Information Newbie Needs Advice !! Quick and Easy Degree for International Student
Posted by: smartfion - 04-19-2024, 01:10 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (6)

Hey everyone!  Cool

I'm new here and looking for some advice on choosing a university and program for an international student like me. Here's a bit about me and what I'm looking for:

Background
·       Earned an English literature degree from an overseas university 10 years ago (3-year program from an accredited university)

Goals
·       Need to receive a digital degree certificate and official transcript as quickly as possible. By mid-January 2025 to be exact (for job transfer purpose)
·       Subject focus: Marketing or Business. Open to bachelor or master but please consider the ease of completion as I haven't done any academic work for over a decade and I'm not too confident if the coursework is way more challenging for a Master's degree.
·       Total tuition budget under $10-12K (lower is better of course)

Additional Note
·       My job is quite flexible, so I don't mind getting as many credits as possible through platforms like Study.com or Sophia and etc. to accelerate my degree

And, here are my questions:

1. Which universities would you recommend that fit my needs and preferences?
2. Are there any specific programs you think I should look into?
3. Any tips or advice on how to navigate this process smoothly?

Ease of completion and getting the credential quickly are my top priorities. Heart

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Fiona

LVN/LPN to RN - options for (mostly) online education?
Posted by: studyingfortests - 04-19-2024, 12:07 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (18)

Hi, folks.

I have a friend who holds an LVN (California) and wants to get his RN degree. My first thought was TESU, but they do not seem to have much in the way of online options for this route.

However, a quick search turned up this program at Indiana State U that appears to be exactly the sort of thing he would need. However, it seems spendy, and their page that lists state eligibility is down, so I can't even tell if CA residents are eligible. Well phooey, actually, that program isn't available in CA, so it's out.

The catch is, he did his LVN at a vocational education program that is not institutionally accredited, so it seems highly unlikely any of his credits or classes would transfer to the bachelor's degree. He has no other college credits, other than culinary school (similar trade school with no institutional accreditation.)

Any thoughts on his best route? Would it be effective to get a low-cost general bachelors from UMPI or TESU and then use that to transfer to a BSN? Or are there schools with alt credit programs that offer an LVN-BSN bridge program?

Thanks in advance!

need advice on YourPace BBA Project Mgmt and Info Systems
Posted by: EducationSeeker - 04-18-2024, 10:06 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (4)

Hello,

I am seeking guidance for my son who is 22 and looking at the Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Project Management and Information Systems in the YourPace program at UMPI. Based on the title of the concentration, it seems as though the concentration is more concentrated on IT. However, his interest is focused on Construction Project Management so I am wondering if the degree could be utilized in that capacity? He has about 28 credit hours from Youngstown State University towards his General Education required courses.

Thanks,

EducationSeeker

  Wrexham/Glyndwr and Abertay
Posted by: housecat - 04-18-2024, 03:31 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (5)

Hi there,

Has anyone compared the offerings from Wrexham University (Glyndwr) and Abertay University?
Or had experience with either university?

Similarities:

  • Async instruction
  • FAQ sections almost word for word
  • Both have similar entry requirements
  • Similar pricing structures
  • Not third-party accredited, but legit brick-and-mortar buildings with on-campus offerings, public funded
  • Canvas LMS
  • Marketing and funnelling and "ask us for more while we hide the info you want like course outlines"
  • Website "feelings" when reading through them

Differences:
  • Names of universities
  • Locations: Wrexham in Wales, UK versus Abertay in Scotland, UK
  • Website are somewhat different, but still have the same feeling somehow

Are they selling access to the same system I wonder, like a partnership from a third-party educator? Such an example would be University of Cumbria, University of Salford Manchester, York St. John University, and University of Gloucestershire all selling through Robert Kennedy College.

Any thoughts, go for it, I'm open to ideas Big Grin

Gardner-Webb University: 10-12 month online MBA?
Posted by: PaperAssistant - 04-18-2024, 01:37 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (7)

Hello,

Have never posted on here before. Just seeing if anyone might have any knowledge or experience with this online MBA program because haven't been able to find a lot as far as reviews or feedback so far.

I believe this is some of the information:

Gardner-Webb University:
10-12 month online MBA.
Founded in 1905 in N.C.
Classes every 8 weeks.
Cost per credit hour is $665
30 credit hours.
ACBSP accredited MBA

Perhaps similiar to Eastern University online MBA.

Just seeing if anyone might have any thoughts on this school.
Feel free to correct me if I am mistaken about something. Thanks

Want better grades? Move towards the beginning of the alphabet.
Posted by: davewill - 04-18-2024, 01:31 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (7)

I suppose it isn't too surprising that grading gets harsher as the grader reads the same ideas and sees the same mistakes for 20th time. While 0.3 out of 100 doesn't sound like a lot, if it puts you on one side of a line instead of the other, it hurts.

https://phys.org/news/2024-04-grades-stu...etical.amp

Quote:An analysis by University of Michigan researchers of more than 30 million grading records from U-M finds students with alphabetically lower-ranked names receive lower grades. This is due to sequential grading biases and the default order of students' submissions in Canvas—the most widely used online learning management system—which is based on the alphabetical rank of their surnames.

