DSST Physical Geology and Human/Cultural Geography
Posted by: june - 11-18-2006, 08:59 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (7)

I am in need of very user friendly DSST Study Guides for Physical Geology and Human/Cultural Geography. I did locate these on Amazon, the author is Jack Rudman. Has anyone ever used these? Would they be good for someone who doesn't know very much about either subject. Also, does anyone have anyother ideas for study guide for these subjects.

  Business Policy
Posted by: ChristaKB - 11-17-2006, 07:28 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (14)

Ok, I took the TECEP Business Policy test! As described in the TECEP literature, there were 30 mc questions and some essay questions. The exam as such was not very hard, I would say Dantes level, but an aweful lot of writing was required.

If you take this exam, make sure to study:

Basics of strategic management
Porter's strategies
Diversification
Product life cycle
BCG Growth Matrix
International Stategy
GE Matrix

I think basically this website will cover most of it http://www.quickmba.com/strategy/, however I also studied the recommended book (Strategic Management by Wheelen) by looking up the website for the book at Prentice Hall and answering all the questions on each chapter. Saved my notes and studied them. Only last week did I come across the MBA reference which I think is still the best.

My guess, you could pass by seriously studying the MBA website and basics on the Strategic Management book. But then again: I don't know if I passed :o

I'll let you know in 6 months when I get the anwers back hilarious , let the wait begin Wink

  Penn Foster...alittle confused
Posted by: RBOWMAN - 11-17-2006, 09:18 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (28)

I called Penn Foster today to try to arrange for an individual math course as suggested by several people here on instantcert, but they said I cannot register to take just one math class.."huh", I said and the guy hung up. So, Iam wondering was I suffering from bad breath and that turned the guy off, or they have too many students and don't need anymore, or did I go about this process all wrong??? Insight please and thank you!!

  Principles of Financial Accounting DSST?
Posted by: BlackhawkGuy - 11-17-2006, 08:18 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

My education center offers the Principles of Financial Accounting DSST, but I see no study materials on this website. My library has the "Official DSST Guide", you know the one with the reddish cover, for the course, but if it's anything like the Technical Writing one, it's nothing more than a waste a trees and space. Anyone taken it or know where I can find good study materials for it? Thanks

  Hello all!

1) Is there a way to find out test results or track your CLEPs and DSSTs online? I'm in the Army and stationed in Korea and results take 4-6 weeks. For all CLEP and some DANTES that are given CBT (Compter Based Testing) you receive your score as soon as you're finsihed; do you have a testing center on base?

2) By the look of it, IC looks like enough to receive a passing grade on all CLEP and DSST subjects, but of course, supplemental info is often recommended. Is that an accurate statement? Where could I find addt'l study guides, free of course? Yes - read my signature line below.

Hey BlackHawk - I inadvertantly "edited" your original post and added my comments and suggestions; sorry if I deleted anything pertinent!

  Excelsior changed thier mind....
Posted by: MagicATC - 11-16-2006, 04:35 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

Hi all,
I just want to vent for a sec. I had all my math requirements finished with my Army MOS, Int Algebra, and CLEP College Math. I even took CLEP College Algebra later just to take it. I got a C on College Algebra CLEP and Excelsior said I didn't need that because it duplicated my other math credits. I was happy with that because the C took down my GPA. Now,(6 months later) they just updated my transcript again and they traded out my College Math CLEP for the College Algebra CLEP! They are now saying that College Math CLEP duplicated my Army Credit? How can they do this when my earlier transcript counted it? Anyway, I already talked to them and they said if I wanted Algebra not to count I would have to take 3 more credits. This "C" brings down my GPA .4 points! Thanks for the vent.

  CLEP reporting times
Posted by: Auto - 11-13-2006, 11:13 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

Hello everyone

I took my first CLEP test about over a month ago and directed that my results be sent to my university. Any idea or experiences on how long Thompson/Prometric usually takes to ship these things out? My university is quite good at posting them within days of receipt.

Thanks much.

MS in social work options with a BA from Exceksior
Posted by: dgreenes - 11-13-2006, 11:02 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

Hi to all out there! I am currently working on a BA in liberal arts with a major in phsycology through Excelsior College. And I wanted to know... is there a/o out there who went this route before and would have some helpful tips for me in pursuing my masters in social work? And if not, would anyone know what my options for that are? For example, would colleges in NJ, and if so which ones, accept me with my undergrad from Excelsior (and not through actually sitting in class)? Do I have a chance of getting into an accelerated program if I have eight prior years of experience in teaching? I hope to complete my BA in June of 2007 and to begin my masters in Sep. of 07. I am looking for direction in going about it. Any advice, suggesstions or experience would be tremendously appreciated. Diane
