Help I need a degree plan
Posted by: LifelongLearner36 - 09-27-2024, 09:36 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (8)

I need a bachelors to check the box and I think a Liberal Studies degree would be the best fit for me but I am getting overwhelmed with all the class choices.  I was looking at doing a concentration of the social sciences as that interests me.  I want to do it all online.  I'd like to stick with Sophia and Study.com but open to CLEP I just don't want to make it too complicated.  So a simple degree plan for this would be ideal and I'd be willing to do something different if it keeps it simple.  I looked at the BSBA for TESU and it looks doable because all the classes are spelled out but I'd rather just get a Liberal Studies as it seems more interesting.  Thanks for any help

Your Location: Indiana
Your Age: 36
What kind of degree do you want?: Bachelors in Liberal Studies
Current Regional Accredited Credits: Some spanish, college algebra, intro to circuits
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None
Any certifications or military experience?: No
Commitments: I have a fulltime job and kids.
Budget: Ideally less than 10k, but flexible.
Dedicated time to study: 2 hours per day
Timeline: One year or so
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: No

Hey yo,

Was wondering if I have done IBM Full Stack Software Dev and Google Cloud Cybersecurity, will all 21 credits come in or are CYB-1999: Special Topics in Information and ITS-2999 Special Topics in Information the same subject?

A little confused the past couple of days planning everything out. Especially when I can't find the 999:'Special Topics' subjects anywhere on TESU's page.

How updated is the Wiki and should I take all the information that's on it and plan with that since that's what I've been doing.

Last question for now I guess, does introduction to ethics on Sophia count toward the Ethical Leadership general ed. I know that the wiki says yes but just wanted more firm confirmation?

Leveraging an existing BA for another BA?
Posted by: ezmac028 - 09-26-2024, 03:12 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (11)

Hi folks - new forum member here and just dipping my toes into ways to quickly and efficiently get an additional degree.

I have a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara (College of Letters & Sciences; Film & Media Studies major - I also jumped majors a few times, so a lot of general education and humanities classes as part of that) that graduated from way back in 2007.

Are there schools here (like "the Big Three") that will just let me skip their general education requirements based on the classes I already took from this existing BA back in the day?

I also have a fair amount of FEMA and FEMA adjacent (eg TEEX) both in person and independent study courses too.  Is there a path to a quick degree combining this with my previous BA?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is a dumb question!

  UMPI MAOL
Posted by: kakasahib - 09-26-2024, 02:05 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (2)

Hello Team,
Any suggestion for the UMPI MAOL. I recently received the UMPI yourpace BLS Degree and transfer 90 credits and completed 15 courses including 3 MAOL transfer course.
I completed all 15 UMPI courses in 6 weeks.
I am hoping to nail all 9 MAOL courses and i am looking for some guidance.
The same type of guidance was very helpful where many of you suggested to submit the assignment for review and send email to advisor to open a course and start working on new course asap.
This helped me to complete 15 courses (45) credits in 6 week.
Appreciate any suggestion/help/advice.
Thanks

  BACompSci Questions
Posted by: bughead - 09-26-2024, 06:37 AM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (7)

I'm looking into the BA CompSci degree at TESU and just had a couple of questions since I'm from Australia and aren't too familiar with the U.S school system.

  1. Should I be taking all my ACE credits first and then applying? Or should I apply and talk to a course advisor to know which credits will transfer?
  2. I've done quite a lot of research into degree hacking but wanted some clarification on the Electives portion of the degree. Can I choose any subject to complete the electives portion? For the CompSci electives, what is classified one of those? And for the Natural Sciences/Math/CompSci electives, can I choose any subject from those disciplines?
  3. I have tried to choose more enjoyable General Education subjects for myself and wondered if I'm allowed to do that.
I have also made my own spreadsheet to try to plan a full fledged program. If you had a minute to take a look I would really appreciate it. I'm really low on money and want to get everything right so I don't have to be taking unnecessary courses.

TESU Speadsheet - I've attached it as well.

  2E Requirement Question
Posted by: klone - 09-26-2024, 01:15 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (1)

My wife has just begun her journey with Sophia Learning and UMPI, and she wants to know if she needs to complete both Art History I and II on Sophia Learning to meet the 2E requirement at UMPI. Can she take just Art History II (without Touchstones), or does she need to complete both courses?

Additionally, I would like to confirm whether Visual Communications still fulfills the 2D requirement. Thank you!