What's more, they find, those alphabetically disadvantaged students receive comments that are notably more negative and less polite, and exhibit lower grading quality measured by post-grade complaints from students.

TESU - Exploring Degree Options with Tuition Assistance
Posted by: Lightorb333 - 04-18-2024, 11:17 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (8)

Hello everyone!,

I have been offered tuition assistance of up to $2,000 per academic year starting in 2025.

I completed my BA in CS at TESU and am interested in programs that would allow me to pursue further degrees (BA, MS, AS) in Data Science, Analytics, or something related to Marketing, as I currently work as the Webmaster in a Marketing Team.

I would like to know, given my credits at TESU and those masters credits I have from WGU and NYU, which program would provide the best value for my investment.

The ideal scenario for me would be to earn an AS alongside a BA, or a BA alongside an MS, or to pursue all three degrees (AS, BA, and MS) simultaneously (I'm greedy)

I know that you have to take 16 credits in a semester to avoid paying the resident's fee, wondering how I will manage that

New Member with a UMPI Question
Posted by: colonelcamp - 04-17-2024, 08:10 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (13)

Hi Everyone,

I just joined and saw a post suggesting we all fill in the below questionnaire. Below is my story. I do have a preliminary question UMPI's BLS - Minor in Management. I found another post that contained some gret info on UMPI's BABA degree, specifically the UMPI classes you need to take and their ACE equivalents.

https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UM...quivalents

I was looking for the same for the BLS - Management degree, but couldn't find it. Can anyone direct me to that?

Thanks!

Chris

Your Location: NJ, United States.
Your Age: 48
What kind of degree do you want?:  Bachelor’s Liberal Studies – Management Minor.
Current Regional Accredited Credits: Hudson County Community College (currently enrolled and taking 7 credits - Spring 2024 Semester)

DegreeForum University Total Credits: 0
Google University Total Credits: 0

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: These are things like Study, Sophia, InstantCert InstantCredit, CLEP, Straighterline, Davar etc

Sophia Credits: 9 (as of 4-17-24)
Spanish I, 3, 98%
US Gov, 3, 92% or A
Intro to Sociology, 3, 92% or A

Any certifications or military experience? I have expired Cisco certifications: CCNA, CCNP, CCIE

Budget: I don’t really have a set budget for this. I can pay as I go. However, I would like the cheapest route possible and the two schools I’m considering are UMPI and WGU, but heavily leaning towards UMPI because of the degree programs offered.
Commitments: I have 2 adult children (out of the house) plus a HS junior. I work full time from home mostly and have tons of time to commit to this endeavor. I have two dogs too, but they don’t present any challenges. If anything they makes things better ?.
Dedicated time to study: Plenty of time to study. I work from home and pretty much make my own schedule.
Timeline: I’ve been on Sophia for about 3 weeks and completed 3 courses for 9 credits, taking about 1 week completely off to devote to traditional college classes and the work for that. Once my college semester is over, I will be able to devote more time to Sophia and really get going with that, but my plan is to do as many of those ACE credits as possible before enrolling in UMPI (or maybe WGU). Possibly 6 months on Sophia and then perhaps 6-months to year at UMPI. As I understand it, UMPI accepts most ACE credits.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: No.

Please provide any relevant details you may have that may help us determine a option or path for you to investigate, such as your preference towards either test-out (you're a great test taker) or competency based education (because you like assessments, assignments and have test anxiety).  What other details you provide us can help determine your course of action suited for your educational journey...
I’m a 48-year-old IT Manager with a pretty great career going. After graduating high school (94), I tried community college for 1 semester after the summer and didn’t complete it. It just wasn’t for me at that particular time in my life. I worked full time for about 3 years after that when a friend told me about this school he enrolled in where he was learning all sorts of networking technologies. He explained a bit what he was learning and having had an interest in technology, I sat in on a couple of classes and found that I really wanted to learn this stuff, plus the potential pay would be amazing compared to what I was earning. I enrolled, completed it after about 2 years, got my CCNA, then 2 years later my CCNP and then 3 years after that, my CCIE. I’ve worked as a network architect, solutions consultant, IT ops manager and as a pre-sales engineer over what’s been about a 25-year career.  It’s been a pretty good one with great earnings along the way.
The one thing I have always regretted is not having gotten my degree. With my youngest embarking on his college search (junior in HS), I’ve been inspired to finally do it. Will it help me career-wise? Maybe, but this is something I want to do for me. For the sake of the pursuit. I’m the kind of person that when I decided to do something, I get COMPLETELY locked in. I’ve committed to this, and I want it!

I just found it. Thanks!

  Commencement Announcement

Did anyone receive the commencement announcement today that they said was being emailed out today to graduates? I didn’t receive one and now I’m paranoid I’m not part of the class of 2024 even though I applied for graduation.
