  Successful BALS - Thanks
Posted by: resistk - 06-17-2024, 03:40 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (2)

Thanks for all the help and advice.  Just got my BALS in the mail from TESU. Without learning how to do here, a BA would have likely taken me another year and 25K more. Best part was TESU gave me upper division credit for studying abroad as an independent student through another US university program.  I just wish I had known about TESU and Degree Forum before I started college - I could have done 3 summers abroad instead of two.

For veterans and their families - please share
Posted by: NAP - 06-17-2024, 11:06 AM - Forum: Military Discussion - No Replies

Hi,

I am really excited to share this with you! It has been such an unexpected and valuable blessing for some of my family and friends.

More military veterans are eligible for VA benefits through several law changes in the last few years. I recently had the opportunity to learn about this and provide support for a family member and friend through the VA application process.  It is nice to know that they have some extra support to help them, like VA healthcare (many veterans), VA disability (serviced connected medical-based), or VA pension (financial need-based safety net).

I have compiled links to resources that were helpful and created this webpage:

https://www.OIResource.com/vets.htm

I hope this information is helpful and encourages many more veterans to pursue their claims successfully! Please keep it for future reference, and thank you sharing for this with all of the veterans (from any era) in your life!

  New TAMUC Competency-Based Programs?
Posted by: RbxFunRocks - 06-16-2024, 08:23 PM - Forum: General "Big 3", B&M colleges, and other colleges - Replies (10)

Earlier today, I was scrolling through the TAMUC website when I found 2 new CBE programs listed that I've never seen before:

  • Public Administration, City Planning (BAAS)
  • Human Resource Development (BAAS)
Both programs are so new, they don't even have any actual pages set up yet (their pages redirect to the main homepage).

Students & Teachers - Free Microsoft Office 365
Posted by: bjcheung77 - 06-16-2024, 06:07 PM - Forum: Free Courses and Certificates and Good Deals - Replies (4)

Just a reminder for those who didn't know already, if you are attending an institution (RA, I think some NA or private learning centers, may even have it) - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/educatio...cts/office

The 'basic MS office suite' options are what's needed, options that may require an install onto the PC such as Access and Publisher is not included.  This would work well for those who want to have or may want to use collaboration tools such as MS Teams and other MS apps as well...

For those who want an even more basic option, the 'home version', you just need to have an MS account (Hotmail.com or Outlook.com), you get 15G of storage and can access MS office suite features, but not the 'full blown features' available on the 365, it's a slimmed down yet workable version.

Planning way ahead and stuck on psychology licensure
Posted by: kmao2004 - 06-16-2024, 08:18 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Hi everyone,

I'm really lose on which school I go to. I have accumulated over 140 credits over the years and an AA in general studies. I plan to use Sophia or somewhere to cover anything you suggest as easier outside of a suggest college.

My big thing is I want a school who will lead towards licensure. From what I can tell it means they will arrange where you go for your practicum and all your supervision. I really need that.

Has anyone gone through a college online like this? If you didn't, but you still made it through your master's program and figured out your own internship how did you do it?

Thanks for your help.

Assistance with Credit Transfer & Fast, Affordable & Efficient Degree Completion Plan
Posted by: PositiveSoul - 06-16-2024, 03:49 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (9)

Hi there,

I hope you are doing well.

I have been following this board for a long time, and today I am reaching out to inquire about the credit transfer process and to seek assistance in maximizing my previously earned credits toward the completion of my Bachelor's Degree. I have found your postings very insightful.

Introduction and Historical Academic Efforts:

At 53 years old, my academic journey to complete a Bachelor's Degree has been ongoing since 1990. I hold an MBA from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, and a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) from California Southern University. Despite having advanced degrees, some employers still require a Bachelor's Degree, hence I have embarked on this journey. My undergraduate coursework completed abroad has been rigorously evaluated by the Center for Applied Research, Evaluations, & Education, Inc., a respected member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) since 1987.

Evaluation Report Courses and Credits:

  • Accounting - 5 semester hours
  • Business Communication & Report Writing - 5 semester hours
  • Business Mathematics & Statistics - 5 semester hours
  • Economics - 5 semester hours
  • Introduction to Business - 5 semester hours
  • Religious Studies - 5 semester hours
  • Travel & Tourism Environment & Framework - 4 semester hours
  • Travel Geography - 4 semester hours
  • Passenger Transport Management - 4 semester hours
  • Retail Travel Operations - 4 semester hours
  • Management Operations - 4 semester hours
  • People, Communications & Technology - 4 semester hours
  • German - 4 semester hours
Previous Evaluations and Credit Transfer Offers:

Based on the comprehensive evaluation by the Center for Applied Research:
  • Capella University: Recognized and awarded me 79.5 quarter credits, with specific achievements noted in Humanities (6 credits) and Social Science (6 credits) among other areas.
  • Pepperdine University: Credited me with 59 units across various disciplines including Business, Economics, and Humanities.
  • Azusa Pacific University: Transferred 58 units towards my degree, detailed in General Studies and specific business-related courses.
These evaluations and recognitions by other institutions substantiate the level and rigor of my academic pursuits.

