UIUC (Illinois) iMBA - is there a gotcha?
Posted by: Kjnova - 06-19-2024, 04:10 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (36)

I'm not ready to apply for an MBA or master's yet, but hope to get there soon. I've been looking at options, and I notice that the University of Illinois has an iMBA program that is fully online, with a total price of around $25K.

More importantly for me, they do what I would love to see more schools do: They offer a path to admission for people who might not meet their normal criteria. They have a performance-based admissions program that allows you to enter without meeting their usual requirements, and take three classes. If you have good grades in those classes, you can be admitted to the full MBA program.

More info:
https://giesonline.illinois.edu/explore-...ions-track

Since I would anticipate applying as a BLS grad/Management minor from a less competitive RA university (UMPI), this stands out to me. I don't know if they waive all other requirements. For example, I don't know if they require a certain number of qualitative courses as an undergrad even via this program. But I am hopeful that I might qualify for it.

I don't know a lot about the University of Illinois system, but I think this is the flagship school of the system, the Illini. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Are there any drawbacks to this program relative to others of similar cost? It's not the cheapest MBA you can get, and probably not the easiest, but comparing with peer universities, it seems to offer a lot in terms of cost and accessibility.

Real? OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Accounting and Finance
Posted by: David1477 - 06-19-2024, 01:14 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

Hi guys,

I respect your sharp analytical skills to evaluate education providers and would like to hear your opinion about an offer I am considering: https://sbusinesslondon.ac.uk/courses/ot...nd-finance

I talked to the admissions adviser of the School of Business & Technology London, and after checking my transcripts + CV, they told me I am eligible for their OTHM Level 7 Diploma due to professional experience, even though I don't have a bachelor's degree.

Their price of 908£ seems good but realistic. They said the program is planned for 12 months but can be completed faster since it is self-paced. I asked if there are any limits to how fast I can go, and the advisor said 5–6 months is possible.

The advisor had an Indian name, but I guess that is pretty common for OTHM/Qualifi course providers in the UK. At least it seemed incredibly common to me.

All of these online course providers for Level 7 Diplomas are pretty small, and it is hard to evaluate their credibility since the web doesn't have much information about them.

I checked them on the OTHM "approved center" list and found them: https://othm.org.uk/listingcenter?cn=DC2009447 - I guess that's a good sign.

I know that there is a lot of scamming and fake stuff going on with such diplomas in the UK. Do you guys see any red flags with this offering, or do you think it is an authentic and safe provider?

I am afraid of dumping 900£ for something fake, and I am not too familiar with the UK education system, so I hope somebody here can help me evaluate whether I don't need to worry going along with this offer or whether I should stay away from it.

Interesting indeed... Apparently, this is 'old' news, but seems to be reported again earlier this year.

Best/Fastest degree plan for a BS CS
Posted by: VBStan4 - 06-19-2024, 11:28 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (6)

Your Location: Netherlands
Your Age: 18 (19 in a few weeks)
What kind of degree do you want?: CS or IT related
Current Regional Accredited Credits: 0
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: No. I'll take them once I build a degree plan.
Any certifications or military experience? No
Budget: I'd like to go the cheapest route possible.
Commitments: I work with my dad part-time, but I can study full-time.
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: No. All costs would be paid by me.

I want to get a CS degree quickly, but I have no credits to transfer Sad . I saw someone suggest an SNHU CS degree to a person who had no credits. Even though I've not made a firm decision on this, I'd likely pursue an on-campus Master's degree, probably in the UK, US, Germany, or maybe here in the Netherlands. Please guide me in building a degree plan. Thank you for your assistance.

Not sure if any programs are CBE and do not require exams but rather papers? Does anyone know of any?

  Doctoral Study Options
Posted by: kb24bi8 - 06-19-2024, 10:12 AM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (1)

Hi! It is me again. I have given up on Apollos and GGU since they may not fit my need.

Initially, I chose two universities in Malaysia: INTI DBA and USM PHD+DBA
Since my case is a bit "Unique". I got professional qualification but without master degree.

