  FIRST TERM IN Excelsior !
Posted by: minhda - 08-22-2024, 11:18 AM - Forum: EU - Excelsior University Discussion - Replies (12)

Hello Everyone,
My name is Minh and I am from Viet Nam. I have been  credited with 102 transfer credits from my previous univeristy which means I have to complete  6 courses plus a 1 credit course that is also required for the degree. Those subjects are:

  • Cornerstone
  • Ethics
  • Information Literacy
  • Business Writing or Eng Composition II
  • Leadership
  • Project Management
  • Integrated Business and Management Assessment
I have read through and got no idea what is  about sophia and study.com to transfer the credits. Can anyone give me some explanations about that ? I am paying $1740 per course that is quite expensive for me and I had to pay by credit card. Does courses at Sophia or study are cheaper or something ?  Those courses I have to take above are require a lot of time to study and can we get any other resources to get all those assignments and final exam done easily ? What is the best and fastest way for me to get my degree ASAP by summer 2025  ?

My goal is just to get a business degree ASAP. What University should I apply for the fastest and cheapest way ? I am currently applying to Excelsior and paid for my first course for $1740. But they accept 102 credits which I only left 6 courses.

  MSM vs MBA vs other
Posted by: Kjnova - 08-22-2024, 08:36 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (37)

Tomorrow is the last day of my session at UMPI. I get my grades next week and the BABA will be conferred within a few weeks after that.

I am trying to figure out which master's degree to pursue. I am unemployed right now, but have a pretty successful career with roles like program manager or agile coach for fortune 100 companies.

I know the general focus of the board is on maximum fast transfer credits, low cost, high speed, etc, but in my case, I would like a highly credible name for the master's university (eg US News & World Report top 100 national universities), since my undergrad university is not very well-known. Speed and cost also matter but are secondary to that.

Given that, I am looking at options like:

UIUC iMSM - $12,500 - I have applied here, my application is pending unofficial transcript - note, can stack into the MBA
UIUC iMBA - $25,000
Boston University MBA - $25,000
and,
Boston University Master of Data Science - $25,000 (I've been accepted to this)
Georgia Tech Master of Science in Cybersecurity/Policy concentration - $11,500, but I would have to wait until fall 2025 due to application deadlines

I am not that technical myself, but I often work in leadership roles with technical teams.

I have been planning to do UIUC MSM, if admitted, and later consider whether to also add the UIUC MBA, but I'm having second thoughts. Perhaps I should just pursue the MBA now? The questions in my mind are, what is the impact of my resume saying I am pursuing an MBA vs it saying that I am pursuing an MSM? And, would it be more valuable in 18 months to actually have an MSM, or to still be pursuing an MBA?

There is value in saying you are pursuing one of these degrees as well as value in having the degree and I want to be aware of that, since the one to three years I am pursuing the degree are also important in terms of jobs and advancement.

I know everybody looks at these factors differently and I don't think there is a wrong way to do it, but given how I am framing it, I'd love any advice about the degrees or schools I am listing, or other similar options. Thanks!

  Want to enroll/get an education
Posted by: ItinTech - 08-22-2024, 03:54 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (14)

Hello I recently found this amazing community like 5 hours ago and it’s one of the best things I’ve ran into.
Recently ive been battling extreme procrastination when it comes to getting an education. I’ve been going back and forth on whether or not I want to spend the money on a bootcamp or go the degree route and while searching around online I saw someone mention this gem and after looking around for the last couple hours on here it made me decide to want to go for my BA Or atleast AAS. My only fear is that when I was in high school I only did what I needed to do to pass and now it may comeback to bite me. My grades were not great and I also did not go to college at all so I have nothing to show after HS which I’ve seen most admissions want if you didn’t at least have great grades in HS. Any help would be appreciated as I’m really trying to improve myself and QOL. Budget is around 15k-20k also I may be eligible for financial aid so that will help with tuition aswell. I’m hoping to find an efficient enough route that won’t take me too long to complete if possible I.e that’s one reason why ive been going back and forth between getting a degree or boot camp

I hope I posted this in the correct category lol

Your Location: New York, United States.
Your Age: 25
What kind of degree do you want?: Been wanting to get into CyberSecurity/IT. I’ve always been interested in technology since I was young and that’s what I envisioned my future career would always be in(tech).

