Associates by HS graduation… Guidance appreciated |

Hi all,
Okay I must be getting old I guess lol because I am now venturing into the college planning stage for my oldest. She is 15 and will be a sophomore in high school next year (she is homeschooled and is extremely diligent and organized with her work).
The goal (hopefully realistic) is to have her graduate her senior year of HS with both a high school and ASSOCIATES degree.
We would need the associates degree to be:
1) credits from REGIONALLY-ACCREDITED schools
2) LOWEST PRICE possible. I know money doesn’t matter for some but sadly it does for us haha. We really need the associates to be as low-cost out of pocket as possible.
3) no CLEP or AP courses.
Hope that makes sense. If anyone can shed any light or guidance, I would really appreciate it. Thanks all.

Pierpont Final Grades |

I did everything I needed to and submitted my application to graduate in May 2024 before the deadline. I did not physically attend the graduation and understand diplomas will be mailed by end of June. I got an email in my student account Outlook and it said final grades were posted last Thursday. I checked and it says “No grades on your record are available”. I already reached out to Pierpont and they suggested logging out and back on, which didn’t do anything . I haven’t heard back from them since. Is anyone else having this issue?

U.S. Department of Education considers a degree as a high school equivalency |

Hi, I'm turning 20, had a bad experience with my high school and unfortunately ended up not graduating. Now I am aware of tons of schools I can enroll in to get a degree due to me having (transfer credits) Sophia, but there are other schools that don't have transfer pathways or do but require to self-certify, high school completion. So I thought okay, as those schools have highschool diploma or equivalency as a requirement, I could get an associates degree first from a school that does not require that and then, if I want to enroll in one of those schools, I can. Though, with my communications with various schools, they don't consider a degree as a equivalency even though I later stumbled upon a U.S. Dept of Education page stating 60 credits or an associates to be an equivalency and explained as such. The TESU chat rep for example messaged saying that the chat has become unproductive and disconnected on me.
https://www2.ed.gov/policy/highered/reg/...ploma.html
"Recognized Equivalent of a High School Diploma (RED)
RED-Q1. The regulations at 34 CFR 600.2 include the definition of a “recognized equivalent of a high school diploma.” One of those equivalents is “an academic transcript of a student who has successfully completed at least a two-year program that is acceptable for full credit toward a bachelor’s degree.” Does this mean that any coursework that is at least two years or more is an acceptable equivalent of a high school diploma?
RED-A1. No. To be a “recognized equivalent of a high school diploma,” the two years of coursework must be acceptable for full credit toward a bachelor’s degree. The following are considered the equivalent of completing a "two-year program," regardless of the time it takes a student to complete the coursework (e.g., on an accelerated schedule):
Successful completion of an associate’s degree program;
Successful completion of at least 60 semester or trimester credit hours or 72 quarter credit hours that does not result in the awarding of an associate’s degree, but that is acceptable for full credit toward a bachelor’s degree at any institution; or
Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program where at least 60 semester or trimester credit hours or 72 quarter credit hours have been successfully completed, including credit hours transferred into the bachelor’s degree program.
[Guidance issued 1/24/2014; revised 7/7/2015]"
As said, I already have a list of schools for me to choose from and I have already chosen my school for my associates so it's not a issue in that regard, just upsetting that these schools refuse to acknowledge the U.S. Department of Education's policy.
Also, I am Canadian and in my province of Ontario, a degree is also considered an equivalency.
I am wondering if people have any thoughts on this, like if I was misinterpreting the policy or what's up with this

I have been searching all day but can not seem to find out if SNHU accepts the BOG degree. Does anyone know? I actually really would love to go to the University of Florid for Computer Science but I am waiting for an answer if they accept the BOG. I have taken enough Sophia credits for the BOG and now I am realizing it may not even matter.