And currently,
INTI has confirmed my eligibility
USM has not. But from most recent update, I am told that they are yet to admit students with professional qualification into doctoral program (which means possibility of failure)

I have also thought of some options in UK "because I have waited too long for the Malaysian side for a reply"
Arden University has confirmed my eligibility for their Msc top up.
And I was also confirmed eligibility for a OTHM Level 8 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice.

Shall I go for the Level 8 diploma? This is the fastest track for a doctorate. However I am not sure which school will offer the dissertation only option. I am aiming at some middle standing school such as  Anglia Ruskin University or UCLAN.

  Happy Juneteenth!
Posted by: Charles Fout - 06-19-2024, 08:26 AM - Forum: Off Topic - No Replies

"On “Freedom’s Eve,” or the eve of January 1, 1863, the first Watch Night services took place. On that night, enslaved and free African Americans gathered in churches and private homes all across the country awaiting news that the Emancipation Proclamation had taken effect. At the stroke of midnight, prayers were answered as all enslaved people in Confederate States were declared legally free. Union soldiers, many of whom were black, marched onto plantations and across cities in the south reading small copies of the Emancipation Proclamation spreading the news of freedom in Confederate States. Only through the Thirteenth Amendment did emancipation end slavery throughout the United States."

"But not everyone in Confederate territory would immediately be free. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later. Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas."

PSY-360 Organizational Theory Lower Level Equivilent?
Posted by: Sargoththemino - 06-18-2024, 11:02 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - No Replies

I have five classes (15 units) left on my BSBA Organization Leadership at TESU. I already took the cornerstone and I am thinking of taking 4 TESU courses in the last semester to hit residency.

I already have: MAN-2350 Intro to Project Management (LL) and MAN-3720 International Management (UL)

I want to take 3 e-pack courses and the capstone in the final semester for residency and to save money for the full time discount.

MAN-3110 Organizational Behavior (UL) e-pack
MAN-3310 Human Resources Management (UL) e-pack
PSY-3630 Industrial Psychology (UL) e-pack
BUS-4210 Business Administration Capstone (UL)

This leaves me with one class to bring in "PSY-3600 Organizational Theory" (a required course). I know I can take Business 323: Organizational Theory (UL) at Study.com but I noticed I have only taken one lower level course when I can take two. Does anyone know any lower level course I can transfer in to meet the PSY-3600 Organizational Theory requirement? This class and the capstone are my only two classes with assignments so if I can find a lower level course that I can test out of it will speed me along. Otherwise I'll just take the Study.com class.

Also, I've never taken an e-pack course so any feedback on difficulty level of the three I'm taking would be appreciated. Thanks

Best plan to get credentials in accounting? Have a BSW and MPA
Posted by: FreeAgnes - 06-18-2024, 10:31 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (10)

Hi everyone! Long time listener, first time caller

Your Location: North Carolina, United States.

Your Age: 45

What kind of degree do you want?: Any, including post-grad certs. I'm open to an entry-level/non-BA master's program. I want to add additional credentials for accounting to move out of the human/social services world. I want to use my MPA in a less direct-interaction-with-the-public way Big Grin . I have been advised by several people that accounting will open more doors in government. I would like to get credits that could be used for a MAcct. if I choose to get one later.

Current Regional Accredited Credits
Abilene Christian University, BSW, 2001
University of North Texas, MPA, 2003

I have taken classes at other universities before but I honestly don't remember what they were (10 yrs ago-ish). None of them were in an accounting or finance discipline though.

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None

Any certifications or military experience? Nope

Budget: I'd like to go the cheapest route possible, but will consider spending more for easy and fast.

Commitments: Honestly, just my pets. I currently work full time and can work on my studies part time or in the evenings/weekends.

Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as needed during the night or weekends. I have no social life to speak of. I estimate at least 3 hours every week night and on the weekends, maybe 6 hours, total would be roughly 15+12=27 hours or slightly more.

Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal.  I would like to finish in 6 mos-1 yr if possible because I am so burnt out from social services, but I'm not really on a fixed time table.

Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None

Thank you for your help!
