Question New Here & Would Appreciate Advice In Degree Planning
Posted by: Aardvarks_n_scotties - 10-05-2024, 05:53 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (8)

Your Location: NE Ohio, United States
Your Age: mid-late thirties
What kind of degree do you want?: In theory, any, however I am open to suggestions. My long term and career goals entail pursuing either Masters in Public Health or BSN and specifically focus on Health & Human Services (which is such bummer both the certificate & minor at UMPI are in person only). Some of the Universities in my area will let you accelerate your BSN if you have a bachelors (any) from an accredited school. So that leaves me having conflicting thoughts on which degree path to pursue due to my love for history but common sense tells me it makes more sense to have a more versatile, business degree.
Current Regional Accredited Credits: 27
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 92
Any certifications or military experience?:

Budget: if it’s cheap, it’s for me.
Commitments: I had surgery this year, so it’s the perfect opportunity to complete my degree, finally.
Dedicated time to study: weekdays, as I am still home due to recovery.
Timeline: ASAP
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: none.

Budget: None, but again, I’d like to get this done as quickly as possible. After having brain surgery, it made me realize I have nothing substantial to put in my obituary so, I know vain, but still.
Commitments: Honestly, just recovering from my surgery (I still get migraines and sometimes I get overwhelmed with anxiety, another reason why UMPI was a selling feature because of my test anxiety and adhd), spouse and my pets. Weekdays like 8 am – 6 pm will be my primetime for studying, assignments, etc.
Dedicated time to study: definitely a minimum if I am juggling everything else, plus assignments, 20 hours, similar to that of a part time job.
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal.  I would love to be done in a one session, but realistically, less than twelve months would be fantastic.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: none

Please provide any relevant details you may have that may help us determine a option or path for you to investigate, such as your preference towards either test-out (you're a great test taker) or competency based education (because you like assessments, assignments and have test anxiety).  What other details you provide us can help determine your course of action suited for your educational journey...
I definitely experience test anxiety, as I did in the past. This is why UMPI was so attractive to me.
In my spreadsheet, you will find multiple “degree” paths. I guess I was just trying to weigh the pros and cons of each path, which way was the best to go for myself and also offered varied content, with the least number of courses needed to complete the degree.
I hope I didn’t overshare, just trying to be concise and effectively describe my situation, as weird as it is.
Thanks everyone!

Also, my google sheet wasn't attaching, so here is the link directly: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...sp=sharing

  Easiest Business Minor
Posted by: Samhain408 - 10-05-2024, 11:54 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (16)

As I’m getting ready to start Fall I, I’ve chosen to pursue a BLS major. I’ve also completed several Coursera certifications (Google Project Management, Google UX Design, Google IT, Google Data Analytics, Google Business Intelligence, IBM Data Analyst, IBM Data Analysis and Visualization, and Real World Cloud Product Management, which have helped me fulfill most of the requirements for a Management Information Systems (MIS) minor.

Now, I’m thinking about adding two more business-oriented minors to aim for a triple minor. I’d love to know which ones are relatively easy to complete,. I have transferred in all the credits I need except for residency and whatever I’ll need to wrap up these minors.

Would really appreciate any recommendations!

  Liberty University--- Difficulty?
Posted by: midnite123 - 10-05-2024, 02:31 AM - Forum: General "Big 3", B&M colleges, and other colleges - Replies (15)

Hi,

As I take Sophia courses,
with plans for a BLS from UMPI,
I started looking into Liberty University.

Quick question.

If you transfer 90 credits to Liberty,
How would Liberty students rate the difficulty of their courses?

I understand they have no proctors.

THANK YOU!!!

  Help with degree planning
Posted by: nuit001 - 10-04-2024, 03:54 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (2)

First and foremost, I would like to apologize for any inconsistencies or misunderstandings, I'm new to this forum, and new to all this in general. Please be patient with me, thank you.

I will finally earn my high school diploma in December through an online self-paced accredited school and plan to began college. I am hoping to pursue a career in mechanical engineering, though I am not 100%, but that's the plan for now. One of my questions is: what do you guys recommend I do in order to get as many general education courses out of the way? My initial plan was to just go to my CC (ARC) and my A.S. and then from there transfer to my local UC (CSUS) to get my B.S.

The main reason I'm on here is I don't wish to take GE courses at CC that'll take too long to finish. I want help getting advice on what's the best choice to make. I want to enroll in ARC and have as little courses left as possible to graduate with my A.S., is that the right way to go on about things? Any advice would honestly be greatly appreciated, as I don't have anyone to help me navigate through this.

I've looked into UOTP, CLEP through ModernStates, Saylor, etc. but just don't know where I would need to eventually start and if I'm even doing the right thing.

I have other questions to ask, but for now that is all. Any comments/advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Your Location: Northern California, USA

Your Age: 21

What kind of degree do you want?: Mechanical Engineering A.S. and eventually a B.S.

Current Regional Accredited Credits: None.

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None.

Any certifications or military experience?: Manufacturing Certificate, no military experience.

Budget: As low as possible.

Commitments: Sickly mother, personal caregiver.

Dedicated time to study: M-F, 5-6 daily.

Timeline: Flexible, but the sooner, the better.

Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Possibly FASFA, if not, then none.

  TESU and DEAC
Posted by: wow - 10-04-2024, 02:39 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (12)

I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find the posts.

TESU transfer policy seems to indicate it will take transfer credits from DEAC institutions: https://tesu.smartcatalogiq.com/current/...er-credit/

But an advisor today told me they won't.

I am talking about a situation where I already have 24 Credits from a regionally accredited institution. I thought if I had those, that DEAC would potentially be transferable. (I thought people on this board said that they'd had some DEAC credits transfer.) Can someone clarify the policy for me?

(I haven't taken the classes yet, so don't worry about that.)
