Pierpont BoG to UMPI (YourPace?) - Requesting Planning Advice
Posted by: cmm0889 - 05-04-2024, 10:51 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (5)

Hello! I am new to posting but not new to reading the forum. I found this forum in the fall of last year and because of this forum, I am graduating with an AAS from Pierpont this month (BoG, Business AoE). So thank you already for all of the help! That being said, I am at a point where I am a bit overwhelmed with trying to determine the most efficient next steps to earn my bachelors. I have completed the advised information below in hopes that guidance can be provided on the best next route (strongly considering UMPI - potentially YourPace?) so thank you in advance for any feedback and suggestions. From the YourPace catalog, the Bachelor of Liberal Studies – Management Minor, Bachelor of Liberal Studies – Project Management Minor, Business Administration – Management and Leadership Concentration and Business Administration – Project Management & Information Systems Concentration are most appealing to me but the goal is ultimately the fastest bachelors (truly any bachelors degree) that will consider the most of my existing credits. My desire to obtain my bachelors degree is for career progression and I would like to pursue my masters when complete. I imagine the Business Administration degrees will take longer than the Liberal Studies degrees based on my existing credits transferring in.

Your Location: Rather not say, United States
Your Age: Mid-30s
What kind of degree do you want?: Bachelors
Current Regional Accredited Credits:  61 (or potentially 69+ - see note below*)

Pierpont Community & Technical College - 40 credits (with transfers credits)
Computer Usage & Software Appl - 3 credits - A (4 at private college, 3 transferred to Pierpont)
Human Potential - 3 credits - A (4 at private college, 3 transferred to Pierpont)
Introduction to Business - 3 credits - B (4 at private college, 3 transferred to Pierpont)
Spreadsheet Applications - 3 credits - B (4 at private college, 3 transferred to Pierpont)
Advanced Composition - 3 credits - A (4 at private college, 3 transferred to Pierpont)
MTH: Business Mathematics - 3 credits - A (4 at private college, 3 transferred to Pierpont)
Business Law I - 3 credits - B (4 at private college, 3 transferred to Pierpont)
Business Law II - 3 credits - B (4 at private college, 3 transferred to Pierpont)
Written English I - 3 credits - B (4 at community college, 3 transferred to Pierpont)
Medical Terminology - 3 credits - B (community college, transferred to Pierpont)
Introduction to Psychology - 3 credits - D (community college, transferred to Pierpont)
Elementary Spanish I - 3 credits - B (4 at community college, 3 transferred to Pierpont and private college)
Elementary Spanish II - 3 credits - C (4 at community college, 3 transferred to Pierpont and private college)

Sophia Learning Credits
Conflict Resolution - 3 credits
Environmental Science - 3 credits
Human Biology - 3 credits
Intro Information Technology - 3 credits
Introduction to Web Development - 3 credits
Project Management - 3 credits
Visual Communications - 3 credits

Provider Total Credits: 21

Any certifications or military experience?
Project Management Professional (PMP)
Several Scrum Alliance Certifications: CSPO, CAL-E, CAL-T, CAL-O
Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt
Coursera: Project Management Principles & Practices Specialization from UoC, Irvine
Some other, smaller and less recognized certifications
No military experience

Budget: Need to go the cheapest route, not a lot of extra funds to work with
Commitments: Work full time, kids, and other obligations, all course work and studying will be evenings and weekends only
Dedicated time to study: Would do coursework after 9 PM to graduate from Pierpont, I expect it will be the same again
Timeline: Would like to finish as fast as possible, less than a year if feasible
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None at this time

I have more than 10 years of work experience, with 7 years in management, that I would like to leverage to get credit for prior work experience, if possible, and I believe UMPI does do that.

*Not sure if it’s worth noting but my transcripts actually have 8+ additional credits vs what Pierpont accepted as most of my courses that transferred were worth 4 credits but Pierpont transferred them in as 3 credits.

  Done with Liberal Arts Degree!
Posted by: TwinMom - 05-04-2024, 03:53 PM - Forum: EU - Excelsior University Discussion - Replies (10)

Hello all-

I've been on this forum for, literally, years and years. I homeschool my twin boys and this past Sunday was their last day at Excelsior!!

They started the Info Lit and Cornerstone beginning of January and the Capstone beginning of March.

I wanted to show my appreciation for all the advice given on this forum. I've attached the last transcript just prior to the Capstone so, hopefully, it can help others. We took some classes that don't count anymore as UL (TEEX Death Investigation) and a few others that didn't come in as we expected but, in the end, they transferred in all but the 7 required credits.

We are heading to Costa Rica next week for a graduation celebration!!

Online Masters in Computer Science + thesis?
Posted by: swellguy - 05-03-2024, 11:45 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (14)

Hi all,
I recently graduated from WGU with a BSCS (I previously made a post about this, thanks for the help) and now I want to get a masters in CS with the goal of getting into research and possibly pursuing a phd.
I ideally am looking for an online option that allows for completing a thesis.
I've seen reports of people being able to do a thesis in OMSCS but it seems very unlikely.
I've also heard that doing a thesis or even previous research experience isn't necessarily a requirement for being able to do a phd.

So ideally I am looking for an online, highly reputable university and relatively affordable(if possible) with a thesis option.

Thanks.

Wink Cheap accredited MLIS
Posted by: theea - 05-02-2024, 08:08 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (3)

I am looking for an affordable online MLIS program that's ALA-accredited? Join the club! Balancing full-time work, life expenses, and self-funded education is no joke.

I'm eyeing LSU as a potential option, but before I dive in, I need some specifics. Are there any scholarships specifically geared towards BIPOC students? Also, asynchronous learning is crucial for me due to my unpredictable schedule.

Of course, cost is a huge factor. And with my 4+ year library work experience, I can't commit to an internship. So, if anyone has insights or experiences with ALA-accredited online MLIS programs, especially at LSU or elsewhere, please share your wisdom! If you went please share your exp. SJSU is affordable but has MORE Classes and an internship. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Everyone,

Currently doing a touchstone for English. However, I am unsure of which format they require. Anyone have an idea whether I should be doing APA or MLA for my papers?

Thank you!!

Fast-food prices way up the past decade. Low-income consumers are starting to crack.
Posted by: LevelUP - 05-02-2024, 06:07 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (6)

Change in average menu prices for ten popular items over the past decade, per FinanceBuzz:

1. McDonald’s: +100%
2. Popeyes: +86%
3. Taco Bell: +81%
4. Chipotle: +75%
5. Jimmy John’s: +62%
6. Arby’s, Wendy’s, Burger King, Chick-fil-A: +55%
7. Panera Bread: +54%
8. Starbucks, Subway: +39%

A little over a decade ago, Subway had their $5 footlong deal. You could get McD's hash brows for 2 for $1.

Today, a 5lb bag of potatoes is $3. You can buy 10 frozen hash brown patties for $3.50.

A McD's Quarter-Pound w/cheese meal costs $12. I could make this myself in 5 minutes with Rally's fries for $3.

Fast-food prices surged faster than inflation the past decade.

TESU New Ed.D in Organizational Leadership, Culture, and Change
Posted by: maguirewj - 05-02-2024, 05:14 AM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (9)

Just had this pop up on my LinkedIn feed:

TESU EdD

The first cohort begins 01 July. I might have considered this program, since I had a good experience getting my BA at TESU, but alas I've already started the CBE EdD at South College.
