  Passed Civil War
Posted by: Nodean - 04-27-2006, 01:24 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

I just received my score and was pleasantly surprised with a 62! It took 15 days for the score to arrive. I used instancert, watched Ken Burns special and read about half of Mcpherson's civil war and reconstruction text. I believe I would have passed using only Instantcert but would recommend the Ken Burns special for entertainment value as well as reinforcement. Intro to Ed, Intro to business law and statistics and I'm done !!!!

  Textbook Prices
Posted by: Nodean - 04-27-2006, 11:01 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (2)

I just signed up for a summer school anatomy class and the textbook was $150! I almost passed out. I haven't bought a textbook in awhile so I was shocked. Anyone know of any cheap internet sites that they have had luck with? I'm not against buying used if its in good condition.

  DSST Fundamentals of Counseling
Posted by: libartsmgr - 04-26-2006, 11:04 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (24)

If anyone has taken this one already, I'd really appreciate any feedback. I'm planning this one for next week and would really like to hear other's thoughts on it. I'm hoping it's not more difficult than it seems.
To date, there doesn't seem to be any discussion around this exam other than a couple mentions of intending to take it.

Thanks!

Labor Relations ECE Exam for upper level credit
Posted by: tampalizard - 04-26-2006, 01:40 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

Hello all,
I just finished the test in Labor relations so I wanted to let you know what I found. Since there is little specific study material, it was difficult to decide what to concentrate on. The following topics seemed to weigh heavily on the version I took...

"Good faith" bargaining
The role of the National Labor Relations Board in dispute resolution.
The difference and actions of Wagner act and all the amending acts.
Differences between a private and a public sector union and the difference in rules governing them.
Mediation vs Arbitration
Rules of arbitration
The "chain of command" for dispute settlement within the union
Rules for attempting to organize a union and the employers rights when it comes to opposing a union.

As far as preparing for the test....I used the ECE study guide from the Excelsior site and pulled up the major outline subjects on Wikipedia.I also looked at the sections and questions on Labor relation and employment law on Principals of management and Human resources on InstantCert. For an upper level test...it really was not as bad as I expected. I passed the test with an A.

Okay let's do alittle Clep busting
Posted by: RBOWMAN - 04-26-2006, 07:42 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (10)

Iam wondering how many credits in theory I could actually imagine getting in one week if I really went after it either using clep or dsst. Here's the game .. this really must be doable and yes this is a game..alittle relief and past testing knowledge...so if I started on Monday.. and tried to set the clep record..I would take this plan of action:

Monday morning...social science and history{easy test} 6 credits
Monday afternoon...analyzing writing test{easy test} 6 credits

now who wants to take it from there...it's our chance to put together a speed week of testing. You're up ..so Tuesday I TAKE????????

  Passed Human Growth & Development

Passed with a 66! Ace recommended 50, used Instantcert primarily (2weeks) with REA's study guide ( $34.95 overkill). I liked the CLEP format and the wording of the questions (common sense) much more than DANTES. Instantcert was more than enough! Now on to Intro to Ed Psych...

Any other History majors out there?
Posted by: 94W - 04-25-2006, 03:15 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (19)

I am currently working on my History Degree with TESC. I have seven more tests to go. Now that my twenty year goal is getting close I find myself starting to question, what's next?
I am career military and hope to retire in 2008. I have worked Electronic maintenance the whole time. My next big decision is where to go with my second career. I tried for years to get a Electronics degree and could never get stable with one school long enough. This was before all the online schools and even today the electronics offerings are slim to none.
I decided on a history degree because it was the fastest path to a Bachelor's degree and I do enjoy history. Now my question is what to do with it. I plan on getting my Master's degree in the next three years. However, with a family to support and a upcoming retirement, I still need a viable career oppurtunity. I am leaning towards a position with the government as a historian or teaching. But I am not sure teaching will pay enough of the bills.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I find that this board has helped guide me with the tests, hopefully it will help here.

  CLEP Eng Comp w/essay results?
Posted by: fondue - 04-25-2006, 01:35 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Does anyone know how long it takes to receive CLEP English Comp with Essay results? I took the exam this morning and fear I bombed the essay portion.

It would have been nice to choose from a selection of essay topics instead of being stuck with one.

  Update your Signature!
Posted by: sgloer - 04-25-2006, 12:09 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (24)

Hello everyone,

If you have a chance, please consider setting up your signature. Here are a couple of things you might want to put in it:
a) your first name
b) how close you are to finishing your degree
c) how many credits total you tested out of
d) what degree, and from where

These are all just ideas, of course--post as little or as much as you want.

To update your signature, click the "User CP" in the upper left hand corner, and you will see an option to "Edit Signature"
