  How to Study
Posted by: Deetzin - 03-11-2024, 10:27 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

This is probably the fifth time that I am trying to go back to school to get my degree because reading these forums have convinced me that it might actually be possible. I am aiming to get my bachelors in either communications or psych. I have applied to TESU and WGU.

I am going to do my best to test out of as many courses as I can, but I was curious if you guys had any sort of study tips for me. I'm not great at testing so I'm not sure if this whole 'degree hacking' is even possible for me to do. The guy on youtube says he has some sort of magic study method to pass the exams, so I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me out and share their study tools or point me in the right direction!! I am definitely not trying to pay that guy $1,000 on top of school.

Thanks in advance everyone!!

Credit sufficiency for Pierpoint BOG Degree w/ AoE in IS
Posted by: DEPY - 03-11-2024, 10:10 PM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (6)

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if I meet the requirements to obtain Pierpoint's BOG Degree with an AoE in Information Systems. After obtaining the degree I plan to attend WGU and enrolling in the Accelerated BSIT to MSITM program. Here is what I have so far:

Coursera through TADA:

15 - Google IT Support Professional Certificate
10 - Google UX Design Certificate
9 - Google Cybersecurity Certificate

Local community college (2008):

3 - Sociology
3 - Oral Communication

Sophia:

3 - College Algebra
3 - Critical Thinking
3- Environmental Science
2- Human Biology Lab
4 - Principles of Management
3 - Intro To Relational Databases
3 - Intro To Statistics
3 - Intro To Web Development
3 - U.S. Government
3 - Visual Communications
3 - Intro To Java Programming

Total credits = 73

I also have 3 CompTIA certs, A+, N+, and Sec+ but not sure if Pierpoint would count those. Does anyone know?

I've seen that Introduction To IT on Sophia would suffice for the AoE, but since I already have the Google IT Support Professional Certificate wouldnt that meet the requirement? Or would I still need to take that class?

If there's anything I'm missing or you think I should take on Sophia (with no touchstones) feel free to recommend.

Thanks in advance!

Legit UK Level 7 and Level 8 Diplomas
Posted by: armstrongsubero - 03-11-2024, 09:11 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (3)

finally posting here after a few threads of being away. I'm looking for legitimate EQF Level 7 and Level 8 Diploma Programs with the aim of it being evaluated as ABD for a doctoral degree. I browsed the threads, what I gathered so far is the OfQual providers are good programs that will have the chance of being evaluated by a NACES agency as equivalent doctoral credits.

I am considering this program:

Level 7 + Level 8 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership - London College of Foreign Trade (lcft.org.uk)

I saw that there are some concerns about how legit this place may be? It's in India? Will they issue a Diploma from Qualifi? I spent a few years getting acquainted with the US system and the UK system seems a bit tricky.

What I want to know is both for myself and for future readers is can we get a list of legit places that offer Level 7 and Level 8? Sure we know about ENEB, but besides them, where are some places I am sure give legit Level 7 and Level 8 diplomas?

Also when done I'm aware of places that do the ABD route assuming its transferred as doctoral level coursework eg. Walden PhD in Management completion. What are the cheapest routes, to get the doctor title? I'm open to NA. Maybe also ENEB style "titulo" programs for persons outside the US where it won't be a problem. My country def recognizes EQF, it fits into CARICOM NQF so I'm almost guaranteed a legit Level 7 and Level 8 will be evaluated as doctoral equivalent for employment purposes, just want the Doctor title, so NA, Titulo etc etc. I'm sure there are others like me who have no interest in academia but want this for self-actualization and professional goals.

I think this UK Level 8 Diploma route has a lot of potential, I saw a guy listing the same Level 7 + Level 8 on Linkedin as:

LSIB London School of International Business
Dual Master and Doctorate, Strategic Management
Grade: L7L8-DSML-QUALIFI 280 Credits Total

Also will my TESU degrees I finished in 2 years be a problem when applying to these programs? I'm literally looking at the signup link and just wondering if it would be worth my time vs the ASU 15 free Grad Credits and going the NA route....Thanks guys!

  Questions regarding international admissions.
Posted by: kjhkjh2001 - 03-11-2024, 01:29 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (11)

The UMPI website states that I need to provide my university transcripts but since I have a gpa of less than 1.75, I am thinking of not submitting my university transcripts. Would this be a good idea or will they somehow find out?

When is the deadline to do the Duolingo language test?

Does it cost money to transfer my sophia credits to UMPI?

Do I need to submit my high school transcripts together with my HS diploma?

Is my high school supposed to send my diploma and transcripts to WES or can I do it myself? And does it matter if it's electronic or physical copy?

Since I have a high school diploma and an IB diploma, is it ok for me to send just my High school Diploma? I am asking because the IB will cost me extra money for the evaluation and it will take longer.

Should I do WES document by document or course by course evaluation?

