  Question regarding transfer credit courses
Posted by: jobojoe285 - 03-27-2024, 11:25 AM - Forum: WGU - Western Governors University Discussion - Replies (6)

Hello, I am currently in the process of setting up some excel sheets with all courses that are eligible for credit transfers as well as all courses from Sophia, etc.

My question is most likely quite obvious, but I want to be 100% sure so I don't potentially waste time and money on the wrong course.

Looking at https://partners.wgu.edu/home, some partners seem to offer multiple courses options for 1 WGU course (example being the first course, the english class)6.

For "composition: successful self-expression", Sophia gives you 3 choices. From what I understand, I can do 1 of those 3 and I can transfer for 3 credits.

The https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/WG...egree_Plan wiki shows English Composition I/II or Workplace Writing II. From what I understand, to get the 3 credits I need to finish Sohpia English Composition 1 and English Composition 2 classes or Workplace Writing 2. In the partner page above, I think ENG1002 is English Composition 2 in the sophia website. Would I have to do composition 1 + 2 because there is a requirement (as in Sophia tells you that you cannot take Eng composition 2 before you finish Eng Composition 1)?

I guess I am mostly looking to understand (before I get the free trials / subscriptions) these 3rd party course sites requirements and if they make it obvious for what classes I need to get (or when I can enroll in them).

Does this make sense, or am I rambling ( a known problem for me )?

Anyone dealing with the Cluster that is FAFSA?

FAFSA glitches leave students, colleges without crucial financial information | WVXU

I personally chose to do a INDS degree at Liberty University, however - this is creating a mess for everyone in terms of having to fill out paperwork to see what financial aid is even available.

I've heard that people who filled out the new FAFSA in January still haven't gotten anything back - not boding well for me, who filled it out in March. LOL!

  Which class to take?
Posted by: ACI - 03-27-2024, 09:45 AM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (6)

Hi, for my degree I need one more UL Computer Information Systems class through TESU. The three options (I've done all the others) are CMP-3540 Network Technology, CYB-4210 Cybersecurity Risk Anlys/Mngt, and MKT-4410 Marketing Digital and Social Media. Does anyone have any reasons why I would take one over the others? Thanks!

Degree planning help - UMPI BBA vs PUG BSBA
Posted by: crowbird - 03-27-2024, 06:26 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (58)

For context i plan to get my degree early next year where i will be pretty much free full time(no school, no work, single no responsibilities).

So i plan to get a second degree and not sure what should i go for the two that seem viable are businesses or IT but IT i feel like ill just end up needing to spend more money to get all those needed certifications on top of all the fees(wgu us not an option as i am international)

Do to me being a third worlder by budget is tight (around 3k excluding 3rd credits and TOEFL..etc)
It seems my only option is umpi which would either be 1500 or 3000$ depending on how fast i go
Pug title looks fancy but i doubt ill be able to finish in 6 weeks with that 2500$ exceltrack price tag (maybe it is you guys let me know)

I plan to do a bachelor's because master seem to be to hard to finish in those short terms(ympi 2k for 8 weeks, pug 3.4k for 12 weeks) also i feel like a bachelor's would be more fulfilling online compared to a master where its more about lab experience and networking (correct me??) And it would be pain in the ass to get my cs degree from my third world country to transfer in order to do masters.

  Missing Straighterline credits on credly
Posted by: yc1981 - 03-27-2024, 03:52 AM - Forum: Saylor.org, Straighterline, Study.com, OnlineDegree.com, Sophia.Org Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi all, I went back through my credly transcript and my straighterline/old ace transcripts and I can see Straighterline missed sending some of my classes to credly. I had been on the old system previously before they went through Credly and I used the Straighterline web form to request that they send my transcripts over to Credly and turn them into badges after the fact. Is there a specific way I should use to contact Straighterline to find out why I am missing classes? Seems like many things require me to have an active subscription, which I don't need... thank you for any advice.

Okay, this is weird! I actually think the problem is with Credly. I logged into straighterline and I can see under My Transcripts that they included the classes in question on the transcript. But somehow it never appeared in Credly as a badge. So now I need to figure out who to contact at Credly, I think. I sent a request through their online help form, hopefully that will work.

Am I on the right path for any BLS degree
Posted by: rme1987 - 03-26-2024, 09:02 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (11)

Hello, I have been on the forum for a while as a guest and have read through the posts and have taken credits with the intention of getting a UMPI degree. I would just like to hear what the degree hacking experts think.

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Age: 37

What kind of degree do you want? I was looking at accounting, finance, business administration, technology but it seems as if I have most credits for a BLS degree. I currently work in building security for my county. I could possibly look for other opportunities where I currently work with any degree. I have been interested in finance and technology. I want to finish any degree quickly before something may change and my credits become useless. After I get my undergraduate I may try to attend PSU world campus or another school for a more specific graduate degree. I have also looked into other schools such as SNHU, it would cost more. I prefer writing papers and doing projects to exams. I looked into WGU also, but have read about the proctors on the WGU reddit forums so I'd rather not deal with that.

RA Credits: 3
Olivet Nazarene University
American Government, 3 Credits. 97%

Current Ace, CLEP or NCCRS Credits.

Sophia learning: 72 credits.

English Composition l: 3 credits, 82%, my grader was very difficult so I just wanted to finish the course.
Workplace Communication: 3 credits, 91%
Intro to Ethics: 3 credits, 76%, very difficult course
Visual Communications: 3 credits, 85%
Art History I: 3 credits, 79%
Intro to Statistics: 3 credits, 75%, this was very difficult, I took every practice milestone multiple times and took a lots of notes.
Human Biology: 3 credits, 90%
Introduction to Sociology: 3 credits, 93%
U.S History l: 3 credits, 89%

The above credits look as they will fill the 1A,1C,2A,2D,2E,3A,3C,5A,5B, sections of UMPI GEC requirements for the BLS degrees.

Other Sophia credits:

Approaches to studying Religions: 3 credits, 92%
Art History ll: 3 credits, 82%
Business Law: 3 credits, 87%
College Algebra: 3 credits, 79%
Environmental Science: 3 credits, 90%
Financial Accounting: 3 credits, 93%
Introduction to Business: 3 credits, 93%
Introduction to information technology: 3 credits, 92%
Introduction to Psychology: 3 credits, 93%
Introduction to Web development: 3 credits, 87%
Macroeconomics: 3 credits, 90%
Microeconomics: 3 credits, 86%
Principles of Finance: 3 credits, 87%
U.S History ll: 3 credits, 88%
Project Management: 3 credits, 89%

These Sophia credits above were all earned in 2020,2021, and 2022 so some are no longer offered I know.

Sophia credits currently working on:
Spanish l, 67% completed.

Sophia credits still needed:
English Composition ll to fill 1B
Science requirement for 3D
Lab requirement for 3E

with everything completed that would be 85 credits.

Any certifications or Military experience? No.

Budget: I'd like to utilize as much as I already have that's possible, but I would say 7k-12K.

Commitments: I work fulltime in Security, but have a lot of downtime while working.

Dedicated study time: I have at least 5 hours while at work and at least 5 hours after I go home, currently.

Timeline: I'd like to finish by the end of the year or before something changes where Sophia may not be accepted anymore or less credits can be transferred.

Tuition Assistance/Reimbursement: My employer offers 5% to 20% reductions on tuition with select local colleges. None of them except alternative credits.
There are many public colleges near Pittsburgh, where I live, but they don't accept alternative credits.

Thanks, for all that you do here.
