Combined M.Ed. & Ed.D from RA College (Upgrad)
Posted by: Messdiener - 12-28-2024, 04:28 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (8)

Upgrad is offering a combined M.Ed.-Ed.D. option in several different areas of education:

  • Master and Doctor of Education in Emerging Technologies in Education
  • Master and Doctor of Education in Online Learning and Education Technology
  • Master and Doctor of Education in K-12 Educational Leadership
  • Master and Doctor of Education in Higher Educational Leadership
  • Master and Doctor of Education in Curriculum Studies and Learning Sciences
Degrees are issued by Edgewood College, which is an RA Catholic college in Wisconsin (USA). The minimum eligibility requirement is "a bachelors degree in any field".

For both the RA master's & the doctorate, you'll be set back roughly 13,000 US dollars, depending on where you are in the world. I don't think I've seen a better deal out there for this combo.

The estimated time for completion: 30 months.

  Tech degree planning
Posted by: Braedot - 12-28-2024, 12:47 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (3)

Your Location: Utah
Your Age: 24
What kind of degree do you want?: Bachelors with a major in tech. Major flexible, but preferably IT. More interested in networking, cybersecurity, cloud and less interested in data analytics, software development, and computer science
Current Regional Accredited Credits: None.
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None.
Any certifications or military experience?: CompTIA 220-1101 exam passed, but not 220-1102 for the A+.
Budget: I'd really like to keep it under the 15k mark
Commitments: A full time job and a girlfriend
Dedicated time to study: 20-30h a week
Timeline: 36 months or less; would like an associates within 18
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I may be getting assistance from the state, but I'm still waiting to hear on eligibility and benefit details. Might get some from the pell grant

I'd like an associates degree along the way if logical. IT Certifications or an undergraduate certification along the way would be nice, but not as important to me.
I'd *prefer* a non-proctored environment. Really want to do as many courses on Sophia as possible
I'd *prefer* not to do Calculus level math or above
It's a requirement for me to be able to accomplish everything online.
Willing to spend a little more (with the total budget still being 15k) to accommodate the associates degree preference

Here's what I've got so far. I've emailed Snow College to see if their cybersecurity/networking AAS program will accept ACE credits. If they do, I'll do that and transfer it into WGU.

If not, this would be the plan for a WGU IT degree:
WGU plan spreadsheet

Open to other programs/schools. I considered the BABA PM&IS at UMPI but the courses are not interesting to me at all, I want to learn applicable skills for my field.

The PUG/TESU Cybersecurity and Cloud Computing programs seem interesting. I haven't looked much into SNHU

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any feedback Smile

  Master in Psychology - easiest/fastest
Posted by: Sam1245 - 12-27-2024, 10:41 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (11)

I have a great career but need a masters in some field of psychology to get into a management position. I've done online studies for my undergrad but that was 2009-2012. I enjoyed it although it was course based and not competency based.

The masters can be any length (30 credits works), online only, and any sub field of psychology is fine (educational, general, clinical, etc.). I do not need a licensure program and won't be pursuing a PhD. Goal is to finish in 12 months or less.

Right now, I am looking at Walden (although not sure about tempo) and possibly APUS. Must be regionally accredited.

Am I missing anything? Thank you! Smile

  Crazy shopping holiday season!
Posted by: bjcheung77 - 12-27-2024, 09:50 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (4)

Wow, it's packed in the malls even after X-mas!  Went shopping and couldn't find parking for a long time... Went to pick up my kids/wife's glasses as well and then lunch, plus more shopping at Costco...

What did you guys score over the Black Friday, Cyber Monday deals from last month? How about the X-mas deals over the week?  Interesting deals that are still available online?!

Looking to get a new gaming desk and chair combo... Going to check out Best Buy, IKEA, Staples, and maybe order off Amazon or Newegg if there are better deals online with Rakuten...

  DSST Statistics
Posted by: lorellabee - 12-27-2024, 11:40 AM - Forum: CLEP, DSST, and TECEP Exam Discussion. Also Modern States and InstantCert. - Replies (3)

I don't see any threads concerning DSST Statistics exam since 2019. Has anyone taken it more recently? Does anyone know if the z, t, and chi-squared tables are included? I'm going to a testing center that doesn't allow me to bring my own calculator and I read that the DSST test doesn't include a graphing calculator in the program. Are any formulas included with the test? The DSST booklet doesn't specify anything except that some type of ztable will be included along with a basic calculator. Advice? Comments?

Seeking Help with BLS Degree Plan Discrepancy and Graduation Requirements
Posted by: lyh - 12-25-2024, 07:59 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (4)

Hello everyone,

I was a student in the 2024 Fall 1 term, majoring in BABA Project Management Degree. However, I had to apply for a leave of absence midway through the semester due to hospitalization. I provided sufficient medical documentation and submitted multiple requests to my coach, Susan, but she never responded to my emails.

