  Sample Transcript from Pierpont Needed
Posted by: Heath - 06-21-2024, 01:31 PM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (7)

Before taking Sophia, Straighterline.com or Study.com I am asking my local university for a bachelor’s if they will accept the credits.

Originally they said no, but if it comes from an RA college they said maybe. They want to see an example of what the classes look like on the transcript before they tell me yes or no.

Does anyone have a picture of thier transcript (info omitted), so I can show it to the university as an example of how Pierpont transcribes ACE? That's where I'm enrolled for classes and to send ACE.

Are they showing graded or pass fail? Both?

The college I'm asking is NMU, Northern Michigan for anyone wondering.

Thanks.

Affordable Online Data Science and Programming Degrees from IIT Madras (India)
Posted by: OtterDen - 06-21-2024, 09:55 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

I was searching affordable computer science related courses that is delivered online. I want to learn linear algebra, discrete math, programming while having an exam to prove I have that knowledge. This is more of a personal learning process, but it also makes up my future applying to master plan. These courses will prepare me the knowledge required and a transcript for the courses might help with the application as well. US community college is ridiculously expensive for international students. Then, I search for Indian institutions as India is known as a country that is skilled in computer science related industry.

Here comes the IIT Madras. Academics - IIT Madras Degree Program

IIT Madras offers an innovative and affordable online degree program in Data Science and Programming, ideal for international students seeking flexibility and a comprehensive education.    - Cost: ₹62,500 (~$750 USD) per diploma
   - Diploma in Programming Courses: Database Management Systems, Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms using Python, Modern Application Development I & II, System Commands, Programming Concepts using Java.
   - Diploma in Data Science Courses: Machine Learning Foundations, Business Data Management, Machine Learning Techniques, Machine Learning Practice, Business Analytics, Tools in Data Science.
   - Projects: Integrated projects to provide hands-on experience.

3. BSc Degree Level:
   - Credits: 28 credits
   - Cost: ₹64,000 - ₹70,000 (~$760 - $840 USD) for BSc with a total of 28 credits
   - Requirement: Completion of Foundation and Diploma levels.
   - Outcome: BSc Degree in Programming and Data Science from IIT Madras.

4. BS Degree Level:
   - Credits: 28 credits
   - Cost: ₹94,000 - ₹1,24,000 (~$1124 - $1483 USD) for BS with a total of 28 credits
   - Requirement: Completion of 114 credits from the previous levels.
   - Outcome: BS Degree in Data Science and Applications from IIT Madras.

Key Features:

- Flexibility: The program is highly flexible, allowing students to pay only for the courses they register for each term. This is particularly beneficial for international students who can balance their studies with other commitments.
- Online and Proctored Exams: Courses are delivered online, and international students can take proctored exams remotely, though additional fees apply for this convenience.
- Comprehensive Curriculum: The program includes foundational courses, advanced diplomas, and degree-level courses, ensuring a thorough understanding of both programming and data science. This ensures students are well-prepared for the industry or further academic pursuits.
- Affordability: Compared to similar programs globally, the cost is significantly lower, making it accessible to a wider audience. This is a great advantage for students who are looking for high-quality education at a reasonable price.
- Recognized Certification: Graduates receive certificates, diplomas, or degrees from IIT Madras, a prestigious institution known for its high academic standards. This adds substantial value to their qualifications and can significantly enhance their career prospects.

Pros of the Program:

1. Cost-Effective: The program is affordable, with a clear fee structure that allows students to manage their expenses term by term. The total cost is significantly lower than similar programs offered by other institutions, especially in the western countries.
2. High Flexibility: Students have the flexibility to choose their pace of study. They can take up to four courses per term and have the option to spread their coursework over several years, depending on their personal and professional commitments.
3. Comprehensive and Intensive: The program is designed to be rigorous and comprehensive, covering all essential areas of data science and programming. It includes weekly assignments, monthly quizzes, and end-term exams to ensure consistent learning and retention of knowledge.
4. Global Accessibility: International students can benefit from the online delivery of courses and the option to take proctored exams remotely. This makes it easier for students from different parts of the world to enroll and complete the program without having to relocate.
5. Reputed Certification: Earning a degree or diploma from IIT Madras, one of India's top engineering institutions, is highly prestigious. It enhances the credibility and recognition of the qualifications, providing a competitive edge in the global job market.
6. Project-Based Learning: The inclusion of projects in the diploma courses ensures that students gain practical experience and can apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems. This hands-on approach is crucial for developing the skills required in the industry.
7. Multiple Exit Points: The program offers multiple exit points, allowing students to receive a certificate, diploma, or degree based on the credits they have earned. This flexibility can be particularly useful for students who may need to pause their studies due to personal or professional reasons.

Sidenote: After some research in the Indian subreddits, this program is known for its difficulty. A lot of work and thorough understanding of the topic is required.

