  Metropolia payment scare
Posted by: Bosnian_Slovenian - 09-22-2024, 06:28 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

I payed for the Metropolia open path diploma program. When I approved the payment in my banking app, the website said that the time for me to apply has expired and that I have to reapply. The money was not returned and I did not receive an email from Metropolia with further instructions. I sent two emails, one to the admissions office and one to avoinamk. Since it's sunday I'm still waiting for them to respond. Did anyone else have the same thing happen?

Question Request for Advice on Selecting a University for My Bachelor's Degree
Posted by: Evoluvin - 09-22-2024, 01:31 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (13)

Hello everyone,

I’m seeking advice on which university program might be the best fit for my circumstances.

Your Location: Maryland
Current Regional Accredited Credits: None
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None
Any certifications or military experience?: CompTIA Sec+, CCSK, CEH, ITIL v3, AWS CCP
Budget: Unlimited
Timeline: Soonest
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Company offers 6k a year

A bit about me: I’m 35 years old, working full-time as a Director of Cybersecurity at a large technology company. I’ve spent over 16 years in the IT industry, working for multiple large DoD contractors and AWS, progressing from the help desk to my current leadership role. However, I’ve never taken any formal college courses, so I don’t have any transferable RA credits. Although I do currently hold a few IT certifications.

At this stage in my career, I feel like I’ve reached a point where, in order to advance into executive leadership, having a degree is becoming a necessity. While I have the experience, I understand the value of that "piece of paper" to open certain doors. That said, my current workload is around 50 hours per week, and I’m also a husband and father to two young boys, ages 8 and 5. Needless to say, my schedule is quite packed.

Initially, I was looking into Western Governors University (WGU), specifically their Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Cybersecurity programs. However, after doing more research, I’m not entirely sure if those are the fastest or most efficient routes to take. This search led me here, and I’m hoping to gather insights to help finalize my decision.

Currently, I’m considering the following institutions and degrees:

  • Excelsior University: Bachelor of Science in Business (I noticed both their Computer Science and Cybersecurity programs are relatively new).
  • Thomas Edison State University (TESU): Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science (BACS) and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA). The option for a double degree in BACS and BSBA with CIS specialization is particularly intriguing. (Con: No RA credits to transfer)
  • University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI): Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).
My goal is to pursue a technology or business-related degree, whichever will be faster to complete given my current commitments. I've also looked into Sophia and Study.com and understand that receiving as many transferable credits is key to accelerating.

Any advice or feedback on these schools or programs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and help!

  Pierpont & Western Civ 1&2
Posted by: Carnation - 09-21-2024, 06:55 PM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - No Replies

This is for future reference, which will mainly include dual enrollment students who will gain residency cheaply and can still take advantage of BOG degree.

Pierpont DOES NOT have equivalencies for CLEP Western Civilization 1 & 2.
They weren't going to give my son credit for them because they do not have equivalencies for them.
My son wanted a degree in history so they made an exception, but this is a warning in case someone wants to use these CLEP exams in the future.

Typically, with microdentials, you don't just receive a digital badge but also a digital certificate (a paper stating that you have completed the program of study).

$99: https://advance.nebraska.edu/browse/uno/...enrollment

$99.95 CAD: https://flemingcollege.ca/continuing-edu...fessionals

The three hour ones are $75 but there are others for $99: https://www.cqu.edu.au/courses?profile=_...redentials

$99: https://educatorhub.asu.edu/catalog/?mod...%20only%29

Free and for-credit: https://www.middlesex.mass.edu/phit/micro.aspx

It looks like one course has already started, I emailed them asking if registration is still open.

The notable ones are:

Barter to Bitcoin

The rest are like college success courses. I have attached my certificate of achievement for the Barter to Bitcoin course I did.

Coursera Google PM Cert to UMPI
Posted by: dm.hans32 - 09-20-2024, 09:33 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - No Replies

Just wanted to give you all some advice if you're planning on doing the Google PM cert for transfer credit at UMPI. It's supposed to transfer in as 9 credits: 3 in BUS400, 3 in BUS3XX and 3 in BUS1XX, however there has been an issue with it transferring in lately because Coursera isn't issuing the ACE credit badge.

As another poster mentioned in another thread, there was a problem with transferring it in, and it's an issue in Coursera's system. I just ran the gauntlet of getting passed around to a bunch of different people trying to solve this issue. So here's the process to get it corrected:

1. Once you complete the Cert and Coursera tells you to claim your badge, go claim it on your Credly account.

2. Ensure that the Google PM Cert Badge is on "make badge public" (otherwise it won't show on your transcript).

3. Request a copy of the transcript (free) and check to see if the Google PM Cert has an endorsement for ACE credits (not just the FIBAA one) -- If it has the ACE badge, you are good to send the transcript off to UMPI.

4. If your Credly transcript only shows the FIBAA endorsement, you have to open a help ticket with Coursera (Not Credly, like UMPI suggests you do). Easiest way to go about this is open chat, get through the chatbot and explain that you are missing the ACE badge. You will be connected to a live person and they will have to escalate it up to have someone manually issue the badge.

5. Wait for Coursera to email you, notifying you that the issue will be resolved (They will say within minutes but it can be a few hours to a few days).

6. Patiently wait 24-48 hours for Coursera to issue the badge, and you will receive an email telling you that you have a badge to claim. (Do not bug Coursera like I did, it will just create additional tickets that get annoying)

8. Go back to Credly and claim the new badge.

9. Repeat steps 2 and 3, and your problem should be fixed.

----
Hope all of that helps!