Degree Planning - Help with Choosing UL POS classes |

Hi everyone,
I emailed my academic advisor to get access to view my updated degree audit/progress report. I also have been sent the YourPace catalog and I'm looking at my updated degree audit and realize that the POS 301 European Gov and EU, POS 332 Constitutional Law, POS 371 International Relations and Modern Conflicts and POS 493 Political Science Capstone don't "double-dip" for the requirement of 'Complete 18 credit hours of upper level (300-400 level) Political Science Courses'.
I have completed 9/18 credit hours of upper level courses (POS 335, 370, 343), which means I still need to complete three upper level political science courses. I am planning on completing POS 377 Modern China and POS 439 Vietnam Wars. That leaves me with one more upper level class to complete.
To illustrate better, here are all the POS classes listed in the YourPace Catalog and all the bolded ones are the classes I either have taken or am currently taking and then all the italicized ones are the classes I plan on taking.
- POS 101 American Government
- POS 211 Intro to Political Thought
- POS 301 European Governments and the European Union
- POS 332 Constitutional Law
- POS 335 Modern Political Thought
- POS 343 Marxism
- POS 370 Topics in Non-Western History: Native American History
- POS 370 Topics in Non- Western History: Arab-Israeli Conflict
- POS 371 International Relations and Modern Conflicts
- POS 377 Modern China
- POS 439 The Vietnam Wars
- POS 493 Political Science Capstone
So as you can see, this leaves me with only POS 370 Native American History. However, the dilemma is that I'm not keen on taking Native American History. But since it's the only class left that I haven't taken/plan to take, and I need one more upper level class, that means I have to.
My questions are: since I've already taken POS 370 Arab-Israeli Conflict, can I still take POS 370 Native American History? And are there any other upper level POS classes I can take, or is this just all of them?
I'm going to email my academic advisor about this as well, but I wanted to come here first for help.
Thanks.

F in high school but 4.0 college gpa |

Hi. I am a 16-year-old high school and college student.
With a part-time job, I earned A's this semester in 6 college and 2 AP classes, and 28 more credits through CLEP and portfolio assessments.
My summer goal is to pass Calculus I and II at Straighterline and complete two more college classes.
However, I have an online AP class that I never touched. I thought I would eventually catch up, but life happened: more work hours, extracurriculars, family responsibilities, etc.; and now I'm too late to withdraw from it. Last semester, I got an A on it, and I did great on the AP exam. There's still a week before the semester ends, and it would be a gargantuan task for me to pass it.
I changed schools, and now I don't have to pay tuition to finish college and high school next year. However, having an F would hurt my high school (but not college) GPA and make me a worse candidate for scholarships as a senior. I also would like to dedicate that week to Straighterline, which I'm actually paying for.
I'm doing two associate's degrees and I decided to finish my bachelor's at WGU, so I don't think having a high GPA is worth it anymore. Should I take that grade and move on or should I still make a last ditch effort to pass?

Help With Determining an Accounting Degree to Qualify to Take the CPA Exam |
Posted by: AccountingForThis - 05-17-2024, 05:12 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice
- Replies (11)

Hi! I’m interested in obtaining an accounting degree with the goal of becoming a CPA.
I would strongly prefer a program that provides official grades so that I can keep the option of attending graduate school open. The most important criteria, however, is that the degree meets the educational requirements to be eligible to take the CPA exam. Since this varies by state, it can be rather difficult to tell. Thus, I will be contacting my state board of public accountancy for more information. However, if anyone has information about qualifying for the CPA exam in Ohio (or any other state for that matter) I would greatly appreciate it!
Your Location: Ohio, USA
Your Age: 21
What kind of degree do you want?: Bachelor of Arts in Accounting
Current Regional Accredited Credits:
Maricopa Community Colleges: 9 credits total
ENG101 English Composition I, 3, A
ENG102 English Composition II, 3, A
ECE102 Intro to Engineering, 2, A
FYE101 Intro to College and Career Success, 1, A
Arizona State University: 3 credits total
SOC101 Intro to Sociology, 3, A
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:
CLEP Credits: 3 credits total
Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, 3, 86%
Any certifications or military experience? No
Budget: I don’t have a strict budget but would prefer to keep the cost below $10K. I would prefer to go the cheapest route but would consider spending more if it meant that I could complete it considerably faster or if the courses’ content better prepared me to take the CPA exam.
Commitments: I intend to work during my studies but do not yet know if it will be full-time or part-time.
Dedicated time to study: I can dedicate as much time as needed to study when I am not working.
Timeline: My goal is to obtain my degree in less than two years. However, I might be open to spending more time in a program if it means that I will have to spend less time studying for the CPA exam.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I expect to pay for my degree out-of-pocket but will continue researching my options.
