Final Stretch Degree Plan Help TESU BSBA
Posted by: Sargoththemino - 04-26-2024, 11:20 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (5)

As mentioned I'm getting close and want to close out this BSBA in General Management at TESU. I have 100 units of credit with the Cap stone, GMA and AOS electives remaining (21 units total). I'd like to verify this plan will work.

TESU BUS-4210 Business Administration Capstone 3UL
DAVAR FIN-310 Multinational Business Finance 3UL
DAVAR  MAN-390 Managerial Communications 3UL
DAVAR MAR-330 Principles of Sales 3UL
DAVAR MAN-310 Organizational Behavior 3UL
Sofia Developing Effective Teams 3LL
Sofia Project Management 3LL

My big question is if the two LL Sofia courses will transfer into the AOS elective requirement. I think it will as "HRM-215 Leadership" and "MAN-235 Intro to Project Management". That will give me 15UL and 6LL. Thanks for the help!

  Transfer Credits for Certificates
Posted by: 3ichael7ambert - 04-26-2024, 08:50 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (9)

I have over 200 credits, and my base question is can I transfer these around and get a few quick certs?

Per example, https://catalog.uopeople.edu/ug_term1_it...nd-courses

I have most of those classes knocked out, first of all UoPeople is national and charge per credit to transfer.
What about some RA colleges, I'm just looking for stuff thatI can use to build out a nice academic portfolio.

  PhD by Conference Presentation
Posted by: sanantone - 04-26-2024, 07:00 PM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (4)

By now, we're all familiar with Capitol Technology University being one of the few American universities to offer dissertation-only doctorates. As an alternative, you can publish three articles in "high-impact" journals. According to a former student, who posted here and chose the publication option, CapTech is not particularly picky when it comes to journal choices.

Now, there is a third option...sort of. In lieu of two of the three peer-reviewed articles, you can present at two peer-reviewed, international conferences. When I last looked, I only saw this option on the Engineering Management and Healthcare Technology pages, but it's possible that they just didn't update all the 40+ doctoral program pages.

  Warning about Brightspace Modules
Posted by: yc1981 - 04-26-2024, 01:57 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (4)

So I found today that Brightspace will not leave a module incomplete or flag you in any way if you don't pass a milestone with a 3. I got all the way to the end of a class and couldn't figure out what was going on, because even though absolutely everything had a check mark next to it, and there was nothing flagged up, my final draft submission area would not open up. I finally got ahold of the learning support team and they said my second milestone from over a month ago had not received a passing score. I went back and looked and there's nothing really unusual to flag up that the score isn't passing, if the professor doesn't specifically say so in the notes. This is very different to every other online course platform I have used before, where either it won't allow you to progress til the milestone is a passing score, or at least it will leave it showing incomplete or flagged somehow. In UMPI, as you can see from the screenshot, all it says is "Well Done! You have completed the assignment". LOL. And all the modules just show check marks. So yeah just wanted to post this for any new UMPI Yourpace students so you know to carefully check the number on your score.

  International GCSE Sciences (EU/UK) Info

For those who want to compare the EU/UK options with the CLEP, AP, IB or other options such as challenge exams, here are three links, one is to a 17 page PDF.  I was comparing these options for my family, extended family, and friends, thought this may help those who want to decide from a UK vs US education...

  UMPI BLS w/Management Minor Completion
Posted by: OchoNombres - 04-26-2024, 10:55 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (7)

Good morning!  I’m looking for a bit of guidance.  I am considering applying for an UMPI B.L.S. with a Management Minor.

Location: Georgia, United States

Age: 57

What kind of degree:  I’m considering a BIL with Management Minor from UMPI, but I’m open to other ideas.  This is more of a vanity project, so I don’t expect a financial POI.  Therefore, the cheaper the better.

Current Regional Accredited Credits:

Liberty University - 12 credits
BUSI 100 Intro to Business  3 B
BIFO 150 Life of Christ/Early Church 3 B
BIFO 151 Life of Christ/Early Church 2 3 B
CCHI 301 History of Christian Church 3 C

Northeast Alabama Community Collge - 44 credits
CIS146 Computer Applications 3 A
HIS101 Western Civilization 1   3 C
HIS102 Western Civilization 2 3 B
BIO 103 Principles of Biology 1 4 A
BIO 104 Principles of Biology 2 4 A
CRJ 100 Intro to CJ 3 A
CRJ 160 Intro to Security 3 A
CRJ 208 Intro to Criminology  3 A
CRJ 209 Juv Delinquincy  3 A
CRJ 290 Selected Topics - Seminar in CJ 3 A
POL 211 American National Government 3 A
POL 220 State and Local Government 3 A
PSY 210 Human Growth and Development 3 B

BUMM 612 Marketing Mangement 3 B x
USMx EdX
(One course from a now defunct MicroMasters "Core MBA" )

Columbia  University
Specialization In Construction Management non-credit

I spent a bit of time on this and from what I can tell,if the CRJ credits from Community College transfer as lower level electives, I’ll basically have that box full.  A few existing credits should transfer to cover some Gen Ed credits.

That would leave me with 18 hours for the minor and 21 hours of upper level electives.

I’m thinking that the following Sophia classes would then fit in:

English Comp 1 GOL 1a & d
English Comp 2  GLO 1b, 2c, 4b

Art History 1
Art History 2  GLO 2e

College Algebra  3a,&b

Project Management (Minor)
Business Communication (Minor)

Intro to Ethics 4c & 5d
Into to Sociology 5a

Will some kind soul take a glance at this and tell me if I’m heading in the right direction here?

Thanks!

Is a philosophy minor possible at UMPI?
Posted by: LevelUP - 04-26-2024, 09:40 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (8)

I was wondering if a philosophy minor is possible at UMPI. The major issue looks to be if the PHI 150 - Introduction to Logic can be satisfied by an easy/cheap way to get credit.
http://catalog.umpi.edu/preview_program....turnto=155

According to the UMPI DB, Sophia's critical thinking comes in as HUM 103. Maybe it's possible that course could fulfill the PHI 150 requirement?

According to the UMPI DB, WGU's Critical Thinking and Logic course is equivalent to PHI 150. Also, the University of Phoenix's PHL 251 Critical Thinking transfer is accepted as PHI 150.

Has anyone ever pursued a philosophy minor?

Data Analytics Courses - Maven Analytics
Posted by: Vle045 - 04-26-2024, 09:16 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

I came across this program on LinkedIn.  I know I have seen some folks looking for ways to learn more about data.  These don’t carry college credit but some do have continuing ed credits.  There’s free and paid options.  I haven’t tried it out yet, but it looks like a solid option for those who might not need a formal degree.
I might give the free version a shot, although I do have quite a few irons in the fire right now.

Getting BA after Pierpont BOG AAS.
Posted by: Faceparade - 04-26-2024, 09:13 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (15)

During COVID I finished a ton of courses and got my AAS from Pierpont. Now I’ve found myself in a position with a good amount of spare time and would like to pursue a BA. How should I go about transferring credits to one of the big 3 and find courses to finish the degree. Thanks!
