant:

Location: Philadelphia Age: 30

What kind of degree do you want?: I feel like “Business” is the easiest anywhere and I’m fine with that to just get it over with. If it’s a matter of personal choice, I love philosophy and world religions. The stack that makes the most sense to me (ambitiously) is Human Resources + Data Analytics but WGU seems costlier than I care to spend given my preferred timeline and cash flow (but I’d consider it since it would be the better achievement FOR ME)

Hudson County CC: 15
ENG 101, College Comp 1, 3, B+
ENG 112, Speech, 3, A
CSC 100, Intro to Comp & Computing, 3, B
ART 103, 2D Design, 3, A
ART 106, Drawing I, 3, C

Sophia: 31
Conflict Resolution
Intro to Business
Art History I
US History I
Macroeconomics
Microeconomics
Business Law
Workplace Communication
Environmental Science
Human Bio + Lab
Spanish I
Accounting

Study.com: 13
Personal Finance
Digital Marketing & Advertising
Intro to World Religions
Principles of Marketing
Intro to Sociology

ALEK:
College Algebra
Intro to Statistics

The Institute:
I took that free online ethics course but they said there is no Credly badge for this course.

Any certifications or military experience? I have Comptia Sec+ certification
***: Looking to get the BOG AAS to start the snowball (for motivation sake)
but I could totally live without it if I can secure a BS in the next 6-12 months.
My ultimate goal is a Masters in 12-18 months.

Budget: I have 5k cash to blow right this minute.
Commitments: Few. I work 3 days a week and have no kids.
Dedicated time to study: about 40 hours/week
Timeline: ASAP 12-18 months
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Nope

Posted by: Marcey97 - 05-25-2024, 04:25 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (1)

Hi, I am wrapping up my final 30 credits with UMPI starting in July. Will I need Microsoft Project on my computer? Will I need other project management software? Does UMPI do proctored tests that require a webcam for upper level courses that I will need to do to satisfy my upper-level electives. Thank you all for your help in advance.

Lightbulb Therapist here... questions about further education
Posted by: IHateEducation - 05-25-2024, 04:11 PM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (39)

Hey everyone,

To keep this as brief as possible, I am a seminary graduate with a dual degree, one in Theology and one in Counseling. I'm currently getting licensed in CA as a therapist and am about halfway through my 3000 required hours for full licensure.

Here's my dilemma: The hospital I work for pays for continued education. This has got me thinking about a doctoral degree that would 1) help with marketing myself with the "Dr." title in the future. 2) Will obviously give me extra education and 3) It'll be free or extremely close to that, so why not?

The problem is there are various options out there... too many to even begin to list. I can say that I don't care too much about the "traditional" route of going to an APA accredited school and getting a PhD or a PsyD in Clinical Psychology so I am looking for an alternative path that doesn't require a doctoral thesis and everything that comes with that (years of work and sleepless nights, an oral defense before a board, etc.) I'm looking for something quick and relatively painless. 5 years in Grad school + 2 residency programs at two major hospitals has already kicked my butt. I'm still recovering from that.

Since my budget is around $5,500 a year, what are my options? I've done a lot of research and I know schools like Kairos University and Mississippi College have a DPC program which looks tempting, but no one has heard of these degrees. I guess you can say I want my cake and I want to eat it too, but I wouldn't want to get a degree that would "limit" me where I go to apply to teaching positions 10 years from now and they look at me strange, wondering what a "Doctor of Professional Counseling" degree is from a small school in the middle of nowhere.

An alternative I have thought of is getting something like a DMin which is a practical degree for ministers where I can focus on "Biblical or Pastoral" Counseling. The limitation here I feel like is non-religious people might see this and get turned off by it, and not want to see me as their therapist.

Thoughts? I can expand further if needed.

Need guidance for BOG AAS with transfer to UMPI to carry on to MOAL
Posted by: Hackingat40 - 05-25-2024, 11:54 AM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (34)

Hello Everyone!

I just learned of college hacking and am excited. I have been a restaurant Training General Manager for many years and looking to change careers with getting a BAS and hopefully move on to UMPI MAOL degree. I have a few questions that I need help and guidance with if someone could help please.

1. Since I have 18 years as restaurant general manager who trains other company managers should I pay somewhere to do a portfolio evaluation to obtain some credits? (Running 24/7 business with upwards of 100 employees and 7 million dollars a year in pnl responsibility.)

2. These are the following CC credits and Ace credits I currently have.

My CC credits I hope transfer as I had a few F's from 2005 when I dropped classes online and the school never dropped them where years later I received a bill for all the classes in full and Fs on my transcript  Rolleyes I have already sent my CC transcript to Pierpont via Parchment.
