CLEPS and this site |

Hello all,
I'm getting ready to take my first CLEPs in a little while (aiming for the College Mathematics and Humanities to start), and I'm wondering how well do the questions on this site represent the difficulty of the CLEPs? If it's at all comparable, then I feel I'm in pretty good shape.
I have the "Cracking the CLEPS" and the CLEPS general advice book(can't recall exactly what it's called) on order right now and they should be arriving shortly.
Also, on the advice of a member of this board (you know who you are!), I'm wondering whether anyone here is going the all test route with Excelsior College and more specifically, aiming for a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. If so, anything you could tell me about your process would be of great help. I have a general outline of tests that I want to take, but I want to make sure that it fits the all the requirements.
Thanks in advance to all who reply!
~Terry

Hi all,
Been doing a lot of reading, and I'm sure that the question I'm about to pose has been addressed a couple of times, but here goes....
I had the Army National Guard Educational Support Center evaluate my military and civilian credits a couple of years ago, and they came back with a degree program plan from both Excelsior and TESC. I'm trying to decide which program to complete.
I already have a A.S. degree through the Air Force. The Excelsior / TESC programs came back with 72 / 62 credits completed toward a B.S. I've taken a few CLEPs and DANTES tests since then so I'm up to something like 81 /83 credits. (Some tests don't apply to the Excelsior degree.)
I'm leaning somewhat toward the Excelsior degree just due to the fact that I can test out of everything. If I complete the TESC degree I'm going to have to take pre-calculus and calculus (need 6 credits). My CLEP college algebra won't cover it. I can test out of everyting else.
The Excelsior degree doesn't appear to zero in on my profession where the TESC degree does (I'm an electrician).
I will have to take the upper level tests to complete the Excelsior degree, whereas I won't have to take any of them to complete the TESC degree. I'm not particularly worried about the tests, but maybe I would be better off taking pre-calculus and calculus at the local community college rather than studying for numerous upper level tests.
Also, I'm not sure about costs, all of the tests will be free for me (I'm in the military) so that's not a concern.
Any insights on which path would be the best for me? Any comments on the colleges, difficulty of upper level tests, suefulness of the individual degrees, etc.?
Thanks.

OK - here's the situation, what would you do...
If you have a CLEP scheduled for Thursday - today's Tuesday at 11PM - and you know that if you cancel it, you can't get another test date until June (which you want to avoid) however, the exam you're scheduled to take, you don't feel ready for AT ALL (principles of accounting).
Would you:
a. Take it anyway and pray?
b. Try to cram for another exam and take it on Thursday instead? Choices on this are social science and history or human growth and development.
Oh, and you've got a sinus infection with fever.
In all seriousness, this is my current situation, any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm thinking of taking the Petersons human growth practice test tonight to see how I do... maybe go from there...

What do you want to do with your degree? Most of us probably have some reason for wanting our degree (promotion, graduate school, family pressure to get an education, a job in a field).
My reasons: Virtually every career I've ever considered requires a degree. I'm working toward law school, which requires a degree first. Of course, there are other issues too. Even if I never went to law school, I would want a degree just because it looks good on a resume. It's expected. Plus, I simply enjoy learning.
What is motivating you to pursue your degree?

So seriously, how much of principles of accounting can I blow off and still make a 50? I'm so burned out and I have 6 exams left - home stretch - and I'm starting to think if i ignore half of the mgt accounting part and just know I'm going to get those wrong I can probably still pass.
It's playing with fire, I know, but it could end up being a worthy gamble... what do y'all think? Go for it (skip some)? Or suck it up, quit whinning and just do the work?

I just completed the final exam for Information Literacy (98/100), and thought I'd provide my insights. I started the course on 5/1 and completed the course (the final exam is 100% of your grade) today, 5/6. Basically, I printed EVERYTHING in the course content sections, went thru the course modules twice, took the module quizes until I had 100% of each one and used them as study aids. I read over the required reading once, and took the exam. You will have 1 1/2 hours to complete it, and of course you can use all notes. I had them laid out in 5 stacks, one for each module. I went thru the exam questions and answered the questions, then went back and reviewed each one against my printed notes. I still had more than 1/2 hour remaining when I finished. As others have pointed out, this is an easy exam- nothing compared to any CLEP or DSST exam- read over the info, print it out for reference- and I believe that it would be virtually impossible to fail this one!

I need to share this with all the other math phobics out there. In the process of looking for a summer shool statistics class I happened upon THE ALEKS system. Essentially it is an enhanced computer AI math tutuor. I pay 19.99 a month and the system evaluates current abilities and creates a pie chart of where you stand mathematically. It won't allow you to progress until you show neccesary mastery. You can do the work online and print out reinforcement quizzes etc., I have been saved! I hope it helps! http://www.aleks.com