Certifications and Professional Qualifications:

My professional development includes certifications such as:
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)®, PMI - Capella offered me more than 40 quarter credits for PMP as it accepts more than 50 various certifications
  • Certified SAFe® 6 Agile Product Manager
  • Product Manager Certificate, Product School, Silicon Valley
  • Business Analyst Certificate Program, University of California, Irvine
  • Human Resources Management Certification, California State University, Long Beach
  • FEMA - Emergency Management Institute and National Fire Academy (NFA) - Independent Study Courses - U.S. Fire Administration [8 Certificates]
    • IS-00003 Radiological Emergency Management - 1.0 CEU
    • IS-00007 A Citizen's Guide to Disaster Assistance - 1.0 CEU
    • IS-00100 Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS 100) - 0.3 CEU
    • IS-00340 Hazardous Materials Prevention - 1.0 CEU
    • IS-00513 The Professional in Emergency Management - 1.0 CEU
    • IS-00650 Building Partnerships in Tribal Communities - 1.0 CEU
    • IS-00700 National Incident Management System (NIMS) an Introduction - 0.3 CEU
My Ultimate Goal:

I am looking into getting Pierpont Community & Technical College's Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) and then transferring it to the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) for their Bachelor's Degree. I have already emailed Nancy Parks. I am ready to use Sophia and other CBE alternatives to maximize my credits.

Any other suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I just would like to get maximum credits for my previous undergraduate coursework, my professional certifications, and FEMA courses towards the completion of a Regionally Accredited Bachelor's degree efficiently, economically, and expeditiously.

Thank you for considering my request. I am looking forward to your guidance on the necessary steps to proceed with my application and any additional requirements.

Best regards,

PositiveSoul

Looking for advice on choosing a degree for a career change
Posted by: frankc - 06-15-2024, 07:03 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (12)

Hello guys. My wife is a dancer, but she has been unhappy in her current career and has been considering a career change for several years now. She's now seriously considering getting a degree, even if it takes a few years.

Here’s what she’s looking for:

  1. A degree from a reputable traditional school: She’s not interested in "check-the-box" degrees from schools like TESU, EU, or WGU. She wants a recognizable degree from a traditional school that she can do online, such as programs like Georgetown on Coursera or Penn State World.
  2. Good job prospects: She wants a degree that will "guarantee" a job, though I’ve told her that’s nearly impossible unless she pursues something in the medical field like Rad Tech or Nursing.
  3. No interest in CS or SWE degrees: Although a CS or SWE degree would be great (and something I could definitely help her with), she’s just not interested. I've tried teaching her programming over the past few years, but it's not her thing. And also, she hates Math lol.
So at first, she considered a two-year full-time Rad Tech program because it seems to offer good job prospects and job security. However, she’s concerned about the risk of failing a course and then get kick out and the financial and time investment required.
After some research, we’re now considering Penn State World Campus’s Bachelor of Design in Digital Multimedia Design degree for several reasons:
  1. Reputation: Penn State World Campus is part of Penn State’s multi-campus system, so her degree would be the same as one from an on-campus program, unlike degrees from rebranded places like Purdue Global or University of Arizona Global (for-profit).
  2. Transfer credit: Penn state world seems to accept up to 90 transfer credits, including ACE credits, which can make the degree more affordable and quicker to complete. However, we’re still unsure how many credits from places like Study.com or Sophia they accept in practice.
We're also not entirely sure what this degree will lead to, but I think it might be related to UX design. She's not particularly interested in anything specific yet, but the name of this degree sounded interesting enough to her.

We’d appreciate any suggestions for other universities or programs. Thank you!

Location: USA
Age: 30
What kind of degree do you want?: A degree from a reputable traditional school, with good job prospects. (need to be an online program)
Current Regional Accredited Credits: 0
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:  0
Any certifications or military experience? None
Budget: It doesn't have to be the cheapest option
Commitments: While there may be some months where she needs to work 5 days a week, most of the time she works just 2 to 3 days a week.
Dedicated time to study: Not sure
Timeline: It doesn't need to be too fast. A timeline of 2 to 4 years seems reasonable. Since she wants to switch careers, not just get a degree. She plans to work on projects and might do an internship while studying.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None

  Trasnfer Credit Report Completed
Posted by: colonelcamp - 06-15-2024, 04:35 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (8)

Hi Everyone,

I just got back my completed report. Can anybody help me make sense of it? I don't understand the GLO and LO codes. I see some credits that have these codes next to them and some transferred credits that don't have any code next to it.

Thanks!

Sad New member overwhelmed by the all infos...
Posted by: TR_mahmutpek - 06-15-2024, 12:53 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Hello everybody. First of all, its really nice to see that this kind of knowledge base and extremely helpful people exist.  Angel

Here is my situtation, I have completed medicine, have Master of Science degree but realized that this was wrong career choice for me. I always wanted Computer Science but it was too late at that point (long story) so I completed medicine. I'm looking to get Computer Science undergraduate degree easily. In my country you have to work for the university exam which is hard and cumbersome.

So anyway, I stumbled onto this forum. Before posting this I tried to understand the concepts, read the wiki but couldn't grasp much of it :/ I still have questions. Sad

1. I live in Turkey, it is possible to get degree fully online? Do I have to go to USA? And what about the payment, will there be some trouble? (I have money to pay 5k-10k$ for degree)

2. Appereantly you can get credits by study.com or sophia.com. So you take the exams/assigments from there. This means you can finish it fully online? No need to go to the universities for exams, right?

3. I have still have doubts about these online degree thing. Is this accredited on globally? Or any other nuances to consider?

Note: Quality of courses don't matter much since I was actually learning computer science by OSSU CS which has good quality online courses all around but I needed the diploma (paperworks...)

Also could you guys give some direction, its so easy to lost in all info here.. (because of medicine, I had no idea about these university concepts like credits, etc. for many years, medicine is extremely different from other subjects)
