Study.com Exam, Accidentally Left Installer Open
Posted by: ExcellentPhoto - 08-02-2024, 06:11 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, OnlineDegree.com, Sophia.Org Discussion - Replies (2)

I accidentally left the PSI Secure Browser installer open while taking my final exam for a Study.com course, I realized about halfway through the test that I forgot to close the installer. I did not open or interact with it in any way during the test. Do you think this will cause an issue? I am on a Mac, if that matters.

Thanks,

IEU Universidad: another online Mexican university
Posted by: Avidreader - 08-02-2024, 03:29 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - No Replies

This is yet another Spanish language option for anyone interested in getting other Masters degrees, some of which are not as readily available or cheap. They also offer PhDs in several subjects. The university has a physical location in Puebla, Mexico and has normal physical location degrees, hybrid and online degrees.

There are other campuses in Campeche, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Veracruz.

They offer normal online and a more expensive executive online modality that includes more networking and closer contact with tutors.
Bachelors take 3 years, masters between 16-23 months. Executive modality takes 4 extra months on average. PhDs take 27 months.
Every degree in the school has RVOE. The website mentions it requires a CURP number. International applicants might need to ask if they accept foreigners. Masters degrees require a cédula profesional number for the bachelors, a process that foreigners can do at the SEP but it costs a few thousand pesos to get foreign degrees recognized. No mention on the website if they would accept an apostillated foreign degree as equivalent.
Unlike some other schools, you can't accelerate the degree, which is a huge letdown.

Prices aren’t readily visible, but if you inquire by email and have a favorable GPA, they will be generous with scholarships, offering 60% off. Their bachelor degrees with the scholarship cost around 2500-3000 mxn a month, around 150 usd a month. So around 5000 usd for the full bachelors degree.

Masters are around 6000 mxn a month I believe. So masters should cost around 6000 usd, but it depends a lot on how generous the scholarship is.

Free course in English "International Diploma in Data, Surveillance and Democracy"
Posted by: Avidreader - 08-01-2024, 09:55 PM - Forum: Free Courses and Certificates and Good Deals - Replies (3)

The Chilean Recoleta University or UAR has just opened sign ups for the fall 2024 session. While most courses are in Spanish, this one is expected to be offered in English.

Courses are free of charge. These diplomados are pretty much self paced. They usually have text to read, quizzes you can only do once that are worth part of the score and a final essay where you are expected to grade 2 other students. Once you pass the course and the session ends, you will get an email saying your digital diploma is ready and to download it.

Text of the course:
The Universidad Abierta de Recoleta, in conjunction with MIJENTE, presents the International Diploma in Data, Surveillance and Democracy – Second edition, which is composed of four courses: (i) Digital Revolution and Data Economy, (ii) Social Networks, Fake News and Democratic Crisis, (iii) Rebellion against Technology at the Service of Surveillance and (iv) Real Utopias: What do we do with digital technologies?

MIJENTE is a non-profit organization originating from Chicago, USA, being the political home for Latinos and Chicanos seeking racial, economic, gender and climate justice. Learn more about MIJENTE at this LINK.

Advances in digital technology have revolutionized the world around us. This technological revolution has changed everything from our society to transforming the economy and impacting democracies. In fact, data, our very personal and private information, is now worth more than the cost of oil and gold.

Against this backdrop, UAR’s International Diploma in Data, Surveillance and Democracy – Second edition, in partnership with MIJENTE, critically analyzes the current state of global digital surveillance, recognizing its effects on human life. In addition, the courses that make up the Diploma include spaces, activities and multimedia materials for critical reflection on this surveillance, with international experts who share theory and praxis for counter-hegemonic action.

Need help for UMPI YourPace Admission
Posted by: AnnaVu - 08-01-2024, 09:50 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (6)

Hello everyone,
I've been a lurker for about 5 months, and found a lot of valuable information in this community—thank you all for that! I've hit a new hurdle today and could really use some advice.

