MAOL - Save For Last Class Question
Posted by: CCCollege - 09-18-2024, 11:37 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (1)

I'm working as quickly as I can through my MAOL - started 9/3 and I've completed 500, 510, 520, 530, and I'm 2 milestones submitted for 540 with every intention of submitting the 3rd and having my final prepared tomorrow.

So that leaves me with 600, 610, 630, 640, and 650 for my last 5 courses.  I need to knock out 4 of those by 10/11.  So I'm hoping to do the faster 4, so I can save the longest for last... but I don't know which will be the longest?  (not worried about 600, Morin's courses are my vibe)

Any insights?

As an aside, I've had Trudel before so I know his expectations.

Thanks for your help! <3

Question Transfer credit question
Posted by: Educated Wombat - 09-18-2024, 09:02 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (18)

Hello, long time lurker first time poster here. I am helping my husband work on his degree plan for the BABA Supply Chain concentration. I created a lovely excel sheet for him using all the great information on this site. He attended a local CC where he earned 12 free credits towards a supply chain certificate, he couldn't finish the cert because he doesn't have a valid HS diploma. He is reluctantly accepting to complete the GED before applying to UMPI, as his transcripts from high school completed internationally cannot be located. In the meantime, he is working backwards and banging out any applicable Sophia courses. He is not interested in completed credits through study.com as he is not a great test taker and fears the proctoring process.  SO, my question is what happens to credits that do not appear on the credit transfer equivalency guides? I have looked up the school he attended and cannot find those courses on there, but they sound like they might be similar.

Was rejected for BA COS/Bio + BS CIS
Posted by: Captainrekt000 - 09-18-2024, 07:29 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (2)

Since the change from BSBA-CIS TO BS CIS. It was my understanding that we could double that up with the BA COS. I emailed an advisor to add the BS CIS on top of my BA COS/Bio (double major). She said "I can't add th BS CIS because the dean says you already have your BS Chem from a different school". I thought I could earn 2 TESU bachelor's? The advisor did not specify any reason other than "The dean didn't allow it".

ChatGPT had severe limitations in things such as math, coding, and PHD level responses. Now it looks like a new model addresses some of these concerns.

TESU BA Psych experimental psychology requirement
Posted by: wow - 09-18-2024, 01:28 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (7)

The wiki says that study.com 105: Research Methods in Psychology can be used to fulfill the "B. Experimental" requirement for the BA in psychology, but I just asked an advisor about it and they told me that it can only be used as an additional elective four sections J or K.
Has anyone had success having Study.com PSY-105 applied to section B? I have enough upper levels already, so I'd like to avoid taking TESU's PSY-322 Research in Experimental Psychology to fulfill that requirement if I can. (Reminder, this is for the ba in psychology not the bachelor of arts in liberal studies with a concentration in psychology.)

  What CLEP Courses?
Posted by: mpathy - 09-18-2024, 10:41 AM - Forum: CLEP, DSST, and TECEP Exam Discussion. Also Modern States and InstantCert. - Replies (4)

Hey everyone,

I'm a newbie to degreeforum (literally signed up 10 minutes ago), and I was wondering how do you go about choosing the right CLEP exams. I am currently in the process of enrolling into a community college in the winter and their policy states that CLEP credits is accepted in general studies degrees. It also states that a maximum of 30 CLEP credits can be applied toward electives. Note, I intend on pursuing a AA in business (90 credits) and then transferring to a 4-year.

Here is a pdf list of courses under this degree (https://www.tacomacc.edu/_attachments/ac...-23-24.pdf), but I'm lost on how many and which courses I need to take.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

PhD Finance or DBA for career in Financial Management / Investment Management
Posted by: David1477 - 09-18-2024, 08:27 AM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi!

This question is mostly aimed towards people that completed their DBA/PhD and have personal experience with the industry recognition/industry value of these degrees.

My academic roadmap is nearly mapped out.

BSc in BA -> MSc in Accounting and Finance. Now, for a career in financial/investment management, what would be the optimal terminal degree to this path?

I have the option to pursue either a PhD in finance or a DBA at the school of my choice. The cost is roughly the same. The PhD would push me deeper into my specialization, while the DBA would be more of a general management degree (however, my dissertation in the DBA program can still be related to a topic in finance).

I've heard stories about both sides: "the PhD is only valued in academia and doesn't help you in industry jobs" / "the DBA is not a classic doctorate degree so people will not take it seriously".

What are your experiences and your recommendations? To which extend are the two statements from above true or false? Which degree would you think benefits me the most in this industry?
