RA like ASU with option to add credit at end of course?
Posted by: LastFrontierLearner - 02-19-2025, 10:52 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Are there any other RA online classes like ASU's Earned Admission that give the option of making the class for-credit at the end of the course instead of the beginning? I've tried Googling and searching through the forums here but haven't come up with anything.

EDIT: For a bit of context, my 13-year-old twins are homeschooling and they are chomping at the bit to start college classes. They definitely have the reading ability and motivation, but I'm looking for options where they could potentially earn RA credit with a bit of a safety net as they adapt to the rigor of college-level classes.

Thank you - I have already learned a ton from all of you!

Need Help Finding a Transferable Public Health Data Systems and Informatics Course
Posted by: karaloehrer - 02-19-2025, 01:29 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

Hi everyone, a friend of mine needs to find a course on Public Health Data Systems and Informatics that will transfer to Grand Canyon University (GCU). They cannot graduate until they complete this requirement, and since they’re already halfway through their capstone, they’re feeling really stressed.

Has anyone successfully transferred a similar course to GCU, or do you know of any accredited universities or online programs that offer it? Any recommendations or guidance on where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Transferring undergrad alternative credits when applying for Graduate Program?
Posted by: Kgaul - 02-18-2025, 07:56 PM - Forum: WGU - Western Governors University Discussion - Replies (3)

I received a BSBA via many alternative credits for my second Bachelor's degree in 2017(not at WGU), I am a certified teacher and need 3 more credits in Math on an RA transcript in order to get another subject area certification.

The question: If I take a straighterline Math now, and apply to a WGU Master's program will the Math class show up on my WGU transcript when I send in my transcripts for the Masters program, or will they just take my Bachelors' degrees as a whole?

I only spoke to them via the chat right now and they said yes, but I am skeptical. Does anyone have any experience in this area?

Credit-eligible courses for computer modeling for lathing?
Posted by: Welons - 02-18-2025, 02:22 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

I need to do some 2D modeling or technical drawings by hand for my side-projects that I do on a lathe. If I could draw or do this on a computer it would make my life easier.

I searched Sophia, study.com as well as Coursera but couldn't find anything where I'd get credits. Does anyone know if there are any credit-eligible courses? Might as well make it count if I can before I spend a week on Udemy.

Completed Final Class - East Texas A&M / TAMUC
Posted by: ATM925 - 02-17-2025, 11:34 PM - Forum: General "Big 3", B&M colleges, and other colleges - Replies (5)

Well, it took a little longer than expected, but I completed my final courses for my BAAS in Occupational Safety and Health last week.  The term ends on 2/28, and I will graduate in May, but I am done!  Thank you all who guided the way.  I started college in 2002 and left in 2004 and had 12 credits... I found this site in 2022 and decided it was time to finish my degree. It took me a while to get started, but this past year, I worked through a lot of Sophia courses, and between my 12 from the early 2000s and 66 from Sophia, I was able to transfer 78 into TAMUC/ East Texas A&M and completed 42 credits as outlined below:

Term: Summer II 2024 - 9 credits
CID

342
Leading Innovation

MMJ
1307
Mass Commun in Society

ORGL
339
Legal Issues in Organizations

Term: Fall 2024 - 2 - 7 week terms - 18 credits
PSCI
2306
Texas Government

SHCB
300
Intro to Safety Studies

SHCB
301
Tech Wrtg & Comm in Saf & Heal

SHCB
310
Legal Aspec of Safety & Health

SHCB
320
Measures of Safety Performance

SHCB
330
Human Factors in Occupa Safety

Term: Spring 2025 - 15 credits
SHCB
340
Safety and Health Program Mgmt

SHCB
358
Essentials of Proj Mgmt

SHCB
410
Environmental Law and Mgmt

SHCB
430
Hazardous Materials

SHCB
499
Safety and Health Capstone

So, I was able to finish in less than 1 year after transferring 78 credits.  The cost was $3,000 ($750 per term).  It is my understanding that the cost is now $1000 per term, but since I started when it was $750, I was grandfathered in at that term price.  Overall, it felt like a good value, and I am happy with the result.  Now, I am looking into graduate programs.

For anyone on the fence, just start... there's no time like the present!

