Eastern University Self-Paced online Degrees
Posted by: natshar - 03-02-2024, 02:58 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Thoughts on this: https://www.eastern.edu/lifeflex

And Eastern allows 75% of credit to be transferred. They are generous and do accept, CLEP, DSST. (idk about ACE and NCCRS)

Might be worth looking into for some people.

75% transferred in for bachelors (32 credits at Eastern)

9 grad credits accepted for transfer

Grad Degrees with generous credit transfer

Are there any graduate programs that allow for a generous amount of credit transfer? I know Capitol Technology University will do up to 75% for a doctorate, but I have not seen many others out there that do more than about a quarter of total credits.

  Sophia Classes for BA Psych?
Posted by: CollegeBraveB - 03-01-2024, 03:00 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (6)

Hey!  I would like to enroll in UMPI for the Your Pace BA Psych program!
Does anyone know what Gen Ed Classes would be needed, also how much of the degree program can be transferred in from Sophia Learning?
Also for those of you in the program already ( I know it is fairly new), how are you enjoying it?

Thank you all!

Free ways(e.g. TECEP)to register at TESU? Also say thank you to@bjcheung77@LevelUp
Posted by: Felisa - 03-01-2024, 10:43 AM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (2)

Are there some free ways for me to register?
(I registered for a free TECEP last year. But I'm not sure it is valid now.)

I've finished my 2023 DEC term and this is the only term left so that I will graduate from TESU with my BACS degree in June this year.
I want to apply for a traditional master's program in Europe(Belgium or Netherland),  I want to make my transcript look nicer,  so I want to transfer some ACE credits to TESU,  is there some cheap or free way for me to transfer?

Thanks to some kind-hearted guys on this forum, you gave me so much valuable advice last year.
Sadly I could just remember @bjcheung77 @LevelUP, thank you again!!!  Also thanks for other guys' advice.

Budget: I will be using Financial Aid but would prefer a low cost program.
Commitments: I currently work full time and can work on my studies part time in the evenings/weekends.
Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as is needed during the night or weekends as long as my schedule is free. I estimate at least 3 hours every week night and on the weekends, maybe 16 hours, total would be roughly 15+16=31 hours or slightly more.
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal.  I would like to finish within 6 mos. or less if possible or by the end of 2024.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: N/A

Ultimately, I am trying to obtain a bachelors degree as soon as possible so that I may explore obtaining a masters in Cybersecurity or a Law Degree.

I recently applied to WGU and they only wanted to give me credit for 29hours I declined to move forward as I am not willing to lose 60+ credit hours. Thomas Edison and/or SNHU seems most ideal., Can someone help me figure out if it would be feasible to obtain a Bachelors in Business within 6months at Thomas Edison or SNHU or another program within 6months? Im willing to take additional courses via other avenues prior to enrolling if it would help me test out and save money. I am a fast learner and amazing test taker!

Budget: 10k out of pocket, willing to take on student loans.  I'd like to go the cheapest route possible, but will consider spending more for easy and fast!

Commitments: Family & pets. I currently work full time and can work on my studies part time or in the evenings/weekends. I can mostly set my own schedule at work.

Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as is needed during the night or weekends as long as my schedule is free. I estimate at least 2 hours every week night and on the weekends, maybe 3-6 hours, total would be roughly 10+6=16 hours or slightly more.

Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the Bachelors degree as fast as possible would be ideal.  The sooner I finish my BA/S the sooner I can start my masters. For licensure in Oregon you must go to schools that meet all the requirements. The program must also be a minimum of 3 years.

Tuition assistance/reimbursement: nothing in stone

I have been looking at the new WGU BS Psychology program because of the cost and the fact that it is an exam based school. I am a good test taker as I retain information, especially recent information, very well. For my masters I was very much considering going to an online program offered by George Fox University based out of Portland OR. Their masters program satisfies all requirements for both the LMFT and LPC which is fantastic. They should also be able to help me via the program with placement for internship hours that are required by OR as part of the program and will allow me to do extra hours as to not have to pay a supervisor as much for the remainder of additional hours. I would like to avoid my transcripts looking like I did a ton of stuff from random sites and transferred it in when I submit for acceptance to the masters program.

I also would want to address my ability to write papers and do math at a university level so that when I went into the masters program I was not having extensive difficulty writing well formed papers. Many of my credits are from when I was 18-22 so that information has not been used in a while as none of it applies to any of my work since besides some math as needed.

Thank you for any advice! I am just starting to really dig into what my plan is with this but want to get started soon.

  Questions about course selection
Posted by: beikaRAY - 02-29-2024, 07:02 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (2)

I received the credit transfer report and degree progress report attached. 139 credits have been accepted and the degree progress report shows that 14 courses are "not satisfied" for me to complete the degree.
Is that means I should take all these 14 courses?
or do I just need to choose some of these courses and get 30 credits to fulfill the requirements for complete the degree?

Thanks in advance to those who answered my questions Big Grin

UC Berkeley Extension courses can transfer
Posted by: ItsNeverTheLionsYear - 02-29-2024, 03:43 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (2)

There are a bunch of posts from around a decade ago on this forum saying that UC Berkeley Extension courses will not transfer to TESU. This is no longer the case, at least for some courses.

I just transferred over their Introduction to C course for 2 credits: https://extension.berkeley.edu/search/pu...seId=40911

TESU accepted it without any questions. I think they accepted it because it's marked for 2 "semester units" and not for CEUs. I'm sure the CEU courses would still fail to transfer since TESU has never accepted those.

Berkeley X courses still have massive downsides, in that they're expensive, not title IV eligible (can't apply FAFSA or the GI bill to them) and only provide 2 credits for most courses, but it might help somebody in a pinch.

Big Grin Degree Planning Advice - Pierpont to UMPI or WGU
Posted by: ElBert - 02-29-2024, 11:39 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (11)

Hi Guys, First time here. I am happy to have found this forum please I was getting lost in the sauce.

So my goal is to get my degree done as quick as possible, currently I am enrolled in WGU Business Management  but I really dislike it and plan to leave after this term and go else where. I was interested in the BOG and possibly moving to UMPI and doing Liberal arts with minor in history or polysci.. Can someone look at my current completed credits and provide me some guidance.

1. Should I do a few more courses in WGU - by the way the mentor doesn't really let me pick she picks them for me and when I say something she pushes back. hence why I haven't done so many Gen Eds.... I almost feel its to keep me stuck at WGU

2. I wish I had known about shopia and can I leverage that in the transition.

3. What am I missing and what should I focus on?
4. What classes should I take @ Sophia if I go that route.

  Disappointed with Study.com (Discrete Mathematics)
Posted by: legenwait4itdary - 02-29-2024, 08:36 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (6)

I have just completed Discrete Mathematics with Study.com and to say I am disappointed would be an understatement. The lessons were terrible. Explanations were poor. In many cases, I had to look elsewhere for explanations.

Some of the questions (quizzes) were worded in a very strange way. Some of the final exam questions were worded oddly too. The notation was confusing too. They cannot even get the matrices to show properly Sad

But my biggest disappointment were the lessons. Really, really poorly done. I was lucky as I have done a lot of maths in the past so I was familiar with the content to some extend.

Not being able to use notes on the final makes little sense, imo. I mean it should not be about how much you can memorize but how you can apply this knowledge.

I got 81% on the final so I should be fine (I got two connection errors so, let's see if I need to do it again - the window did not close, though, and I was told to refresh which I did and was promptly reconnected).

Anyways, I am not looking forward to the rest courses and I have to do a few Sad

(The courses I took with SL (a few years ago and one recently) were much better.)