I graduated high school in Vietnam in 2001 and moved to Oregon in 2005. I wasn't eligible for financial aid and took some college courses without earning official credits, focusing instead on building a new life here. I now run a small business and haven't considered going back to school.

2 years ago, life pushed me to a new world where I had to study to become ABA therapist for my own son. My passion for this field has continued to grown since then. I've received positive feedback from my supervisors and full support from my family, which has encouraged me to pursue a bachelor's degree and eventually a master's, at 41. I've been working hard this year and have earned 83 Sophia credits so far. I also applied for BOG to close the gap.

I applied to the Liberal Studies Psychology program at UMPI 2 weeks ago and have been in touch with an admissions specialist, Nikki Enlow. I finally requested for a phone call. This morning, she informed me that my application is being transferred to a different department that handles students with prior international education. She mentioned that I need to have my high school transcripts evaluated by a third party, such as NACES or AICE, and have them sent directly to UMPI. Also, I need to provide English language proficiency exam scores and an official transcript from a local community college, even though I haven’t taken any for-credit courses there. She stated that my 83 Sophia credits would still be considered, but not good enough.

I'm feeling sad and discouraged because the process seems more complicated than I anticipated. I had hoped to start in September, but now that seems impossible.
I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights on how to navigate this situation and move fast forward. Thanks so much for your help!

Does anyone know what courses can be used to satisfy the electives proportion of the TESU AAS Degree in Environmental, Safety, and Security technologies?
Could criminal justice or Sophia courses be used? I am trying to find any free courses I can use. I see TEEX offers credits for free can they be used?

TAMUC is awaiting approval for a Human Resources CBE Program. Advisor told me it is due to start Fall 2024, just waiting on the final approvals.

Attached the flyer for your viewing pleasures. I think I may actually be switching to this one, will still only need 10 courses.

Thumbs Up UMPI PM & IS Degree. Complete Newbie
Posted by: TooNee - 07-31-2024, 07:35 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (10)

Your Location: The Bahamas
Your Age: 37
What kind of degree do you want?: UMPI BBA Project Man. & IS

Current Regional Accredited Credits: Did a few courses at a vocational school but I doubt the credits will transfer.
Can provide a copy or if you can connect me with a UMPI rep that can confirm if it's worth anything that'll be great also

School Name Total Credits: 0
Class Name, Credits, Grade

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 0 Literally starting over from scratch.

Provider Total Credits: 0
Class Name, Credits, Grade

Any certifications or military experience? None, not a resident.

Budget: I have a max of $3K saved up.  I'd like to go the cheapest route possible, but will consider spending more for easy and fast.

Commitments: I have 2 kids. Work a full time job and can work on my studies part time or in the evenings/weekends.
My job gets slow at times so I can squeeze in some time there as well.

Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as is needed during the night or weekends as long as my schedule is free. I estimate at least 6 hours every week.

Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal.  I would like to finish within 6/9 months max.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: No financial assistance available to me.

This is all new to me, I've been reading through the forum for a few days trying to understand certain terminologies and how best to plan to attain my degree.
I chose UMPI because it is one of the few universities willing to accept international students and seemingly the most affordable as well if I am very strategic.

Currently trying to decide on the GE classes for the PM & IS degree but I am seeing a variation of reults, which is expected, I found a degree plan through youtube but the youtuber is pushing Study.com/straighline all the way.
I'd prefer to go the Sophia route as much as possible because of it's affordability.

If any of you can provide the alternative classes from the attached degree plan for SOPHIA that would be so helpful.

I welcome any and all advice on how to proceed.

One more thing, I am on the UMPI wiki page and I'm reviewing the GE requirements.
I am not quite understanding the rubric with the learning objectives. Does the 1A, 2D, 3C refer to a grade expectancy or refer to a course label?

I also visited the transfer equivalency per the UMPI site and it's offering some clarity on which course is the equal to Sophia course.

Thank you. Thank you all for your help and suggestions.
I am ready to start tomorrow with Sophia if possible. See attached sheet copied from YouTube.
