Sophia Scores, Speed, and Transferring to UMPI
Posted by: colonelcamp - 04-23-2024, 10:00 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (16)

Hi,

Does anyone know if UMPI, or any university that accepts Sophia credits, looks at the score of the Sophia course before accepting the credits via transfer? I've got 20 creidts so far and all of my scores are in the 90s, except one where I got an 89%. I wonder if I got like an 80% on a course, if UMPI would reject the credits.

Thanks

question on Ohio University accepting Sophia credits
Posted by: EducationSeeker - 04-23-2024, 09:58 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (7)

My younger son is a High School Junior and looking to get dual enrollment credit High School/University credit before he either goes to a traditional University program or an online program. He is going through an Aircraft Maintenance program his last 2 years of High School and will be able to get his A&P maintenance certificate. I believe he can transfer this A&P certificate for 45 credits into an Associates program. He is looking at an aviation/aeronautical engineering program.

For traditional universities, he is looking at Embry Riddle, Ohio State, Eastern New Mexico, Middle Georgia State University, and Kent State University (online program) for Aviation Maintenance. One option would be to work full time and then take an online program. Another option would be to attend school full time and get his Bachelor's degree. He is looking at the Ohio Air National Guard as they will pay 100% of tuition.

Regarding getting Sophia credit, does anyone know if Ohio University will accept Sophia.org credits? I did not see Ohio Univ listed on the partner pages so I planned on calling or emailing OU Admissions to confirm they will take Sophia. I believe they will take Straighterline and CLEP. Most of the traditional community colleges in Ohio are more expensive now being $180 or more for in state residents so we are looking for cheap credit sources like Sophia or CLEP if he doesn't make the deadline for the 2024-2025 school year through Kent State.

Thanks,

Big Grin Rudisill v. McDonough

  • The court ruled 7-2 in Rudisill v. McDonough that servicemembers who, through separate periods of service, accrue benefits under both the Post-9/11 Veterans Act and the Montgomery GI Bill, can use either one, in any order, up to a 48-month aggregate cap.

  Finish Degree for CFP Marks
Posted by: Cfp417 - 04-23-2024, 02:27 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (22)

Hi, I’m a financial advisor that just recently passed the CFP exam. One of the requirements is a college degree. I’m needing help seeing what will be the quickest route in getting this done. I work 25-35 hours a week but can make time to finish this degree. I dropped out of college after getting 114 hours. Wasn’t the smartest thing at the time but worked out. I run a successful practice and have the funds to finish.

BS IT - TESU or Purdue
Posted by: ChickenEnjoyer - 04-23-2024, 10:01 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (1)

Your Location: Switzerland
Your Age: 25
What kind of degree do you want?: BS Information Technology
Current Regional Accredited Credits: to Complete UMPI BABA PM&I in October

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:

Sophia: Ancient Greek Philosohpers, Art History I, Business Ethics, Calculus I, Conflict Resolution, Critical Thinking, English Composition I, Environmental Science, Financial Accounting, Human Biology, Human Biology Lab, Introduction to Business, Introduction to Ethics, Introduction to Nutrition, Introduction to Sociology, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Project Management, U.S. Government, U.S. History I, Workplace Writing II

Any certifications?
Google IT Support Professional, Google Data Analytics Professional, Google Project Management, IBM Data Analysis & Visualization Foundations, ACTFL German Superior

Budget: 5000$

Situation:

Hi, I currently have an unforeseen delay in my start of my UMPI term, so now I have 2 months empty I would like to fill with degree preparation for another degree for later this year. I think a BS Information Technology would be fitting for my later career goals and improve chances for my long term goal of full remote work. I scouted out TESU and Purdue for this as they seem to be the options that take the most Sophia credit. I wanted to ask for assistance with making the best decision, my goal for this plan is to complete it as fast as possible. TESU requires RA credit and I am not sure if my UMPI degree will deliver enough of that, as I use a huge portion of Sophia for it. Bjcheung77 already helped me understand that I can only start at TESU with RA credit completed. It seems unlikely I can fit a whole degree in these two months due to that, but I would still like doing certifications/additional Ace credit these two months to complete a degree after the UMPI degree.

Thank you!

Study.com charged me another month without my consent
Posted by: Livia_Drusila - 04-23-2024, 09:05 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, Sophia.Org, Coursera Discussion - Replies (8)

I know this is how it works now, and I feel so stupid. But I put my debit card information in for a month's worth of the "College Saver" plan and assumed it would ask for permission if I wanted to renew for another month. However it just automatically charged me another $235. I have no use for the website anymore as I already completed the course that I meant to take (and I also didn't enjoy their material, which I thought was very poorly written and full of redundant examples that made it a chore for me to read).

Did I just lose $235? It's been two days since it renewed automatically. Is there anything I can do to dispute the charge?

ENEB to UK top up masters possible?
Posted by: Atoshi - 04-23-2024, 07:18 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (3)

Is it possible to convert an ENEB degree to a UK master's degree? I would like to start my masters journey with ENEB and later transfer the credit to a good university. I am just wondering if it's even an option. I can't apply for a government loan in Australia yet, so I am looking for an affordable degree option. Can’t wait to start my education journey all over again.

Hello,

I wonder if I need to get a score of 50 on the test and there are 80 questions; that means that I would need to get 40 or more right to pass. not 50 or more right?

Hope that someone can answer me!

Choosing the Right PhD Program Education / Hospitality (online)
Posted by: Frost87b3 - 04-23-2024, 03:54 AM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (5)

Hello everyone Smile ,

I'm looking to start my PhD journey and need some advice on choosing the right program that fits my situation. I've been delaying this for too long and am ready to begin as soon as possible.

So far my best option is a PhD in education from Manipal Nxt university.

Below is a summary of my background and what I'm looking for in a PhD program:

Your Location: Switzerland / Italy

Your Age: 36

What kind of degree do you want?: PhD (No DBA, no Professional Doctorates) in either education, eLearning, or tourism/hospitality-related field. I'm open to suggestion (like something related to sustainability that i can match with hospitality)

Current Regional Accredited Credits: I have a BSc with honors from Italy (180 ECTS Credits), an MSc in food science from the UK (180 ECTS Credits), a PGcert in Higher Education from a UK university (60 ECTS), and another UK undergraduate degree worth 20 ECTS Credits.

Any certifications or military experience? No

Budget: I have a maximum budget of $20-25K over 5 years. I'd like to go the cheapest route possible but will consider spending more for good recognition.

Commitments: I currently work full-time as a teacher in a private school (hospitality related) and can work on my studies part-time or in the evenings/weekends.

Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as is needed.

Timeline: 3 to a maximum of 4 years would be ideal.

Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Payment in installments would be ideal.

Travel: I can travel 1-2 times during the 3-4 years of the degree if necessary, but I'd prefer not to.

Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for helping me navigate this decision!

Hello,
Can a high school student in 11th and 12th grade receive automatic credit acceptance from institutions like Excelsior if they complete all college general education requirements at Sophia for instance?
Is it possible for this student to start in 9th grade?
Many Thanks,
