Advice needed for prospective law student
Posted by: Law - 10-20-2025, 11:01 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (12)

Your Location: Canada
Your Age: 33
What kind of degree do I want?: A bachelor's degree to satisfy law school requirements
Current Regional Accredited Credits: None that I'm aware of
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: Half of my psychology degree has been completed from an attempt at university ages ago. Due to personal reasons/health issues my cGPA is around 1.8 and I dropped out
Any certifications or military experience?: None
Budget: ~7k USD
Commitments: Full time job
Dedicated time to study: Around 3 hours daily, more on the weekends, 20-30 hours each week
Timeline: 4 months or earlier if possible
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: My work won't pay for my degree unfortunately

Hello everyone. I've been reading about law school admissions and potentially would like to apply in the near future. The admissions require an LSAT score and a GPA of 3.0 minimum. I have read that most law schools take your first bachelor's degree into account for the GPA requirement and doing another bachelor's doesn't rectify the issue as it's the first 120 credits you've completed.
If I were to get a BLS or BABA from UMPI then try to complete my unfinished paychology degree down the line, as it's been a nagging reminder that I never finished university.
Would that be a feasible option? UMPI would be cost effective and quick. I don't want a lot of pressure on my LSAT performance because that's what I've read people with a low GPA do. Would this offset the GPA requirements? Or would my university courses be factored in their calculation as they were the "first" 60 credits I completed? I would go for a degree unrelated to psychology at UMPI so they're not transferred in/minimal transfer which gives me a chance to improve my GPA with UMPI.
Is there another way to do this without having more of the weightage rely on the LSAT? I don't have a specific law school in mind.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area.

Study.com vs. Sophia — recent updates and credit transfer experience
Posted by: portals - 10-20-2025, 10:48 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (5)

I've used Study.com off and on for a few years to earn transfer credit, and they've made some changes that might be interesting, especially for those comparing Study.com and Sophia. Here's what's changed on Study.com:

•$95/month plan: A lower-cost option. You can take two courses at a time and finish as many as you're able each month.
•Open-book, open-note finals: No more proctoring, which makes finals easier to manage.
•Faster grading: Assignments and transcripts are usually turned around in about two days.
•Mobile app (College Saver): Lets you do lessons and quizzes on your phone — helpful if you're studying on the go. It's tied to your Study.com account, so you don't pay anything extra for it.

There's a good range of courses, so it's pretty easy to stick with one provider while earning credit.

What do others think about the changes?

  downdetector for myEdison Experience?
Posted by: pluggingalong - 10-20-2025, 03:34 AM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (5)

Is there some way to tell if the "myEdison Experience" is down on TESU's side?  I can't log in to it, I get an "Internal Server Error". I assume it is on their side. I don't think there is any scheduled maintenance. It seems to be down a lot. Its 1:30am PST on 10/20.  4:30am EST.

UTPB MA Mathematics, Pure or Educational, Thesis or Non-Thesis, $12K
Posted by: Jonathan Whatley - 10-19-2025, 05:04 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - No Replies

The University of Texas Permian Basin lists as “coming soon” an online MA in Mathematics in a choice of Pure Mathematics track or Mathematics Education track. Both tracks offer a thesis or non-thesis option. The non-thesis option entails a comprehensive exam with a retake available.

Total tuition is $11,729.70 for the 30-credit program. “Additional fees may be added.” UTPB Online extends in-state tuition to all.

Admission requirements are unusually flexible. There’s no stipulation about bachelor’s major, amount of math coursework, or list of several math courses to have taken. You will need at least one of these or its equivalent with a B or better: Math 4315 Algebraic Structures or Math 4360 Intermediate Analysis (that code is also listed as Theory of Real Analysis). You will have needed the prior math knowledge to succeed in that course. GPA in the last 60 hours of 3.0 qualifies for regular admission, of 2.75 may be considered for conditional admission. Further details on admission requirements at the links.

  ASU Online Part Time JD
Posted by: SpartacusPM - 10-19-2025, 03:07 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (2)

Arizona State University (ASU) will be launching a part time and online ABA approved Juris Doctorate program. Based on cost it seems to be aligned with or a bit cheaper per year than alternative options since at South Texas College of Law, Southwestern, etc.

Howdy

Quick question.  I have already earned my BLS with a marketing minor but just did a what if scenario and realized I have already completed the requirements for my BAdmin major.  Do I have to enroll to be able to get it or can I just request it as I have completed all of the requirements.

Any help is greatly appreciated Smile

University of Louisville - Digital Transformation Center (DTC)
Posted by: Mint Berry Crunch - 10-18-2025, 08:31 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

I check out the ACE National Guide time-to-time and I stumbled upon The University of Louisville Digital Transformation Center (DTC) page:

"housed within the Office of Research and Innovation, is advancing digital equity and workforce readiness by expanding access to technology, digital literacy, and industry-recognized credentials. In partnership with Microsoft, Adobe, IBM, Google, and LinkedIn Learning, the DTC provides innovative training programs in areas such as IT certification, digital literacy, and, most notably, cybersecurity.

The Cybersecurity Workforce Program stands as a flagship initiative, offering flexible, modular learning pathways that accommodate learners at every stage—from those new to the field to seasoned professionals seeking advanced specialization. The program provides several options for professional development, including shorter bundles of 3–6 modules, intermediate tracks of up to 8 modules, or the full program of 23 modules. To ensure real-world application, the program incorporates industry-specific use cases in healthcare and logistics, along with specialized learning modules in areas such as artificial intelligence, forensics, and cryptography. This approach prepares learners for both immediate entry-level employment and long-term career growth through professional development in one of the nation’s most critical and fast-growing sectors".

From what I see, there are a lot of credits to be gained from this.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Seems like this is only recent with the start dates indicating ACE recommendation as of May 1st:

I also tried looking for what it costs, but I didn't find any information on it. Guess I'll have to apply for more information and see what the associate costs are.

UMPI Business, M.S. - PM Concentration

I searched for this degree program on the Yourpace page, but couldn't find any details about this degree. I did find the below page which appears to be for their on-campus program, but has the same name as the one listed on the Yourpace graduate application. I'm guessing it's the same thing, but it's not clear to me. Can anyone confirm this?

Like seriously, University of New Jersey - Trenton is right there.  So is Trenton University, Trenton State, Edison University, Edison State University (just drop the Thomas), Edison institute of Technology, New Jersey State, New Jersey A&M.

Thomas Edison State University just sounds so much less legitimate then it is, but I guess at least its not Rutgers Global.
