Information TESU Additional Fees + $348 Minimum
Posted by: Ares - 03-11-2025, 05:34 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (1)

When TESU degrees are discussed here I usually only see the $3,354 Edison Accelerate Fee (formerly Residency Waiver Fee) mentioned.

These are some additional fees to keep in mind;

$50 - Application Fee
$298 - Graduation Audit Fee

2.95% - Convenience Fee for credit and debit card transactions.

So plan for at an additional minimum of $348 to complete your degree.

  UofPeople and Eastern University
Posted by: Flightrsk82 - 03-11-2025, 03:37 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (5)

I applied to both schools recently. I applied to University of the People since they received the regional accreditation to the MSIT program. They finally accepted my documents proving language and math and I will be starting there on April 10th, if I decide to attend.

I also applied to Eastern University, MS in Data Analytics. The required GPA there is 3.0 but you can apply with a letter of explanation. I had right at a 2.78 so I decided to take my chances. I submitted all the required documents and awaiting a decision.

My questions are has anyone applied with less than the 3.0? I have worked with data now as an Ops and UAT Analyst for 10 years or so which I hope will strengthen my application. I also completed a Google Data Analytics Certificate that I submitted.

Last question is if you could decide between the two, which would you pick?

  Study.com Psychology 105 to PSY-3220
Posted by: sciona13 - 03-11-2025, 09:39 AM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (5)

I saw on the wiki here that Study.com's Psychology 105 should transfer over to TESU's PSY-3220, but on study.com's guide, it says that course transfers as PSY-2290 "Intro to Research Methods in Psychology". Can anyone verify this has transferred successfully recently to PSY-3220? I'm working on my overall degree plan and know that I need to put in 15 credits at TESU and trying to figure out which ones MUST be at TESU other than the Capstone and SOS-1100.

Thanks!

2026 Electric TELO Compact Truck (American Made)
Posted by: LevelUP - 03-10-2025, 11:06 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (12)

This is a cool-looking electric compact pickup truck with a starting price of $42,000. The truck offers substantial utility and achieves approximately 3 miles per kilowatt-hour—comparable to the efficiency of the Model Y.

Tesla should consider offering a compact truck. While their Cybertruck is visually appealing, its starting price of $80,000 makes it more of a luxury toy, similar to the Hummer. In contrast, Rivian’s offerings start at $70,000 yet only achieve about 2.2 miles per kilowatt-hour.

In another case, a family ditched their $110,000 Ford F-150 electric truck during a drive from Winnipeg to Chicago after experiencing charging troubles. The main complaints were that it took two hours to charge and cost more than gasoline.

Overall, I'm very gung ho about electric cars, though I acknowledge that many of these vehicles aren't highly practical for everyday use.

Newlane University - My experience so far
Posted by: tsgreer - 03-09-2025, 07:21 PM - Forum: General "Big 3", B&M colleges, and other colleges - Replies (25)

After doing a ton of research on affordable, accredited online universities, I decided to try out Newlane University.

Newlane University is accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC). The DEAC is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a recognized accrediting agency. The DEAC is also recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Newlane is competency-based and they offer:
- B.A. in Liberal Arts
- B.A. in Liberal Arts - Business Administration
- B.A. in Liberal Arts - Psychology

There’s a Reddit sub for Newlane, but it’s practically dead—only two posts and not much discussion. After checking out the official website, I decided to apply. Right after, I got a link to schedule a video call with a counselor. Honestly, that annoyed me because I prefer a straightforward online application with no unnecessary steps, and I definitely didn’t want any kind of sales pitch. But out of curiosity, I scheduled it for the next day. Happily surprised.

When the meeting started, the person introduced himself, and it turned out to be one of the actual founders of the school. Was not expecting that. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad sign, but it was definitely interesting. We ended up talking for about 30 minutes, and I asked about pricing, accreditation, and what motivated him to start the school.

I totally forgot to ask how many students are enrolled, but based on my research, it seems to be a couple hundred. I’ll confirm when I get an answer.

What impressed me was that there was no upselling at all. He told me the exact pricing structure upfront. The way it works is simple: you pay a flat monthly fee ($39) while you’re enrolled, and once you hit a set total cost ($1,500), you don’t pay anything else. No hidden fees, no books to buy (everything is online), and they accept up to 90 transfer credits.

It’s competency-based, so you work at your own pace—as fast or as slow as you want. If you stop taking classes, you stop paying.

The website itself is easy to use, though it looks a little dated. That doesn’t bother me, though, because it loads super fast. I also got an email about credit transfer, so I’m in the process of updating my credits.

So far, so good. Another thing I like is how fast the communication has been. Every email I’ve sent has been answered the same day or the next day, and I was assigned a student support person in case I need help. Haven’t had to use them yet, but they did give some advice on course pacing: “If you have 5-10 hours a week to spend, we recommend taking one course. If you have 10-20 hours a week, taking two courses is totally doable. You can also change how many courses you take at once as you get a feel for what works for you at Newlane.”

So far, my experience with Newlane has been fast, smooth, and no-nonsense. I like what I've experienced so far, but again, I am a very new student. I've sent in my transcripts and I'll keep everyone updated on how it works out.

  Feedback on potential plan
Posted by: xBless - 03-09-2025, 06:10 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (8)

Hi, [Image: heart.png]

Your Location: FL
Your Age: 28
What kind of degree do you want?: PhD Psychology
Current Regional Accredited Credits: 75
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 18
Any certifications or military experience?: 0
Budget: Willing to go in debt.
Commitments: I have a lady and family to consider, but I've given them so much positive equity in relational love that they can take a hit.
Dedicated time to study: 60hr/week is probably my burnout.
Timeline: Dec 1. is PhD early app deadline. This year or next year. (If MA needed for app improvement) Maybe I slide in with a strong personal statement.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Pell, I have no income currently.

[For the BA Psych] I posted last September where I was given great advice and attended UMPI--thank you again, it's been an excellent fit and experience. Most of the information above is the same as it was then. I'll need another 5 courses at UMPI and 4 that I'm testing out of. This is already nearly completely set in stone with no feedback needed.

I can see the completion of the BA, and it looks like that'll happen sometime this summer. As I mentioned in September, I have attempted applications with PhD programs based on a strong personal statement (and minimal supporting evidence), but it's unlikely to be strong enough. With that, I've been considering what to do until Fall 2026 (given I'm unlikely to get in Fall 2025). This leaves me with just about 12-14months.

I'm still aiming at the PhD and considering how I can transfer a master's over. I've looked at some schools offering APA accredited PhD programs and their transfer requirements. I've been considering UWA MS Experimental Psychology (with the master's thesis) as a stepping stone into a PhD program in Clinical Psychology or something similar. I've compared UWA's curriculum to UF and it seems like a good match. I haven't seen many options for completing a masters + master's thesis with similar curriculum in this time frame, but I was wondering if I'm overlooking something (like with UMPI).

I've been doing my thing since that last post and I hope you guys have been, too. I had two years left at the beginning of this and it looks like I'll have it done in about 10 months with a 4.0. It was more than I could have hoped for going in--I was debating prioritizing a masters or a 4.0, but it looks like I can have it all. I certainly wouldn't be in a position this well had I not learned so much from this forum and had I not had some guidance. I'm very grateful. I've consistently been at burnout throughout these months, but at the same time I think I can maintain this pace for a bit longer.

Financials are of concern [UWA will likely be ~15-20k] and I could work over the next year instead, but I would expect that it would actually be more economical to potentially cut ~2years from the PhD program. All thoughts are appreciated. Bless.
