Information applying for OMSCS with indian online degree
Posted by: MJREM - 04-20-2024, 10:02 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (5)

Hello,

I'm an international student from Africa, I hold a BSc in Computer Science from Uopeple,  and now I'm looking to apply for the OMSCS program but they accept only Regional Degrees.

so I thought to work around this by getting an online Master's degree from universities like Manipal, Amrita, Amity, Symbiosis, Jain, LPU ..etc

or postgraduate diploma from iiqf.org

just for the sake of getting a degree to apply for the OMSCS and for my application to be considered.

also, I thought of online Indian universities because of the fees i can get the degree for less than 4k which is what I can afford.

Full Information about my Education History:

  •     I completed 21 credits at a local Open university, and I evaluated those credits using scholars.com service to transfer it to Uopeople
  •     i completed some courses at Sophia.org
  •     i completed some credit courses at Coursera (Google IT + IBM Professional )

Studying my Options:

so i have communicated with the OMSCS admission office and asked them if I will be considered if I apply with Master Degree International University, and their response :
" If the school where you earned your master's is regionally accredited or is the equivalent of regionally accredited as we call it in the US, then yes, you would be eligible."

The issue is I'm not sure how can I know whether this international university is regionally accredited or not (by USA standards)

I found good cheap options with fees under 4,000$ like Manipal University, O.P Jindal University, and more universities that are accredited by the Ministry of High Education in India.

universities like WGU are not an option for me because I'm not from USA or Canada

So what do you think will work for me, are there any possibilities?

  Help with ENEB
Posted by: David1477 - 04-20-2024, 09:05 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (12)

Hi!

I don't quite have the time and patience to read through all the 274 pages about ENEB, so I hope you can help me.  Angel

Situation:

I am currently doing my BSc in BA at UoPeople. I now have 99/120 credits and will graduate within the next year (3.9 GPA atm)

I live in Belarus and don't plan on working in academia/government jobs.

I have some leftover time to study and would love to already use that towards a masters degree.

I got a 50% scholarship from UoPeople and transfered in 90 credits from Sophia, so I will manage to get my Bachelors for roughly 1.200$, which I am very happy with.

Regarding a masters degree, the only really affordable option I found was WorldQuant University. I suck at math and programming and don't particularly like either of them very much, so that program seems to be a bad fit.

An MBA at UoPeople costs 4.800$, Nexford costs roughly 4.000$, RA accredited US online MBAs and online MBAs from the UK start from around 10k$.

Regarding the quality of education and the value on the job market, I feel like, in my current situation, I will get the highest ROI from an ENEB MBA. Employers here won't know either of these schools and whether I have an MBA from UoPeople, Eastern University, or ENEB will probably make such a small difference that it doesn't make up for the price difference.

Now regarding ENEB:

As I understood it: I could sign up for the ENEB MBA for something like 260 Euros via the ambassador link. Then I would get access to the courses and could start studying.

If I want the test version of the MBA, I need to pay something like 400 Euros. If I just do the assignments, there seem to be no additional costs.

1. I read that some people joined eneb without a completed bachelors degree, so can I just buy the program and start now, as long as I finish the MBA after I completed my BSc in BA ?

2. If I just buy the ambassador link and work through the courses and assignments until I finished them all, I can then choose to buy an official transcript and degree certificate from Universidad Isabel 1, right?

3. So, ultimately, I would just pay the 260 Euros + maybe 300-500 Euros for the transcript and Isabel 1 degree, or are there any other costs I should plan for if I do the assignment based version?

4. If it ever becomes relevant to me in the future, this transcript and Isabel 1 degree could then be sent to a US evaluation agency to obtain RA graduate credit that I could transfer into a US MBA program, or is that not possible anymore?

5. In addition to this: within the European Union, ENEB credits count as official credits for a masters degree, just the degree itself does not count as a masters degree, so if I would like to do a masters program in the EU I could potentially use these 60 ECTS as well?

6. How much time do I have to complete the ENEB MBA ? If I don't manage to do it in this time (for example because my graduation from UoPeople somehow takes longer), what would be the price to extend my study period?

---

I hope someone here digged through all of the ENEB discussion and is willing to help me, so I can understand all of these details and make the right decision.