  Accepted TEEX Courses
Posted by: colonelcamp - 06-21-2024, 08:00 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (7)

Hi Everyone,

I can't remember who it was, but I was asked to update the forum when I knew which TEEX courses would be accepted so the wiki could be updated. I did all the TEEX courses that showed as counting towards ACE credits (25 credits) plus 15 credits for the Google IT Professional cert for a total of 40 credits. I saw in some places that the Google cert only counted for 12 credits at UMPI, but it is 15. At least for me and I don't think I'm special :-).

WGU vs UMPI for law school
Posted by: TONY SOPRANOxPEPPER ANNE - 06-20-2024, 11:42 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (28)

The Law School Admissions Counsel (LSAC) states that in order to have an undergrad GPA, you need to have 60 graded credits from a regionally accredited institution.

The only issue with UMPI is that I'm a bit more than a year from their minimum age requirement.

WGU is on a pass/fail system, meaning my GPA would be null.

With UMPI, I could get 60 ungraded courses from Sophia, then (hopefully) Ace the remaining 20 courses at the university.

Thoughts/opinions?

Also, If I go to UMPI is there anyway to prepare besides taking more ACE credits for the next year?

I would also dedicate 40-50 hours per week for either school, would it be possible to finish 60 credits in one of the
non-technical (businessadmin/liberal arts) programs in 6 months?

Dual Enrolled: GSU MASS and UoPEOPLE M.ED
Posted by: TINASAM - 06-20-2024, 11:03 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (3)

If anyone has any questions about either of these programs, I'm here to offer any insight. I know that most of this forum is laser-focused on IT and Business Administration, and thought that social science and education insight may be of use.
I've completed two semesters (out of 4 for me) at Georgia Southern University in their MASS program, thesis track. I've also begun a Master of Education in Advanced Teaching (Secondary Education track) at UoPeople this term. I'll be doing one course a term and it will take 13 terms or a little over 2.5 years.

  PMP practice quizzes or exams
Posted by: Kjnova - 06-20-2024, 10:42 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

I have been approved to take the PMP exam. I bought Andrew Ramdayal's book, which includes access to practice exam questions. I have not finished reading the book, but I'm working on it, along with other unrelated stuff (preparing for UMPI classes beginning July 1).

I learn well by repeatedly taking practice quizzes, ideally around 20 questions each so I see the feedback faster and more often, and then seeing what I got right or wrong, and trying again. To me, that is a more efficient way to learn than by reading ~450 pages of material. My perfect world would be if there was a bank of 500 realistic PMP test questions and I could keep taking random 20-question quizzes drawn from that bank and seeing the correct answers after the quiz. Then when I start getting 100% many times in a row, I feel ready for the real exam.

Any suggestions on how to study, aside from via the Ramdayal book and its bundled practice questions?

I will add, I have a great deal of Agile experience, but not as much of what I would call traditional PMP type experience, so a lot of the terminology is new to me.

Thanks!

Any certifications or military experience? Pursuing CompTIA CySA

Budget:
I have up to $10,000 in savings to dedicate to my education, but I am prioritizing the most affordable options available.
Commitments:
I work full-time and have family responsibilities, but I can dedicate a significant amount of time to my studies during evenings and weekends. I estimate at least 27 hours of study time per week.
Timeline:
I aim to complete the degree as quickly as possible, preferably within 2 terms.
Tuition Assistance:
I am exploring tuition assistance options through my employer, which may cover some or all of the costs. I am awaiting clarification on whether this program includes test-out options or is limited to traditional courses.
Background:
I hold an Associate's Degree with over 73 credits in general education, electives, and computer/networking courses. I have experience working in IT in roles such as IT Customer Support, IT Specialist, and Assistant IT Director. I am currently pursuing a CompTIA CySA+ certification.
Learning Preferences:
I am comfortable with self-paced learning and prefer competency-based programs with non-proctored assessments. While I can perform well on exams, I prefer open-book tests and experience some anxiety with proctored exams. I am adaptable and can learn both independently and collaboratively, but prioritize independent learning to accelerate my progress.
Degree Preference:
I am open to either IT Management or Cybersecurity, leaning towards Cybersecurity if it aligns better with my skillset and career goals AND can be “hacked” as well as the alternative.

Inexpensive Sources for Transfer Credits for MSW
Posted by: Lydclrk - 06-19-2024, 06:16 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (10)

Hello!

Thanks to this forum I finished my Bachelor's - you guys are the best!

Now I am applying for MSW (Master's in Social Work) programs.

I am trying to do this for the least amount of $$ or the quickest time for a CSWE accredited program.

I see a few programs that take as many as 15 transfer credits for the MSW.

Does anyone know of a source for inexpensive MSW credits that I can use to transfer?  It looks like most programs that accept MSW transfer credits accept any accredited program credits.

Thanks in advance for your help!
