D428 Design Thinking |

I just started this class, and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on it. I'm still reading thing class material, and it seems to use bits and pieces of definitions from different sources. I didn't know if the final project summarizes the definitions on how to do "Design Thinking", or if I need to memorize everything I am reading (some of which is contradictory).

I love this forum and just had my degree conferred on my transcripts. I received my Board of Governers with an Area of Emphasis in Applied Process Technology! I wouldn't have been able to do it without this forum! Hopefully onto my BAS with UMPI now!

Hi Everyone,
I have a bit of a dilema that I think the answer to is clear, but wanted to get thoughts from those that might possibly be in a similar situation.
I working towards the BOG AAS and then the BAS at UMPI. I applied for the BOG AAS and I'm getting closer and closer to being able to actually enroll at UMPI, BUT...
I've got a 17-year-old HS junior that will be applying to colleges in the fall. As of right now, he would be a first-gen applicant as I don't have any kind of degree and his mom (my wife) has an AAS. I'm not really sure what kind of scholarship he might receive just on the basis of being first-gen, so I don't want to screw that up for him (and my wallet!), so I'm trying to time my enrolling at UMPI and actually finishing for after he's done applying. We don't want him to lie AT ALL on his college apps, so my plan is to wait.
Anybody experience the same situation?

Hi! Any flexible non-general education college classes out there?
Location: California, United States
Age: 18
Seeking: (Upper-level) credits for bachelor’s degree from regionally accredited 4 year college/university
Currently have 60 CLEP/community college credits and 28 credits at the 4 year I currently attend.
I’m permitted to transfer in another 30 credits, but it has to be from another 4 year university. I heard about BYU Independent Study and it seems to be a good fit, but while I’m waiting to hear back from their scholarship office, I’m hoping to learn about other options that are out there.

Our son is planning to get the Pierpont AAS in Finance and then the BACS at TESU. He did the EDX Info Lit course for the SOS-101 at TESU for the BACS.
My question is: If he wants to add the Associates degree in Math from TESU, will the SOS-101 course from TESU (which he would have to do at the University rather than from EDX, because the latter cannot be used for the Associates in Math but only for the Associates in Computer Science) be waived based on his prior Associates degree from Pierpont?

Here are three students all from deprived/underdeveloped or "lower class level" areas of the UK... I don't know, Harvard and Cambridge are pretty neck and neck with each other for one of the students... I guess they want the US experience. Anyways, It's wonderful seeing young students, especially these ladies go into STEM fields such as computer science, engineering, etc.

Beware of fake institutions, rising from the ashes of real ones that have closed down recently... Here's an article, a few of the institutions have been talked about and one I've attended, JIU. It's interesting how these fake ones are popping up and people aren't aware of them being fake at all, be aware, do your due diligence and research...

Fall of 2U, from $5 billion evaluation to 30 million in just a few short years! Yes, these are the ones partnering with universities and also the ones who purchased edX. Hopefully something happens and saves them from collapse, otherwise, what would happen with edX and whatever else these are parent companies of...

I heard there's some online college degrees in the Mexican Veracruz State U university and checked the degrees they offer.
They have online bachelors in:
International Business administration
International Agrobusiness
Political Science
English Education
Education (Technology focus)
Art Education
Oil engineering
logistics and customs
Psychology
Masters degrees:
Chinese and Latin American economy and society (this one seems quite interesting. Never seen this degree elsewhere before).
Art education
Prevention of drug consumption (I assume this is a Clinical Psychology related masters degree?)
https://www.uv.mx/oferta-educativa/virtual/
For students that are fluent in Spanish, they might find this information to be useful. I quite find the Chinese masters interesting because they also include Chinese-Mexican history and Mandarin language courses.
I am looking at the website more closely and they accept international students, but at least for the masters degrees they require several things:
Pass both the Exanii II and Exanii III exam
English exam, they probably will be ok with a toefl
Apostillate and translate to Spanish Foreign bachelors degree
Bachelors requires a minimum gpa of 80 in the Mexican system, I will assume this is equivalent to 3.0 USA system.
2 letters of reccomendation
Curriculum vitae and reasons why applicant is interested in the program.
The chinese-Mexican masters lasts 2 years and charge 10,700 MXN per semester. They don't offer scholarships. Titulation and social community service can be done 100% online. Seems like graduation is via thesis
The prevention of drugs masters seems to be multidisciplinary, possibly also aimed at graduates of med school and public health. That degree lasts 2 years, requires a semestral payment of 12,000 MXN, entrance exam that costs 1165 mxn or mexican citizens and 3406 mxn for foreigners. Also must take an introduction course that costs 1500 MXN.
Checking the Oil Engineering online bachelors degree. Inscription costs 518.70 mxn for Mexicans and 2000 mnx for foreigners. Each course costs 580 mxn. Seems like they accept payments via credit card. The online degree is minimum 9 semesters max 14 semesters. Online degree seems to have 33 courses. I will assume a rough tuition estimate should be 19,140 mxn.

Howdy.
Ten days ago, I drove 2 1/2 hours to be able to walk across the stage to receive my BOG (with an AoE in Information Systems.) It was so nice to meet a bunch of my fellow BOG folks. In the commencement program, it looked like we had one of the biggest majors listed! It was nice to meet so many nontraditional students in general at the college.
I got to meet Nancy and Lisa in person and they are just as fabulous in person as they are over email. I thanked both of them immensely. The Pierpont faculty and staff are so friendly and helpful.
If you're anywhere within driving distance of Pierpont, I think you should graduate in person!
Once again, I want to thank everyone here at DegreeForum who was so supportive of me and helped me along this journey.
Now, onward and upward!

Dream Job to Entrepreneur... |

Over the last few months of the year, I've been reading MSN articles from Business Insider and CNBC Make It. Many people have gone from their dream jobs to being their own boss. I worked for NewsCorp from Dec 2000-May 2008, then IBM from June 2008 to Dec 2019, ultimately decided to go for many personal reasons...
Basically, I've been a consultant/contractor in business, education & IT for the last few years hovering around 80K, even though it's a pay cut from the near 100K I was making, I think there are trade offs, as long as you're alright with those trade offs, I think that's something to look into before jumping ship and making it on your own.
Work on your balanced mix/match trifecta of certs, degree, experience before deciding. Here's another couple of people who did something similar:

Link: I spent 6 years studying to become a chartered accountant. Then I gave it all up to become a soft-skills trainer. (msn.com)
Oh, and this guy travels 2 hours in the morning to work, and 2 hours back home! My goodness, I just can't go back to that... I love WFH too much!
