UMPI---Financial aid---??? |

Hi,
I just talked to a friend of mine.
He wants to get a BA.
I told him about UMPI.
He qualifies for a full Pell grant,
and full federal financial aid.
He is a dedicated hard worker!
So,
He wants to enroll at UMPI {your pace}
He wants to take
12 credits for the fall session,
and
12 credits for the spring session.
My question is,
will these credits give him access to HIS full Pell grant and FA???
The way he had it figured,
he should have $4k+ per semester left over,
for living expenses,
after paying tuition, etc
I looked at all his paperwork and college plans,
and it seems like this should work out as planned.
I was hoping someone here could let me know their opinion on this,
and any possible guidance????
THANX
PS---He is going to use his spare time and college downtime,
to get Sophia,
Study, and Modern States credits.
PSS---If this concept is correct,
I thought it was clever to have his college paid for,
and collect $2k per month for each 8 week term!!

UCA PhD Found Another WGU Grad! |

I am in my 4th semester at UCA for the PhD in Change Leadership for Equity and Diversity and I found someone else who went to WGU! They got a MBA.
As I mentioned previously, a lot of the other students are either local to Arkansas or are UCA staff. At the beginning of most classes, when we meet via Zoom everyone introduces themselves and this is when I heard of the other person who also went to WGU.
This is exciting for two reasons, I know some people (obviously not me) have reservations about WGU, but people from WGU do go on to many other schools. Also, that this UCA program is very special and local, considering how many people from the region make up the program.

Greetings Everyone,
Thanks to all of you for this wonderful forum. I misplaced my original high school transcripts, so I completed a diploma from Excel High, Florida, in 2008.
Annual Sophia membership just expired. Currently studying German at Modernstates.
1 RA credit for Pierpoint. Clackamas LIB 101 has a backlog.
ASU. waiting for my Asurite ID.
Can I try TECEP's for RA credits?
I am kind of lost.

Prerequisite and credit transfer question |

Hello all,
I'm in the process of satisfying general education requirements at a community college where I plan to take an AAS degree program. So far I have satisfied just about every GenEd requirement for the program except for two. The two remaining classes are Accounting I and Business Math.
Here's the situation, to be able to enroll in those classes, I needed to pass an introductory algebra course, which I ultimately failed (the instructor was lousy and didn't seem interested in helping people understand the material). I'm also working towards an online, self-paced bachelor's degree at an out of state, regionally accredited university. I will be taking business math and accounting at that school instead of the community college.
Once I complete those credits, I plan to transfer them to the community college. The community college said they will accept those credits as long as they're not ACE credits. Part of the reason I'm taking the remaining classes at the other school is to a) work towards the bachelor's degree and b) bypass the community college's introductory algebra prerequisite. Are there any problems I could run into when it's time for me to submit my application for the AAS program at the community college? I will have the business math and accounting credits transferred in long before the application deadline in November, however, I wonder if the F in introductory algebra will come back to haunt me? My only concern is them making me retake the algebra course before letting me move forward. In my mind, they shouldn't care about the failed algebra class if I complete the two other classes elsewhere. What's everyone's take on this?
Just for clarification, the introductory algebra course is considered "developmental", meaning that it won't affect my GPA one way or another.

“How Predatory Master’s Programs Get Away With It” |

Marc Novicoff (in Washington Monthly) Wrote:Overwhelmed—or perhaps underwhelmed—prospective students often resort to asking for information from schools directly.
And that’s when the salespeople intervene.
“I signed up as someone who was interested and wanted more information about the program,” Sofia—who requested that we use only her first name—told me of her experience in the summer of 2019. “And the next day I got a recruitment call.”
According to Sofia, her recruitment agent was relentless, calling her almost daily and remembering every detail he heard. “He name-dropped some of my professors,” she said. “He remembered my pets’ names.”
She expressed to him that the program [based on context in the article, apparently the online Master of Arts in Counseling from Northwestern University] seemed too expensive, with a tuition (not including housing or any other costs) of between $133,824 and $190,440, depending on the track. But the recruitment agent countered, selling her on the “incredible power of being able to say that you went to Northwestern.”
This “incredible power,” as Sofia recalls him saying, is not recognized by the market. Northwestern’s median earnings five years after graduation, $56,897, are markedly lower than the median master’s program in this category: $63,675.
That recruitment agent worked for 2U, a private, for-profit online education program management company which also runs the online infrastructure that Northwestern’s master’s program uses—software that, one alum told me, she felt was constantly having “technological glitches” and felt “clunky and old.” Though 2U’s exact compensation from Northwestern isn’t publicly disclosed, the company’s standard deals with universities in 2019 involved keeping 60 percent or more of tuition revenues. (More recently, 2U has reduced its standard revenue-sharing fee for degree programs to 35 percent.)
The article contrasts high-tuition, low-ROI master's programs like Northwestern's MA in Counseling, which it characterizes as "predatory," with lower-cost programs in similar fields such as those from Aurora University.
Posting to the General forum because the contentious issues here are also seen in undergraduate and vocational programs.

UMPI BABA PM&IS Degree Plan,Urgent Help Needed! |

Hi everyone,
I'm seeking advice regarding the UMPI BABA PM&IS Degree Plan. Previously, I had completed all the ASU, Sophia, Coursera, and TEEX credits following the Pierpont to UMPI Degree Plan, with the intention of obtaining an UMPI BAS M&IS degree. However, due to unforeseen circumstances where Pierpont no longer accepts Chinese students, I have had to switch to the UMPI BABA PM&IS Degree Plan.
I have a couple of questions:
- What additional credits do I need to complete to fulfill all the ACE credit requirements for the UMPI BABA PM&IS Degree Plan?
- What specific courses should I choose at UMPI?
Please note that English is not my first language, so please feel free to point out any misunderstandings in my expression. Also, as this is my first time using this forum, please let me know if there's anything wrong with my posting format.
I would greatly appreciate any advice or guidance from experienced friends. Thank you!
