Will online degrees become worthless because of AI?
Posted by: blablablox - 04-16-2024, 05:34 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (12)

I'm a student a U of the people, and I've seen a heavy use of AI generated content  It's so blatant that it's honestly becoming both frightening and depressing.
If you look at the uopeople subreddit, you'll see that even instructors use AI to respond to discussion forums and even grade students. So basically, bots are doing assignments, and bots respond to them and grade them, in the end it feel as if it's the bot that is going to graduate.

Is this prevalent in other online universities or are we just the worse of the bunch? will online degrees become worthless? is there no solution for that?

Can sophia credit transfer to two different schools?
Posted by: GoBroncos95 - 04-16-2024, 05:14 PM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (11)

Just a curious thought, Could I transfer my sophia credits to two different schools?

For example if I transfer to one school, but didnt like it and wanted to go to another with the same sophia credit, how would that work?

or if I wanted to use the same sophia credit for two different degree's.

North Korean Defector Warns about Socialism in the U.S. and Describes Mistreatment
Posted by: LevelUP - 04-16-2024, 02:50 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (10)

North Korean Defector Warns about Socialism in the U.S. and Describes Mistreatment of North Korean Defectors in South Korea and China.

Quotes:
"South Korea is so racist, they won't let a non-South Korean get a job as a waitress."

"Women are sold, then are rapped in China and usually die out within 6 months"

Now, don't get me wrong, many of these countries are great places to visit as a tourist, etc., but beneath the surface lie deep levels of institutional racism that hinder anyone who isn't exactly South Korean from securing a job there, except for a few roles such as teaching ESL.

Funny how there are no Twitter bios saying "end racism in South Korea" or "end slavery in China." Hmm.

SNHU BS Data Analytics course plan, advice?

What kind of degree do you want?: Data Analytics / Mathematics
Current Regional Accredited Credits:

Daytona State College: 106

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:

Provider Total Credits: #
Class Name, Credits, Grade

Any certifications or military experience? No

Update: I'm looking to follow the degree plan for Data Analytics at SNHU, posted here https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/SN..._Analytics
SNHU have accepted 57 credits from my Daytona State College AA degree. I would be completing/transferring additional 24 credits through Google Data Analytics and Google IT Support Professional Certificate courses on Coursera, as well as 9 credits via additional courses through Study.com and Sophia. I would take the remaining 30 credits at SNHU to satisfy the residency requirement. See attached course plan and credit transfer audit.
.xlsx   SNHU Course plan.xlsx (Size: 7.19 KB / Downloads: 23)
.pdf   Transfer audit.pdf (Size: 34.75 KB / Downloads: 26)

To be perfectly honest, this looks too good to be true, so I'm looking for some confirmation that this is a viable plan. I appreciate any advice you can share.

Alternatively, I would be interested in the Bachelor's in Mathematics degree if it's a better fit with my DSC coursework.

Budget: I have a max of $10K saved up
Commitments: I currently work full time and can work on my studies part time or in the evenings/weekends.
Dedicated time to study: I can study 25-30 hours a week.
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal. I would like to finish within 1-1.5 years (12-18 months)
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None. Paying out of pocket.

  Excelsior Transfer Credits, limit?
Posted by: Stoffelhoff89 - 04-16-2024, 02:22 PM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (4)

Hey everyone!

New to the forum but would love any input on my question. I made a spreadsheet to track my progress in gaining college credit, and wanted to know if anyone knows what Excelsior University/College maximum credits transferable is? Last I checked on their website was 90, but elsewhere its 113. Somebody mentioned in an older thread that it was 90, plus 30 upper level.

It gets a bit confusing but in the meantime, can anyone enlighten me? Feedback would be greatly appreciated!

P.s, if anyone wants to make use of the spreadsheet attached then feel free! It isn't the best but it works for me, lol Tongue

  Law School Admission Council GPA

Thanks for the informative thread.  LSAC requires transcripts to be sent from both the degree granting college i.e. Excelsior and the non traditional course providers such as sophia, davar, etc.  If the Excelsior transcript records the courses from the providers as P/F and the provider transcript records letter grades along with gpa, how will it be recorded LSAC?  Will they include these courses when calculating gpa or not?

Encouragement for those on the fence
Posted by: Jocon - 04-16-2024, 01:38 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (7)

Hello all, I am posting to share my experience with UMPI to assist those that may be still on the fence or in their research phase.

I entered into UMPI's Program in the second term session of the Fall 2023.  I was not working at the time and was able to devote nearly my entire awake time into classes.

After finding this site, doing my own research, and some youtube videos, I started my journey in Sept of 2023 by signing up for Sophia.

Through Sophia I managed to bring in 60 credits.

I had completed Composition 1 and 2  (English 1 and 2) years prior when I went to Paramedic School which was accepted along with those Paramedic Classes and Clinicals coming in as a electives.

