Seeking Academic Writing Resources for UMPI BAS Degree
Posted by: garveymoshe - 09-11-2024, 02:52 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (2)

Hello everyone,
I’m nearing the completion of my Pierpont degree and planning to transition to the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) for their Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) Degree Plan. Before applying, I want to refresh my academic writing skills.
Could anyone recommend resources or materials on academic writing? Does UMPI have its own book on the subject? I know that Thomas Edison State University (TESU) uses “Writing Research Papers: A Complete Guide” by Lester, J. D., & Lester, J. D., Jr. (2018) for their capstone courses. Does UMPI have an equivalent resource?
Any tips or materials you could share would be greatly appreciated!

I completed the Foundation course “Global Entrepreneurship & Innovation Bootcamp” but I don't see any certificate. Has anyone experienced the same issue?
You can see the screenshot I shared below. I followed the instructions, but still, I didn't see any certificate.

Seeking interviewees with non-accredited/non-traditional degrees for Ohio State Study
Posted by: mitchell1857 - 09-10-2024, 02:36 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

Hello!

My name is Sam and I'm a doctoral candidate at Ohio State studying non-traditional colleges and universities. I previously posted on DegreeForum earlier this year so if this post looks familiar, that's why. I was able to connect with a few helpful folks here who I interviewed about their experiences with non-accredited colleges and universities, and I am still seeking interviewees so I'm here again. I know that these kind of recruitment posts can sometimes be annoying for people, so I do apologize in advance, but I hope this won't be seen as too off topic.

TLDR: Ohio State PhD Seeking adults who earned degrees or certificates from non-accredited colleges/universities for a 60-90 minute interview about their experiences.

Formal call for participants

Hello all, I am a doctoral student at The Ohio State University in the department of Sociology. I’m currently completing dissertation research on non-accredited colleges and universities and I am recruiting adults who have obtained a degree from a non-accredited college/university and would be willing to participate in a 60-90 minute interview via Zoom or telephone to talk about their experiences. I am interested in talking to both individuals who intentionally sought out a degree from a non-accredited institution, or individuals who were unaware that their college was non-accredited at the time of earning a degree.

Some examples of non-accredited institutions (with some nuances regarding accreditation in certain countries): Rushmore University, ENEB University, Alexandria University, Ashwood University, Corllins University, Frederick Taylor University, Suffield University, Pacific Western University, Thornewood University (note: your institution doesn't need to be one of these to participate, these are merely examples).

Your participation will help increase knowledge on these institutions, why adults might seek credentials from non-traditional colleges, and higher education more broadly.

For any questions or to participate, please contact me at mitchell.1857@osu.edu or fill out this Google Form.

B School that Allows Undergrad to take Grad Courses
Posted by: SophiaPrincess - 09-10-2024, 01:48 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (9)

Thanks to the advice on this forum, I will soon complete my bachelor's degree with three years of unused Pell Grant remaining.  If I postponed graduation, could I continue taking courses at another university beyond what is required to graduate?  If so, does anyone know an accredited business school that will allow an undergraduate student to take graduate courses? My goal is to transfer these graduate business courses into an accredited MBA program, ideally AACSB but I am open.  My current university will allow me take a limited number of graduate courses with a waiver but they do not have a graduate school of business so the courses would not help me obtain an MBA.

Thank you.

If you get an error message when clicking on a course, keep the language to Portuguese. Then, once you're on the course page, you can translate.

  Degree advice pls
Posted by: starsfan33 - 09-09-2024, 11:54 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (9)

Hello everyone! My name is Steven, and I am new hear. I am 51 years old, and I am researching ways to quickly earn my bachelor's degree. I have 46 credits, but they are very aged. Some are from 1998, and some are from 2011-2013. I do not know 100% what degree I want it in or if I can even find what I am looking for in an online self-paced collage that will allow for Sofia credits and/or study.com credits.

My thoughts right now are:

1. nutrition
2. Psychology
3. Biblical studies

However, as stated, I am not 100% sold on any particular degree at this time. I am just doing the research, so I am open to ideas.

One of my BIG concerns is, I will not be able to get traditional financial aid (Yes, I have checked, yes, I am positive) so I will also be seeking guidance on how I might can find and obtain other grants and scholarships that I am unaware of at the moment.

Here is the list of classes I have already taken and have a total of 46 credits.

  1. PSYC - 2301 - GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY
  2. PSYC - 2372 - ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY
  3. ENGL - 1301 - COMPOSITION / RHETORIC I
  4. CDEC - 1319 - CHILD GUIDANCE
  5. DRAM - 1310 - INTRO TO THEATRE
  6. GOVT - 2301 - AMERICAN GOVERNMENT 1
  7. HIST - 1301 - U.S. HISTORY I
  8. SPCH -1311 - FUNDAMENTALS OF SPEECH COMMUNICATION
  9. GOVT - 2302 - AMERICAN GOVERNMENT II
  10. HUMA - 1301 - INTRODUCTION TO THE HUMANITIES
  11. COSC - 1301 - COMPUTERS AND TECHNOLOGY
  12. ECON - 1301 - INTRODUCTION TO ECONOMICS
  13. PSYC - 2315 - PSYCHOLOGY OF ADJUSTMENT
  14. PHED - 1117 - BEGINNING TENNIS
  15. HIST - 2301 - HISTORY OF TEXAS
  16. PSYC - 2306 - HUMAN SEXUALITY
Also would like imput on schools. I have spoken to UMPI once a couple of years ago and I liked them OK, it was just so expensive. but if I can find the grants and scholarships, it would be doable.

I also think if I went the biblical studies route, Liberty U would probably be decent.

But, I am just not sure what all is out there, and where would give me the best bang for my buck bringing in existing credits, and accepting Sofia credits.

Please chime in! Thank you.