  Computer Science Degree Help
Posted by: Ad Nauseam - 04-19-2024, 11:23 PM - Forum: WGU - Western Governors University Discussion - Replies (5)

Hello everyone,

I made a thread here a few days ago inquiring about a teaching degree, but after speaking to a counselor and some friends, I believe I should do computer science instead. luckily my thread wasn’t responded to yet. I studied HTML, CSS, and JavaScript full time for about 6 months, but also have some limited knowledge of Java from the Helsinki course. Yet to be completed, but I believe working in the back end is much more suited to me. Below I’ll post the addendum with my info.

https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/WG...egree_Plan This is the path I plan to take. I also called WGU and started my enrollment. Am I supposed to do that now or later since there’s so much SDC and Sophia left to do? I’m looking into aid as well. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Your Location: Hawaii(Oahu), United States.
Your Age: 27
What kind of degree do you want?: I’d like a career as a software engineer. As stated above, I have some knowledge to work with already. Conditionals, loops, ASYNCHRONOUS/await, event delegation, etc. I completed all of the courses by Jonas Schmedtman and created all the projects. I do think I’d like it better working in the back end though as design is not really for me. Maybe working with SQL databases would be better. In any case, I’d be looking to learn more Java and overall computer science topics.
Current Regional Accredited Credits: None.

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:

Sophia Credits: 24
Ancient Greek Philosophers, 3, 100%

English Composition 1, 3, 89%
Introduction to Business, 3, 88%
Introduction to Ethics, 3, 88%
Introduction to Information Technology, 3, 83%
Introduction to Nutrition, 3, 93%
Introduction to Sociology, 3, 92%
Introduction to Web Development, 3, 83%

Any certifications or military experience? None.

Budget: I have about $5k saved, but my expenses are very low since I catch the bus, live in a cheaper area, and don’t ever spend money on anything. I invested a good amount of money into original magic art, but have slowed down almost to a stop recently as I have a decently large inventory. That being said, I can afford to be a lot more flexible here. My monthly discretionary income is around $1500. I’d like to finish as soon as I can. That’s my number one priority, but if the cost would be a lot more while only saving me a small amount of time, I’d save the money instead. I like the idea of WGU allowing you to blow through as many credits as you can in a semester. My budget and schedule would work well with that.

Commitments: I work full time, but that’s it. I have plenty of time left in the day after work as it’s only half my day.

Dedicated time to study: I think a reasonable amount of study for me would be 40 hours per week across 7 days. I used to study Vanilla JavaScript more than that weekly for 6 months, so I know I can commit the time.

Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal. However long this will take is fine with me.

Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None. I’ve gotten student aid before, but I was 19 years old and flunked out. Just wasn’t ready back then. I had no goals and wasn’t focused. Not sure if I can get anymore aid after that.

I like the idea of testing out. Most of the Sophia courses I’ve taken were finished the same day or in a few days. I don’t think there’s a class out there that would require me to spend months and months on learning the material. I’m also okay with assignments and assessments too. English comp had me write a bunch of papers. I’m also 90% of the way through public speaking which also had me do projects.

minimum age for UMPI students YourPace
Posted by: EducationSeeker - 04-19-2024, 11:20 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (6)

Hello,

I am wondering what stipulations my youngeer son who will be 18 in a month would have to meet in order to attend UMPI? I heard that students under 20 can request to be admitted on a special case basis provided they have some college credit? He missed the deadline for Youngstown State University for College Credit Plus (dual enrollment program in Ohio), but, he is looking at trying to get accepted for other courses at Kent State University with online classes for either Fall, 2024 or Spring, 2025. Is it recommended to take courses through an RA degree program or state online community colleges like Lorain Community College or Columbus State College? Additionally, it is advisable to take over RA classes over providers like Sophia, Study.com, etc?

He is pursuing an Aviation Maintenance program in his STEM high school and looking to take coursework at Kent State University or another in-state school in Ohio that has an aviation 4 yr bachelor degree program. He has some interest in the Air Force National Guard this path would pay for all of his tuition and give him some good experience working on military aircraft.

He has zero credits right now and we are hoping to utilize free dual enrollment classes to get low cost or free credit.

Thanks

UMPI YourPace BLS w/ Management Minor Reference Plan
Posted by: valentvne - 04-19-2024, 05:48 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (10)

Hello all! Firstly, I want to thank everyone who posts on this forum because it is the reason I have been able to complete my bachelor's degree in 4 months! The semester is ongoing, but I've managed to finish ahead of the May 3rd closing date. This is my first post here, so I am living proof that just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist, meaning: I have been referencing this site for well over a year as my #1 guide for fast-tracking my bachelor's yet remained anonymous the whole way through. MANY people (including those I've referred to here) are using this forum to change their lives without posting, so please keep it going! My contribution will be a comprehensive reference guide for completing your BLS with a Management Minor in the YourPace program at UMPI. Let's get started!

