Is a Criminal Justice Minor Possible?
Posted by: Marlin9276 - 04-13-2024, 12:20 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (3)

Hey everyone,

Scratching my head over how minors at UMPI work. I've seen some post talking about getting minors but I'm unsure if it's possible to get a Criminal Justice minor. I'm pursuing a BA's in History and Political Science so a tiny bit of the courses overlap with the Criminal Justice BA. Are there links on the wiki or official UMPI sites that say where you can get a minor, specifically for CJ, for YourPace students?

Or is this something I need to ask my academic coach about?

If yes you can get a minors in CJ, would anyone know how many credits of CJ courses would count as a minors. And is it possible to get more than one minor?

Thanks.

  Residency Requirements
Posted by: FM1 - 04-12-2024, 08:16 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (13)

I was told by my academic success coach that I had fulfilled all the requirements to graduate this term. However, having read a lot of online feedback that the coaches have been incorrect in the past, I have completed a review to validate if I have met every requirement to graduate and it turns out that I havent met the residency requirements.

The residency requirements state:

  1. At least 30 credit hours of study through UMPI (met requirement)
  2. At least 12 of these credits must be in the major (met requirement)
  3. At least 9 of these 12 must be at the upper level - 300-level or above (have not met this requirement)

Is my understanding correct? If so, I have 2 options: BUS 353 or BUS 440. Which one is the easiest and fastest to complete?

Capitol Technology University PhD in Cyberpsychology
Posted by: Sarit1046 - 04-12-2024, 04:23 PM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (20)

Hi all, I've seen a couple other posts here re: Capitol Tech's PhD programs and want to hear from other folks regarding experiences with the European model curriculum of all courses having no content aside from preparation for the final deliverable. In this case, I've chosen the publication route (publishing three articles in peer-reviewed journals) as opposed to the dissertation route. Due to the degree costing $54k USD and facing intermittent financial challenges between work and family these past few years, I have been in and out of registering but kept in contact with my chair. As a result, I managed to have all three articles completed and accepted to approved peer-reviewed journals as per protocol, without completing the majority of the courses. I was informed that the $48k of remaining courses besides the Defense course (which would make sense to take) are all required and in the order in which they are listed - no exceptions.

I am curious if anyone has faced this dilemma before and, if so, would you consider spending that much money on basically contentless courses? I am aware I got myself into this pickle, I was just really invested in carrying out my research by any means, and at the end of the day, while chances are slim I will earn the degree now, I wanted to ask here for any similar experiences.

Thanks in advance!

What accounting classes require exams or paper? I have 11 classes left
Posted by: Sarajane - 04-12-2024, 04:00 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (7)

I saw some posts about things changing with the move to brightspace and that most final assessments won't be exams but papers or projects.

These are the classes I will have left at umpi but I'm not sure which ones require an exam or paper/project. I was hoping current or previous students can assist.

Does Sophia track what sites you've visited?
Posted by: Chickenfat2024 - 04-12-2024, 03:26 PM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, OnlineDegree.com, Sophia.Org Discussion - Replies (12)

I'm genuinely curious. Their privacy policy doesn't say anything about tracking sites but I'm not tech savvy and unsure how that works. And don't come at me to argue, it's just a question.

  Interdisciplinary from Liberty University
Posted by: Hami8665 - 04-11-2024, 05:20 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (3)

Hi everyone this is my first post ever in Degree Forum.  I hope this is enough information and my apologies if posted on wrong thread.

Your Location: Alexandria, VA

Your Age: 55
What kind of degree do you want?: Interdisciplinary from Liberty University 90 credits already applied.
Current Regional Accredited Credits: Total Credit Hours: 49
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 110 (56 from military)
Any certifications or military experience? Yes military
Budget: not an issue...Liberty University has given me the military discount and the first responder scholarship which makes my tuition $187.50 per credit hour
Commitments: Full time job and family
Dedicated time to study: I can make the time. I would say 2-3 hours day and all Saturday and Sunday
Timeline: Finishing ASAP
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None: self financed
Schools Attended : Too many to list

I applied to the BOG program on March 3rd 2024. Transcripts from all schools and military ordered the same day. All transcripts were downloaded/viewed March 4th. All transcripts transcribed into ROAR on Monday April 8th. Lisa sent email to let me know transcript have been loaded into ROAR. I sent a "thank you" email to Lisa and Nancy. I made the remark that I hope there is a degree in all those credits somewhere.  Nancy replied that "there sure is and I've approved your August 2nd 2024 graduation application. Looking at my degreeworks app, it's stating that I'm lacking 9 credit hours in Gen Ed...social science, IT, and science. With that said..I completed the IT course on Sophia, as well as Microeconomics, and Human Biology. All of them transferred in as electivesbut did not cover the Gen ed.

Questions:
Should I be worried about actual graduation?
If application for graduation is approved, does that mean I will graduate?
Why would the 9 sophia credits be applied as electives and not to the Gen Ed section?

I guess I just want all the ducks to line up properly. Is there anything I should be worried about?

Thanks in advance for your replies and advice.

LAPU Ascend CBE MS in Instructional Design and Technology
Posted by: Jonathan Whatley - 04-11-2024, 06:42 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (4)

Los Angeles Pacific University (LAPU) offers a self-paced, subscription-priced CBE MS in Instructional Design and Technology. Tuition is $2500 per 4-month term. LAPU estimates average time to completion as 16 months, for a total $10 000. But “Designed as an ‘all you can eat’ subscription model, you can complete as much as you're able to for a flat rate.”

The program is 30 credits: 12 in Technical Foundation, 9 in Professional Scholarship, 9 in Management.

The MS in IDT is the only program currently offered through Ascend, LAPU’s name for its competency-based education program.

A Christian non-profit, LAPU is part of the Azusa Pacific University System. LAPU originates in the online and adult and professional studies divisions of Azusa Pacific University, and became regionally accredited as a separate institution in 2018. The Azusa Pacific University System is Evangelical inter-denominational with a Wesleyan Holiness heritage.
