Posted by: Kiwi Lover - 05-24-2007, 06:32 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (2)

I thought I read on one of the threads something about Excelsior giving credit for work experience....or am I just seeing things?? Rolleyes

If they do, does anyone know how that works? I am assuming it would have to be related to your major, right??

I'm just curious...

Thanks.

  DSST Testing question
Posted by: nwbo - 05-24-2007, 04:54 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

The DSST I've taken to date was a paper version. I'm taking two in the next week that are the Internet Based version.....I think the scoring is instantly reported, correct? If so, is it similar to the CLEP tests where a score report is generated and provided to the student?

  Humanities-I PASSED!
Posted by: Lobos10 - 05-24-2007, 04:41 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (10)

Hi all! I just took my Humanities CLEP test and passed. As with my prior test of Here's to your Health...i just barely passed!! But hey the fact that I passed is just great. So I only need 3 more units in Science to be done with My BS in Criminal Justice. In case anyone is taking the test anytime soon, I just studied the IC flashcards and tried to look up the ones I got wrong on Wikipedia, which was also a great tool. I purchased the CLEP general exam book but after taking the pre-test I realized that it was out dated (2005). My advice would be constant review of IC flashcards and seperate the authors, poets, and artists in their seperate centuries. Also know a couple of the art and literary movements (i.e. fauvism, cubism, dadaism). I would also say to know what certain plays are about (Hamlet, Macbeth) and certain books (Cant. Tales, Great Gatsby). That is all I can think of. Good luck to those of you who are studying to take the test. The Peterson's practice test was harder than the real test but I am glad I took it and studied from it. It helped.Smile

  Labor Relations

Well, I studied all the IC flashcards to where I knew them and the answer to about a 95% accuracy like I have always done in the past. If I had any questions, I referred over to some notes given to me by Kiwilover. I thought I was doing really well on the test until I scored my exam. A big "D" popped up on my screen. Personally, I do not believe that IC is enough to pass my version of the exam.

Kiwilover's review was helpful, but it seems that my exam differed from hers. I had numerous scenario questions in regards to arbitrators and the NLRB. These questions would ask to determine the correct action by the arbitrator or the NLRB. Its hard to decide if they would side with the union, the employer, or go back to the bargaining table.

All in all, I was a little shook up that I didn't pass, but I had planned to take the actual class this summer with my B&M school to be on the safe side. So now, I need to more actual courses at my school to graduate and 9 more hours of upper division elective hours. So let me ask everyone, what is a good upper division DANTES or ECE that will bring back my confidence? I have already taken Org Behavior and Money and Banking. MIS doesnt count at my school as upper division. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Anyone interested in doing the Myspace page for InstantCert?
Posted by: sgloer - 05-24-2007, 01:56 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (8)

Off Topic, I know--I'll move it soon! Smile

Several people have pushed the idea of starting a Myspace page for InstantCert. Anyone out there want to volunteer to take charge of this and make it happen?

I don't have much experience with MySpace; I have no idea what a company page on myspace would look like, and what it would accomplish.

If this is something you'd be interested in doing--creating the account, putting together the page, and anything else involved, please post a response here or send me a PM.

Please include a few details indicating why you would be able to do a good job. Obviously, the page needs to communicate a good/professional impression of InstantCert.

Hypothetically, once this page is done, we'll poll the members of this forum to see what everyone thinks and possibly implement some suggestions, changes, etc..

  Working with an advisor
Posted by: hsing - 05-24-2007, 12:11 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

What level of counsel/advice is it possible to receive from an advisor without enrolling?

If I am uncertain as to which of the Big 3 I should enroll with, do you recommend submitting an application to both? How will that be helpful?

At what point will they evaluate your credits?

At what point and to what degree will they help you design a degree path?

How receptive are they to helping you design a path that is 90% testing and not just comprehensively taking their own classes?

How much of the process is just you on your own trying to figure out what you need and then asking them if it will count?

Thanks!

  Excelsior - waiting period
Posted by: Matymus - 05-24-2007, 09:53 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (20)

Can anybody tell me how long they had to wait for their transcript evaluation?? EC rec'd my last transcript on 5/14. I called at the end of last week just to get an idea of how long it would take...a lady told me that my evaluation should be completed by Monday, 5/21. Well, it's now 5/24 & still no dice. I'm just a tad impatient--can't ya' tell?! I just really want a better idea of how long I'll be waiting.

Any info will help! Thanks!

Military Members, What would be your "dream job" in the service?
Posted by: G-Man - 05-24-2007, 09:10 AM - Forum: Military Discussion - Replies (14)

This is to all you out there who have military experience. As I mentioned in a previous post, my nephew wants to join the navy. But it seems like you never find out what the really good jobs are until you've actually been in a while. Then one day you see a somebody else in uniform with a certain job and say "Man, I wish I'd picked that when I signed up." So, here's the question, if you could pick any military job, what would it be and why. Thanks in advance for all your feedback!