Now that I have recovered and Fall 1 has ended, I had to switch my major to complete my degree. Fortunately, I completed 10 courses during Fall 1 and discovered that my coursework closely aligns with the graduation requirements for the BLS – Project Management Minor program.

According to the information provided on the official website, the core courses for this major are:

BUS141
BUS240
BUS343
BUS400
BUS401
BUS415
However, in the new degree plan Susan created for me, BUS415 is listed as an elective, and I am required to take one additional course from BUS359, BUS440, or BUS469 to "replace" BUS415.

This is particularly troubling because BUS359, BUS440, and BUS469 cannot transfer credits from other platforms. While it is said that BUS440 can transfer credits through Coursera's IBM program, feedback has been inconsistent—some students succeeded, while others failed. This uncertainty makes me feel very uneasy.

I have raised my concerns to Susan multiple times via email and even provided screenshots from the official website clearly stating that BUS415 is a core course. However, her replies consistently deny this, and each response takes 10 days to two weeks.

This situation leaves me very confused:

Shouldn’t the degree plan follow the course requirements listed on the official website?
If BUS415 is no longer a core course, why hasn’t the website been updated for over a year?
What’s more, Susan’s actions make me feel like she is deliberately encouraging me to subscribe to additional terms at UMPI. When I applied to change my major, she explicitly suggested that my "best option" was to subscribe for another term. Yet, based on the official course requirements, I have already completed all the necessary courses for the BLS – Project Management Minor and should theoretically be eligible to graduate.

Given this situation, I am unsure of what to do next.

Can I reach out to another school official or department (such as the registrar’s office) for assistance?
Has anyone experienced a similar issue and can offer advice or solutions?
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

online DHSc, NO Dissertation or Capstone, EVMS?
Posted by: lookingformore1 - 12-24-2024, 05:00 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (43)

After looking through this forum, seems the one DHSc w/o dissertation or capstone is at EVMS. Anyone know any others? I am a NP, the doctorate program for PA's wouldn't apply.
If you have been through the EVMS program and have feedback, would be great to post as well , thank you

UMPI Master of Science in Business
Posted by: Jonathan Whatley - 12-24-2024, 07:44 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (57)

[Update in July 2025: The Master of Science in Business landing page is now up, describing the first three concentrations noted below and accepting applications for courses starting in Fall 2025.]

The University of Maine at Presque Isle's proposal to add a Master of Science in Business (MSB) program by the YourPace competency-based education modailty is advancing through the University of Maine System. The proposal was approved by the Academic & Student Affairs Committee of the UMS Board of Trustees on December 16. The next step will be approval by the full UMS Board of Trustees on January 12-13. [Update: That approval was granted.]

A UMPI press release states these first three concentrations "are expected to be offered when MSB classes start in Fall 2025, and the remaining concentrations will roll out in future sessions:"

  • Communication [name was changed at launch from the name during planning, Communication Management]
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Human Resource Management
In the December meeting, President Rice stated the remaining concentrations are expected to become available in the next 18 months after that:
  • Business Intelligence
  • Finance
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Global Business Management
  • Healthcare Management
  • Project Management
All students would complete core courses in:
  • Managerial Accounting and Finance
  • Strategic Leadership
  • Business Analytics and Decision Support Systems
  • Sustainability, Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Change Management and Organizational Adaptation
[Edit: In a later meeting, one other future concentration was discussed:
  • Artificial Intelligence Policy and Strategy (it seems likely the Master of Artificial Intelligence Management proposed separately earlier has been repositioned into an MSB concentration)]
The teaching staff will include existing faculty at UMPI and the University of Maine at Fort Kent, including two new full-time faculty at UMPI, one hired already, one hiring upcoming.

The proposal is available on pages 5 to 48 of the pdf pagination in this set of documents prepared for the December 16 meeting. Note that since preparation of that plan, the anticipated launch of the MSB was pushed to Fall 2025, not Spring 2025. The meeting is available on YouTube: the section discussing the MSB runs from 12:07 to 49:46 here.

How to get into an internship if you don’t need school credit?
Posted by: Dori001 - 12-24-2024, 06:53 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (12)

I recently graduated with a B.A. in Film and Media Arts from Temple University and am doing two remote internships. I want to apply for more internships to gain experience, but many require school credit, which I no longer qualify for. Some only require proof of school enrollment, and a few don’t have requirements, but those are rare.

Do you have any advice? Is it possible to enroll in an affordable college for one class to qualify for school credit, or are there other options?

It’s hard to find jobs without experience or connections, and I’d really appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you!
