This thread will really help new students, as well as those looking to boost their GPA, if everybody participates.

Criteria:
1) Must have only used IC to prepare
2) Must have scored at least a 60.
3) There is one exception. Please include pass grades on the 6 credit general exams like college math, humanities, etc., if you passed them using IC exclusively.

Here are mine. Scores of 60+ using only IC.

Here's to Your Helath 64
Criminal Justice 60
Fundamentals of Counseling 63
Managemnt Information Systems 63
Principles of Management 70

Posted by: engarom - 01-29-2007, 01:42 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (8)

Hello,
I was going to enroll at Excelsior and cant seem to confirm if they are Title IV or not. I am not sure if my job will pay if they are not. Anyone know about this? Also if you are a UPS employee did they pay for Excelsior?
Thanks

English Comp w/ essay -> TESC -> Excelsior?
Posted by: robb3369 - 01-28-2007, 04:50 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

I have about 30 or so FEMA exams complete, which I planned to credit bank at TESC. I'd like to take the English Comp w/ Essay CLEP exam and add that to the credit bank as well...

Question is, will TESC convert the CLEP exam to English 101 and 102? So that if the transcript was then sent to Excelsior, they will accept as is (and satisfy the WER) or would they force me to do the ECE English Comp exam...

My Background on the issue:
I've applied to COSC so they can review my "collage" of college credit earned when I was in the Marines (also attended several Navy and Air Force schools), the numerous IT certifications and even a few programming courses... The FEMA exams were done to cover CEUs for my membership with the American College of Forensic Examiners (I do computer security and forensics on the side, not the way cool CSI stuff you see on tv Big Grin, although I'd be open to the Criminal Justice track)

But after finding this forum, I'm a bit perplexed on what to do. I know I need the CLEP core tests, but am waiting eagerly to hear back from COSC on what my first degree can be in the shortest amount of time. Any comments would be appreciated...

  Advice
Posted by: venturap - 01-28-2007, 02:31 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (10)

Hello to all. I am a new member of IC and was hoping to get some valuable advice. Unfortunately, I put myself in an unenviable position that requires me to obtain 12 credits within the next two weeks. Listed below are the CLEP exams I am studying for, and in the order I believe I should be taking them, but I'm not sure if this is the "right/optimum" order:

Psychology, Intro - 3 credits
Sociology, Intro - 3 credits
Human Growth & Development - 3 credits
Social Sciences & History - 6 credits

Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks.

  Questions on Paper
Posted by: DaughterofMusic - 01-28-2007, 12:52 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Is there a way on IC that we can print out the flashcards so we have the info on paper? I'm at college and have a lot of dead hours and I was thinking that if I could take these with me than I could study without internet access while I'm waiting for classes.

  Soltran - Math Question
Posted by: steelers - 01-27-2007, 04:30 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

You mentioned that you only studied for 2 weeks for the college math using the following:

InstantCert
CLEP Official Study Guide 18th Edition
Cracking the CLEP 4th edition
REA - CLEP General Exams with CD

1) Would you say that all of these resources were necessary to pass (50) or could you eliminate some of them?

2) How deep did you study each one?

How many of the following did you use in addition to IC to recieve an A? I don't want to study all of these, in addition to IC, if it is not neceassary.

For Those that Have Taken UL Psych Exams...Is IC Enough for A Grade???
Posted by: steelers - 01-27-2007, 04:14 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

1) From what I gather IC is adequate to score an A at Excelsior on the following. Would you all agree?:

Adulthood & Aging (combined with IC Gerontology material)
Research Methods (IC alone)

2) However, additional material may be needed to score an A on Gerontology (IC Adulthood & Aging material, IC Gerontolgy material, plus another supplement) and Abnormal Psych. It appears that a B may be more the norm for these two exams without additional material. Would those that have taken these agree?

3) For those that scored an A on Gerontology what other material did you use besides IC?

For All Those that Have Taken Stats...Is IC Enough to Pass???
Posted by: steelers - 01-27-2007, 03:59 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

I have already read the other posts regarding stats. Because this exam appears to provide quite a bit of anxiety for most I thought it would be a good idea to summarize what we have learned from the the other posts in this thread. What is the minimum needed to pass and the amount nedded to ace it.

1) Is IC (stats material and stats part of the clep material) adequate to pass stats, or is the Idiot's Guide to Stats neceassary for a pass?

2) If neceassary, how long does it take to go through the Idiot's guide for those that have? I noticed it was like 400 pages long.

3) It also appears that the Idiot's guide is far more useful then any of the other study guides (dummies guide, etc.). Would you all agree?

Like many here I have not taken a math class in close to 20 years and I was horrible at it then. However, I have to pass this thing for a Psych degree. One IC memeber scored a 75 using IC, the Idiot's Guide and a bunch of online videos (which I have neither the time or patience to watch). I would be happy with a score 20 points less (55)!!!
