Civil War - Is IC and the Burns Videos Adequate for Good Score?
Posted by: steelers - 10-18-2006, 01:10 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

I'm starting to study for the Civil War exam. Has anybody scored well just using IC and the PBS Burns Civil War video series? I would like to get an A on the exam and was wondering if these two would be adequate. I like the idea of watching a video versus reading a boring book. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Any more practice tests besides the IC? I tried one of the official DSST practice tests but at $20 a test of 50 questsion (only 2 tests for a total of $40 is steep). I might fork out for test 2 if there are not any other resources. I am going to take this Thursday as it will be my 4th test in five weeks.

Intro to Sociology CLEP 10/21, tips?
Posted by: abilak - 10-17-2006, 02:55 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (14)

I have been going through all the exams questions here on Instacert and will continue to do so before taking the test. I am scheduled to take the test this Saturday morning 10/21. I do not have any background in Sociology and am pretty much relying on Instacert. I have looked at some stuff on freeuniv.com -- Any tips?? Any special areas to look at? Has anyone taken this exam recently? Was it difficult?

  Precalculus CLEP
Posted by: adamdriggers - 10-17-2006, 09:28 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (18)

As all moaning Thomas Edison students are aware, the CLEP Trig/College Algebra was replaced by Precalculus - a required course for we business majors. I am going to take it. Instacert has nothing and the CLEP site has no specific textbook recommendations. The description cited:

Section 1: 25 questions, 50 minutes. The use of an online graphing calculator (non-CAS) is allowed for this section. Only some of the questions will require the use of the calculator.
Section 2: 23 questions, 40 minutes. No calculator is allowed for this section.

Here's the official exam description:

Has anyone taken this? What is it like? Any book recommendations? Maybe any video series as well? I will pay hard cash for good resources! Smile Thanks, guys.

Successfully completed 7th DSST Exam today!
Posted by: CJ63 - 10-17-2006, 12:13 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

All,

I just completed my 7th DSST exam today since September 14th. I have passed them all by a comfortable margin with the exception of Drug and Alcohol Abuse which was more difficult than expected. Intro to Computing.. was easier than expected. I had not studied for that one at all, so I took it cold since I was already at the testing center and passed. It wasn't a breeze, but should be passable to all of you. I also took Environment and Humanity--it was difficult and not much like the study guide, but I passed it also by a comfortable margin. The third test I took today was Personal Finance--no studying--it was very easy and I would recommend it.

The others such as Criminal Justice, Here's to your Health and Intro to Business are easy using the study guide.

Good Luck to all of you! This was my last test. I will be done with my BS in Management next month!

Following are tests and scores:
Intro to Computing - Score: 60
Personal Finance - Score: 59
Environment and Humanity - Score: 58
Intro to Business - Score: 63
Criminal Justice - Score: 57
Here's to your health - Score: 63
Drug and Alcohol Abuse - Score: 50
hilarious

Boy are their practive tests much tougher than I/C's flash cards.
I feel like I have a great idea about concepts until I read some of the ways they pose the questions.

I've traditionally scored lower on theirs than on here but geez....

  DSST Astronomy must be rare
Posted by: mmorgan - 10-16-2006, 09:05 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (13)

Hey,

I'm thinking of doing Astronomy as an elective. Has anyone taken this, and or know a way I could study for it. I decided to maybe do this instead of Sociology if possible. It just seemed a little more interesting, ya know. But if I cant find a good way to study for it I might have to stick with ol' sociology.

  Lots of Questions
Posted by: NYTtech - 10-15-2006, 11:17 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Hello to everyone! I am new here and have a few questions. My school will only accept 30 clep and dsst credits. The following courses are the ones that I want to take:

Here’s to Your Health
Intro to World Religions
Macroeconomics
Microeconomics
Principles of Accounting
Intro Business Law
Principles of Management
Principles of* Marketing
Statistics
Finance
Art of the Western World

These equal out to 36 credits. Which two tests would you not take? Also, which order would you take these in? In you experience how do you rate them in terms of difficulty? Any other thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

I have Here's to Your Health scheduled for Friday of this week.

Is there any sites that have a study guide for this and or practice tests? This seems to be a very common requirement for most degrees and I can't find anything for this test. I enjoy practice test format so if you know of anything please let me know.