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None

Update on My Journey to UMPI BAS and MAOL
Posted by: Hackingat40 - 08-21-2024, 07:02 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (5)

Hey everyone. Just wanted to update and get any feedback or advice on what to do.

Currently I am in Pierpont BOG AAS requesting information systems as my AOE. I have a transcript and paid my $350 fees for December 13th Graduation. (I hope I am still included with what was before the new BOG requirements that just went live with the new dean)

I have 1 class left at sophia Business Communications that I am awaiting grading for my final touchstone.

Included are some screenshots of progress and plan.

I was just going to try and do BAS with double minor of Project management and Management information systems. But due to all my credits maybe I can sneak in the Triple of management.

I applied for UMPI already and sent transcripts from 2 previous schools and Credly (Minus the current class I am waiting on for pass grading)I can not send Pierpont transcripts because I believe it will mess up my degree there.

Anyways if anyone can help me maybe build a plan or dial anything easier for the BAS I would greatly appreciate it as I have been working my rear end off for the last 5 ish months.

Thanks!

  WGU, Capella or Something Else?
Posted by: cleeevus - 08-21-2024, 05:52 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (3)

Your Location: Scottsdale, AZ
Your Age: 35
What kind of degree do you want?: BA Healthcare Administration
Current Regional Accredited Credits: 0
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 0
Any certifications or military experience?: Certified Nursing Assistant (2009/2010) trade school
Budget: variable- but would like to pay as little as possible after employer reimbursement.
Commitments: Work (2x12 hr shifts per week), 3 kids+ spouse
Dedicated time to study: 20 hours a week? Potentially more
Timeline: The sooner the better but would be happy with 2-3 years. Hopefully less.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: My employer is partnered with Capella and University of Phoenix which allow for completely free tuition (with credit limits per year). Outside of those two I receive 5-20% discount at most AZ universities as well as $5,250 annual reimbursement. Degree must be healthcare/ hospital related.

Extras: High school drop out (tested out/ obtained my G.E.D.) just never cared enough to pay attention in school but can do well when I want to (CNA school, Real Estate School, excel at any job). I prefer test taking over projects and long, drawn out requirements. Mostly looking to take advantage of this great benefit from my employer and prove to myself that I can do it. Bonus motivation from my sophomore teenager who likes to use the "you didn't even finish school" excuse when I am pushing for better effort.

Based on what I’ve read here I am leaning toward completing as many credits as possible through Sophia & Study.com and then transferring credits to Capella or WGU but would love to hear any and all recommendations you might have! Thank you.

Help - Math Credits for TESU
Posted by: Frederico.Sandoval - 08-21-2024, 04:34 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (2)

Hi Everyone!

Thanks to your recommendations, I've officially enrolled in TESU for a Math/CS double major! I've already knocked out all my general education credits and completed some Area of Study (AOS) courses, such as Calculus I, Statistics, and Intro to Programming through Sophia.

Now, I need to tackle the remaining AOS math requirements, which include Calculus II, Calculus III, and Linear Algebra. After doing some research, I came across LSU’s self-paced courses (link: https://ce.lsu.edu/search/publicCourseAd...ype=direct), and they seem like a solid option.

Has anyone taken these courses? If so, how was your experience, and did you have success transferring the credits? Also, are there any other self-paced or online course options that you would recommend?

Thank you all for your continued support—I really appreciate it!