How long does WES usually take? The application deadline for documents is in 3 weeks. Will I be able to make it?

Also, should I pick the WES International Credential Advantage Package or is the basic enough?

Budget: I know UMPI, WGU, or TESU will be most likely less than Liberty, so I’m not too concerned about budget. The most important thing for me is finishing as quickly as I can.
Commitments: Fiancé and traveling monthly to take care of my mom. I’m currently in a full-time accounting internship that ends in April. There’s a chance that the internship will be extended to December, but it would be part-time after April. If the internship ends in April, then I would be doing school full-time and not working.
Dedicated time to study: I estimate 35+ hours a week if I’m not working and 20 hours a week if I am working. Several weekly doctor’s appointments, monthly travels, and my own medical issues limit the time I have to study.
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal. My goal is to be finished by June 2025 at the latest.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: No

I’ve been doing hours of research on the forum and on the websites for several colleges. I think I’ve narrowed it down to either UMPI or TESU (I’m considering WGU, but it’s my last option as GPA is important to me), but I am open to whatever college would enable me to finish the fastest with the most transfer credits accepted. I would prefer competency-based education, but I would rather take tests than write long papers. I don’t mind writing essays, but really don’t do well with 5+ page papers (which is my biggest reservation about UMPI). The weekly deadlines at Liberty are very challenging and stressful with doctor’s appointments and traveling, and it would be nice to have more flexibility than strict weekly deadlines. I’m open to doing ACE credits at Sophia/SDC etc. It would be nice to find a program that allows for a month-long break between sessions, as I’m getting married and moving before June 2025, and I will definitely need a month off for that. Also, I'm not planning to go for my CPA, so I'm ok if the degree program is not CPA prep.

I’ve tried looking at different websites to see how my Liberty credits would transfer, but I end up just getting lost or confused, and I’m really not sure which college would be best for me. Also, I'm not sure if I need to submit my Sophia transcript when I do apply somewhere, or if my Liberty transcript is enough since it has the Sophia credits accepted on it. Thank you SO much for your help and recommendations!

TESU BACS course selection for OMSCS
Posted by: warre - 03-10-2024, 11:06 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (29)

Hi,

Your Location: Belgium
Your Age: 25
What kind of degree do you want?: BACS
Current Regional Accredited Credits:

Unknown, awaiting verification from spantran

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None

Any certifications or military experience? No

Budget: As cheap as possible, I'm fine spending +/- $5k
Commitments: Full-time job, no other commitments.
Dedicated time to study: On average 4 hours per weeknight, more on the weekends so totalling around 35 hours per week I'd estimate.
Timeline: As fast as possible, ideally within 6 months.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: My workplace does not partner with any institutions but I may be able to use some of my training budget to partly reimburse the studies, max $2k reimbursement if I can use the entire training budget.

I'm an international student and am pretty sure OMSCS will not accept my 3-year degree as being equivalent to a U.S. 4-year degree. At least according to my own government the degree sits between an associate's and an academic bachelors (which is 4-year equivalent). I'm still waiting for spantran to complete my course-by-course evaluation, so I can go on to apply to TESU to get a BACS to fulfill this 4-year degree requirement.

My previous degree is CS - Applied, meaning I didn't get any math whatsoever (I know ridiculous). I did have programming, sw architecture, OS (which included a little bit of DS&A). I know GaTech admissions likes to see accredited courses for e.g. DS&A. Hence my plan is now to do the flat-rate 16 credit term, taking:

  • MAT-2700 - Discrete Mathematics
  • COS-2410 - Data Structures
  • LIB-4950  - Liberal Arts Capstone
  • "filler" courses amounting to 7 more credits
I'm hoping to get your opinion on my degree plan, maybe someone who has taken above mentioned courses can help me assess the course load. I am pretty good at math and have done a lot of leetcoding so I guess I'd be decently prepared, but any insights are certainly welcome.

Cheers!

  Feedback on Paris Business School
Posted by: absamer - 03-10-2024, 02:43 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (5)

Hello all, I am considering the DBA program of Paris Business School here:

https://www.psbedu.paris/en/programs/executive-dba

- It is online
- Costs around 32K Euro
- Triple accredited
- 3 years in duration

My questions:

1- How good is Paris Business School in general? Are they one of the top schools in France or Europe?

2- Would it allow me to get a teaching position in the future in the US (just in case I wanted to)? or they don't recognize or give much attention for none-US doctorate there?

3- What other business schools offer same online, accreditation and price are there to compare with?

Thanks!

  Coursera Certs Offline
Posted by: natshar - 03-10-2024, 12:21 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

So I signed up for The American Dream Academy. Now I have only until end of April to finish them. I'm going on a trip a in couple weeks. I'm wondering is there a way to work on TADA offline like on an airplane by downloading content? Just wanted to ask.

Also, is there a way to work on the certs on a mobile app? I will not be bringing my laptop on the trip.
