  Here's to your health
Posted by: metzfam98@yahoo.com - 01-11-2007, 11:42 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (7)

Just passed my first CLEP today- US History I with a 52.

Looking at taking HTYH next, DSST lists it as a science class. Does anyone have experience with this being accepted as such? What would an equivilent class be?

Thanks for the help

  excelsior BSB undergrad
Posted by: Ronin - 01-11-2007, 01:25 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

I just passed American Government with a 67! Thanks IC.

I orginally planned to test out of Excelsior's liberal arts program, but I noticed that you can complete their BSB program completely through testing also. My intent is to finish the undergrad as fast as possible so I can start my MBA with my employer, because it is free. Is anyone in the process or successfully tested out of the BSB program? Did any hiccups happen a long the way?

  Principles of Management and Supervision
Posted by: B2MANLEY - 01-11-2007, 10:37 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

For those have taken both the CLEP Principles of Management and DANTES Principles of Supervision, how much overlap and redundency is there between the two i.e. If you are prepared for Management, take it and pass, is it fair to say you could pass Supervision as well only using the DSST Handbook and IC?

I am planning to take these two and then Organizational Behavior, Intro to Business, and Principles of Marketing. I am trying to group together closely related exams.

My plan is to schedule Management first, and then schedule Supervision the following week, using the time in between to syudy the Supervision IC flashcards and handbook. Does this sound like a good approach?

Any advice would be much appreciated...

Are there any other pre test sites or materials for this test? I see Finish College Fast - Pass Your Clep Tests - Guaranteed! has a study guide but from previous experience with other exams I know it alone is not enough.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse vs. Human Growth and Development
Posted by: upgradelately - 01-10-2007, 06:37 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

After I take DSST Here's to Your Health tomorrow, I will only have 1 test remaining. Smile
The problem is that I will only have 5 days to study for this final test. The choices that I have are DSST Drug and Alcohol Abuse or CLEP Human Growth and Development.

Which test is easier? What would you take?
Any tips for either test?

Thanks,
Shawn

Passed Research Methods-IC is more than sufficient
Posted by: adoncia - 01-10-2007, 05:19 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (13)

I can't believe i got an A on this one.I was hoping to barely pass.
I have posted a new thread for this because i know very few here have prepared for Research methods using IC...because the IC guide came out just recently in December.I want everyone to know that IC is more than sufficient to pass this exam. You will not need anything else.
I studied for 4 days and used only Instantcert.
The exam is doable and does not require too much time with IC.
Thanks Stevehilarious
Only 5 more to go before i complete my Bachelors but i want to take a break.I feel exhausted alreadyRolleyes

  Passed Biology
Posted by: poindexter - 01-10-2007, 01:01 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (8)

I been watching these forums for awhile now and thought I should give my feedback in regards to the Biology Clep exam. I got a scaled score of 58 which is a pass. This is my first Clep test. This test was really hard. A lot harder then I thought it would be. The difficulty level I was expecting was somewhere in between the Peterson’s exams and Official College Board’s exam. This test was more difficult then both of them. Many of the questions were not in any of the study material I used. I think there is a very big question pool or they changed the exam, and if your lucky you will get some basic questions but if not, you will get hit hard with many difficult questions. I ran out of time and had to guess on seven questions and also had to guess on a lot of questions that were unfamiliar. I spent over a month studying. Probably a couple hours every day. If I was to start over not knowing what material to study, I would get a college biology book, read it then go through the REA book then practice the moc exams and IC. I had no biology background and am sure that other people will be able to pass with enough study time.

The study material I used is:

REA Book-It is a good primer that barely gives you enough knowledge to pass the test. There is a lot of question on the actual exam that this book does not cover. The questions in the back of the book are not realistic regarding the difficulty level of the actual exam.. I do not recall seeing any of their practice questions on the real exam. However I do recommend this book.

Peterson’s Test- I took all three of their tests and scored over 65 percent on them. The difficulty level for the Peterson’s test is slightly easier or comparable to the real exam. I seen some information I learned from the Peterson’s test on the real exam.

Official Study Guide-These questions were easier then the actual exam however the structure of the questions were similar to the actual exam, I only saw one or two questions that worded differently on the real exam

IC- I did not go through all of the questions. However I did learn from the question I did take. I think it is a good additional study aid.

Standard Deviant Biology Video-I thought this video was good, kind of strange but good for reinforcing the information you retained from reading the REA book and other sources.

My next test will be Natural Science next week. I hope that test will not be as hard as Biology.

  Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
Posted by: DHammond - 01-09-2007, 11:12 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Check! Whoohoo again! I got a wild hair tonight (about 4:30pm) and decided to go take the 6 hour Literature CLEP, without studying. I read all the stuff here on the forum, and thought I could pull it off, having taken two reasonably hard Lit. Classes at CTC and KSU. So I signed in at 7:20pm, and signed out at 8:20pm with 6 more Semester Hours!!!!

I only passed with a 56, but that was six more than I actually needed, and I'm just thankful for the credit. The test was not difficult, and I had no questions on anything but analyzing and interpreting different pieces of literature - no definitions, no terms, just poems, plays, stories, exerpts etc., then a q like: what did the word "loom" mean in line 5, or who was the author speaking to when he said, "the rock" in line 16.

If you're a slow reader I can see how the time could crunch you a little, but I managed to cram the whole thing down in 52 minutes.

Definetly plan on taking this CLEP if it will fit into your degree plan - I'd say it's easier than some average 3 SH tests.

  Beware Peterson's Accounting practice...
Posted by: AMPawlak227 - 01-09-2007, 09:58 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

I discovered today that the Peterson's mock tests for Accounting have contradictory information. I was struggling in my studies for this exam and decided to print out the Peterson's tests so that I could study them away from my PC (I'm very sorry for killing a tree, but the 6 credits were my priority). I was doing some last minute reviewing tonight and the pages were shuffled into a different order than normal. It turns out that some questions are identical in tests 1, 2, & 3 - but different answers are given. Major relief to me - some of that wrong info had me feel like I was losing my mind!! I took the test a few minutes later and stuck with what seemed like the right answer - instead of what Peterson's had been trying to convince me was right. I ended with a 62. Big Grin

  DSST v. CLEP
Posted by: nynavey - 01-09-2007, 09:26 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

I've taken 5 CLEP exams, and one DSST exam. The DSST exam was by far easier than any of the CLEPs, but it could be the subject matter (Here's to Your Health was the DSST exam).

I pose this question to those who have more testing experience than I:

Is there any generalization between the two types of tests, and if so, which tend to be easier?

Are DSST exams, on the whole, more difficult than CLEP exams, or vice versa?

Any input is appreciated.