Thoughts on LABASAD - Creative Online Masters - Escuela de Diseño Online
Posted by: magm - 08-21-2024, 01:43 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi, I'm thinking of enrolling in a LABASAD online masters in graphic design or maybe art direction. Would love to hear any thoughts on the program, as there aren't many reviews online. I'm based in the U.S. and curious to see if there are any US based folks that are enrolled in any LABASAD programs, as it's based in Barcelona. Also a bit wary that they are not transparent about pricing on their public website, looks like you have to schedule a call with an advisor to find out how much courses cost...Wondering if this is worth it and if anyone has thoughts, thanks!

Computer Science Bachelor for a non-US resident
Posted by: michaela - 08-21-2024, 12:21 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (10)

Hi everyone,

I'm seeking advice on selecting the most suitable university.

Your Location: Europe
Your Age: 30
What kind of degree do you want?: Bachelor of Computer Science or Software Engineering
Current Regional Accredited Credits: No
Some additional exam? No
Other degrees: Bachelor of Economy and Management from 2017, Tomas Bata University (Czech republic)

Online ACE credits: None, yet
Military experience: No
Certifications: PMI-ACP, PSM I (Scrum Master)
Commitments: Full-time job, but flexible and fully remote
Dedicated time to study: I could get in at least 20h per week (likely even slightly more)

RA Credits: I have a bachelor's degree, but my grades weren't the best. Since I read that only C or higher is accepted from international universities, these courses might be applicable for me (not sure if those could be eligible for transfer):
MUSKM/PPZD Computerised Data Processing  - C
MUMMPOMPSY Managerial Psychology - A
MUE/PDET The History of Economic Theories - C
MUMM/PMMT Managerial Methods and Techniques - C
MUMM/PMRK Marketing I - B
MUPI/PPMA Product management - C
MUSKM/PZKMT Introduction to Quantitative Methods - C
MUFU/PFIT Financial Markets - C

Goal?
I am currently employed (full-time) as a Project Manager at a SaaS company, overseeing software development projects. My long-term goal is to transition into a Software Engineering role. To achieve this, I plan to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, followed by a Master's degree.

As a non-US resident, selecting the right online program has been a bit challenging due to cost and eligibility concerns. I'm seeking advice on choosing a suitable program that meets the following criteria:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s in Computer Science
  • Accreditation: Regionally accredited (preferably)
  • Eligibility: Open to non-US citizens
  • Credit Transfer: Allows at least 75% credit transfer to reduce costs
  • Cost: Preferably under €15,000 for the whole program
  • Time: The program should be doable in under 2 years (I understand this depends on my availability, but I want to ensure it's possible).
Programs Considered:
  • WGU: Does not accept non-US residents.
  • University of the People: Not regionally accredited, though I may reconsider if no better options are available.
  • TESU: Meets most criteria but is a bit expensive; at $556 per credit for non-US residents, the mandatory 30 credits would cost over $16,700 + additional fees.
  • Franklin University: Offers a 76% credit transfer and charges $526 per credit (= slightly below 16k), though I’m yet not sure if they accept international students living outside the US.

Can you suggest any other options that might be suitable for me, ideally with slightly lower costs?

Thanks

Main Thread - Pierpoint gradution, questions, issues
Posted by: Pikachu - 08-21-2024, 11:50 AM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (50)

bjcheung77 Mod Edit: Oct 4 is the graduation application deadline for Pierpont, you apply at least a week or two early, I would apply for grad today as I mentioned.  Even though you're doing classes for Sophia.org in Sept, you don't need to send them everything by Oct 4, you just need to apply for grad.  You can send the Sophia.org classes once you are done a 'batch' at a time, say 10 classes using Credly.  Try to get everything complete before Oct 15, or third week of Oct and send those in, the latest is end of Oct as they need to go through grad audit beginning of Nov for Dec 2024 graduation.

Have there been any international graduates of BOG AAS?

Is it just me or is Pierpont blocking access to non-US IP addresses.. I've emailed their IT Help Desk but it's kind of funny they allow admissions from internationals yet block access to ROAR and email via their firewall rules LOL!