UMPI BLS W/ MANAGEMENT MINOR REFERENCE PLAN

GEC = General Education Curriculum | UMPI has 5 types of GEC's which I have color-coordinated, and within each type there are Levels A, B, C, D & E which I have also marked. This was the most confusing part of creating my plan, so I hope it is clear enough to help others.

UL = UL Elective | Stands for "Upper Level," meaning courses that are not 300/400 ranked instead of 100/200. Think English 301 versus English 101. Also confused me when I planned.

Milestone = A stopgap between lessons where you have to submit an assignment of some kind (Quiz, Essay, etc) ranking your understanding of the coursework. This does not count toward your final grade, but you must receive a 3/4 level grade of understanding for the final assessment to become available to you for submission.

Final Assessment = Your final assignment that determines your overall grade in the class. You will be graded on a 3/4 scale like your Milestones, but based on my research, a number grade is supposed to replace that ranking system on your official transcript after classes are over. Correct me if wrong in the replies, please.

Began With
  • 21 Accepted Transfer Credits from university classes dating back to 2014/2015 , 6 Classes transferred altogether (this indicates UMPI will accept credits dating as far back as 10+ years, a common worry)

*I will post text in the replies of this thread for those who can not see the following attachments

______________

Outside of BUS 321 & BUS 415, the UL courses I took were all very fast to complete, because 1 I was privileged enough not to have to work to complete my degree & 2 They had 2-3 Milestones of 300-500 word responses each, with the final always being a 1500 word essay.

Dr. Zaborney has the reputation for quickest and most lenient grader, which I concur with. He only graded about 2 of my POS (Political Science) classes - all from one day to the next. The rest of my POS classes were graded by Dr. Hinson, who is also fantastically quick (one day to the next, even on weekends). Hinson, however, is a more erratic grader. He is ANAL about answering Milestone/Final Assessment prompts pointedly. His responses to submissions, whether concise or on the longer side, are super clear though. You do what he asks and you'll pass. I did have to email my academic advisor about a response he gave that I felt was unfair (gave me 2/4 when I was averaging 4/4 in all my classes) - this was just to cover my ass with a paper trail in case his final marks screwed my chance for a degree. As someone who has worked in vastly different spaces (hospitals, private practices, luxury sales, pro wrestling, sports, etc) I highly recommend keeping a paper trail of everything that piques your senses. It always comes back in the end, so make sure to take screenshots and forward all important messages to your personal email account.

I found my time in Your Pace to be less difficult than Sophia, but that's because I'm a writer and can crank out papers like a machine. When studying on Sophia, ctrl + f is your best friend. Always start with the end in mind. Don't diddy daddle reading info you'll learn on the job when you have real life draining most of your energy and time. Read the question, ctrl + f to find the answer directly and keep it pushing. If you have to read to find answers, obviously do that. But otherwise? Cut to the chase. Google is a tool. Perplexity Ai is an incredible study tool for amassing sourced information. Chat GPT is the essay outlining GOAT.

If it helps, I received 4/4 in all of my UMPI courses. On Sophia I have received nothing lower than an 85%. With a 1 month break in February as I waited for classes to start, it took me a total of 3 months to complete my bachelor's degree beginning in December with 21 credits completed.

View attached to go over my degree audit yourselves.

Any questions and I'll be happy to help. Cheers!

Hi Everyone,
Can anyone point me to a link that explains what the Math GE courses are that I need as part of the GEC requirements at UMPI? I’m working exclusively with Sophia.org to transfer n credits to UMPI. I want to make sure I’m taking only the necessary minimum amount of courses related to math. As you can probably tell, I am not a fan of math! Thx! Smile

I found it. Sorry guys! https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UM...quivalents

Question Pierpont BOG AAS - AoE Graphics Technology
Posted by: Aikuroa - 04-19-2024, 03:02 PM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi there,

My brother is looking to pursue a degree in arts or design, potentially at SNHU. However, his first step is obtaining his Pierpont BOG Associates with an area of emphasis in Graphics Technology. Would Xamk's Introduction to Video Games Creation course help fulfill the 15 credits required for the area of emphasis? Also, we're curious about other courses that could fulfill these requirements.

Thank you for any advice you can offer.