I had to drop two of the classes I signed up for right after the start of the fifth week (with in 48 hours of adding them) as I became ill with the dreaded 'rona.  But I was able to complete 14 of the 16 classes that I had attempted.

I felt that the Intro to Criminal Justice instructor was very vague on what  he wanted to see in the essays, but overall an informative class.

I STRONGLY recommend ANY AND ALL Classes taught by Dr John Zaborney (DR Z) .   Hot only are his classes put together well, and easy to follow, you can supplement your information with 'Crash Course' Videos that backup and reinforce his materials.
I was a fan of the idea of Films of the Cold War, but was not thrilled with its execution as most of the video links were inaccessible.  (Not taught by Dr Z this go around)

After reviewing the requirements and the classes I had completed I emailed my advisor and was placed on the track to get a Degree with a Dual Concentration, Poly Sci and History concentrations.
Spring 2024 term one I completed the remaining requirements to fulfill the double  concentration requirements, which was 8 more classes.

I had some issues with Sophia and the Spanish classes and took my chances with UMPI, and I got to say Dr Elizabeth Estela Reyes-Fournier Spanish classes through UMPI were in my opinion easier and more forgiving however taking the miniature quizzes and having to wait up to 48 hours to get a grade before proceeding can be a bit blah but overall I enjoyed the experience.  I was able to schedule Zoom's when I needed additional assistance and i felt she was always pleasant and helpful.

Now You are prolly thinking - "Well if he can do it ..."  And you are probably right, but  just keep in mind for this course load and amount of writing you will need to do is honestly 40-50 hours a week.  I had allot of pre-UMPI Knowledge of most of these subjects as I am a lover of History Documentaries and what i call the University of Youtube education ( lol) .

If you nose down and grind it out you can get a section / milestone done pretty quickly if you understand the material upon first reading. You do not 'need' anything outside the course work that is provided however I always tried to supplement my knowledge with youtube or other documentaries when able to find something relevant to the topic of the class.

I am awaiting conferment, but can happily announce that as soon as I finished the last class with UMPI I immediately  began applying to master's programs.  I was offered a position within three programs.

This fall I will be attending East Tennessee State University, Master of Arts, Appalachian Studies (Falls under anthropology/history) With a Graduate Assistantship (Tuition paid, and monthly stipend (No its not alot but it will ensure I don't have to eat Ramen unless I want to))

My original goal was to find and attend a law school after UMPI but after further research and conversations with my State Bar, I found that It would be near impossible at this time for me to obtain a licence to practice in my State if I did not attend an instate school (Can transfer out of state licence into this state after practicing for 7 years), Thus I am going down my second path.

If you have any questions please ask and I or some one else on the forum will do our best to answer what we can or at least point you in the right general direction to find the answers.

Completed:  Roane State Community College - Paramedic / A.A.S. Allied Health
Completed: UMPI BofA History and Political Science - Double Concentration
In Progress: ETSU Master's of Art in Appalachian Studies
Future thoughts: really looking hard at the History and Anthropology programs in the UK, University of Birmingham has an attractive program and amenities.

What classes do I need to do next?
Posted by: gamebradie - 04-15-2024, 07:34 PM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (17)

I'm pursuing an A.A.S. BOG degree, and I'm having some issues. Nancy says she can't review any of my transcripts from CC's. Both CC's have the necessary accreditations, and I've never had issues transferring credits to other colleges. She thinks the transcripts were sent directly from me which is false. I logged into my student accounts, and requested the transcripts there. I've sent them through Parchment and NCH but they won't accept them. I'll just save them for whichever University I transfer to.  I'm convinced that I'll have to get all the credits from Sophia and other ACE credit sites. Here's the credits that I have as of today.

Current Regional Accredited Credits: Yes, I've attended 2 CC's and I'll list each class below:
Academic Success Seminar
English Comp 1
Music Appreciation
Fund of Speech Communication
Art Appreciation
U.S. History 1 and 2
U.S. Government
Intro to Computing
Beginning Spanish
Macroeconomics
Intro to Physical Science Fitness/Wellness A. It's a 1 credit class every student in Texas CC's must take.
Intro to Philosophy, I'm currently taking this class.

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: I have credits from Study and SL, which I will list below.
Study
English Comp 2
Information Literacy

SL
Cultural Anthropology
Intro to Religion
U.S. History 1 and 2
American Government
Intro to Environmental Science

Sophia
Visual Communications
Intro to Web Development
Intro to Nutrition
Intro to I.T.
Intro to Ethnics
Developing Effective Teams
College Algebra

Here are the classes that are currently on my Pierpont transcript.
Written English II (English Comp 2)- accepted on Communications
Nutrition
Cultural Anthropology
Information Literacy
Intro Information Technology
Intro to Environmental Science
Introduction to Religion
Introduction to Web Development
Visual Communications
United States History I
United States History II- accepted on Social Sciences
College Algebra- accepted on Math and Science

Everything else is listed as electives.