WGU BA or MAT Teaching (Elementary & Special Ed)
Posted by: hmichelle - 02-17-2025, 04:03 PM - Forum: WGU - Western Governors University Discussion - Replies (2)

Hello all, I am looking for advice as someone who has a BA already in Marketing. I want to become a Teacher and am wondering if it is advisable to do the Elementary Education Master's at WGU if my BA is in an unrelated field. Do I need experience or prior knowledge in Teaching to be successful in this MAT at WGU? Would it be wiser to just get another BA in Teaching, if I go the WGU (online education) route?

Thank you in advance for your help!  Smile

Can I get courses added to a transcript for free?
Posted by: evanmonast - 02-17-2025, 01:12 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Hey all, I am wondering if there is any school out there that would let me transfer a few Sophia courses and put them on a transcript for free. I am in the military and earning a few college credits helps me towards my next promotion.
I have my BOG associates from Pierpont which was free at the time and my BAS from UMPI. If I “reapplied” to these schools could I then have them add 4 Sophia courses to my transcript without applying them toward a degree and having to pay for tuition? Or any other school?
I only need the courses put on a transcript and I do not need them to actually be applied to any degree as I’ve already transferred and applied 90 credits in the past.

  BA in Religion
Posted by: Atalanta - 02-16-2025, 11:28 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (8)

Your Location: Canada (Toronto)
Your Age: 55
What kind of degree do you want?: BA in Religion from TESU. Eventually I would like to work up to a doctoral degree, but this appears to be a cheaper option to start with than attending a divinity school, even an online one. Plus it gives me a lot more flexibility in my choice of courses and doesn’t force me to subscribe to any particular creed.
Current Regional Accredited Credits: None yet
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None yet
Any certifications or military experience?: No
Budget: as low as possible.
Commitments: I am a full-time freelance translator and my work commitments can vary wildly from week to week.
Dedicated time to study: Varies depending on workload.
Timeline: No hurry; this is more of a bucket list thing than something I really need.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Self-funded, probably.

Hello everyone,

I have been lurking and reading your posts for quite a while now, and the wealth of information is truly amazing, it has been an enormous help! Now it’s my turn to introduce myself and ask a question.

I already have a Bachelor’s degree in Music and a Master’s degree in Translation Studies, both of which I obtained from universities in the UK. I have a hankering to work up to a doctorate, but there are no affordable doctoral degrees in translation, and the academic side of music frankly bores me to tears. However, I am fascinated by religious studies and also took some courses in this area while I was doing my Bachelor’s.

After a lot of research and deliberation, I’ve decided I’d like to do the BA in Religion offered by TESU, for the reasons I outlined in the template. According to the program requirements ( https://www.tesu.edu/degrees-programs/ba...ligion.php ), I will need 24 credits in religion, but these will have to be transferred from elsewhere. I was wondering if anyone else has done this program and can tell me where they got these credits from?

In this area, I am keen to focus on New Testament theology and early Christianity, including a course on New Testament Greek if I can find one. I have already found a couple of interesting courses at ASU, and there’s one at Athabasca here in Canada that I would love to do, but…. it all adds up to an awful lot of money. If anyone has any tips on where I can find courses in religion and theology that offer transferable credit at a reasonable price, I’d be really grateful. And of course, it would be great to hear about your experiences with this program in general.

Many thanks in advance!

Fastest Way to Bachelor (it's really just a bucket list item)
Posted by: chris.erhardt14 - 02-16-2025, 04:45 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (22)

Hi all, I am a 37 year old Business & Management Consultant. Canadian citizen but living full time in Texas. I never finished college. I started a business, dropped out, the business became successful, I exited and then started consulting entrepreneurs and businesses on becoming more efficient via automation and AI. I don't need a degree. None of my clients care about a degree, but for some reason, it always somewhat bothered me not having finished my bachelor's. I even tried going back to school while I was building my startup but that didn't work at all lol. So, now that I no longer have my startup, I think I have the capacity to tackle this once more. I absolutely do not care about the degree. What I want is the FASTEST way to accomplish this with the least amount of time commitment on my end (I do still work full time in consulting). Below are the credits I already have. Not sure if any of these would transfer since some of them are very old and my overall GPA is terrible lol. If one of you could take a look and let me know which path to take, that would be great. Also, if one of you could build a degree plan with Sophia, Study.com courses or tests I can take to earn credit, so I can knock out those before enrolling anywhere. Happy to pay you if you can do this for me (DM me to discuss payment, etc.).
