NH Colby-Sawyer College cut their tuition 62% in 2023 ($46,000 to $17,500)
Posted by: Ares - 02-13-2024, 10:17 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Colby-Sawyer College to slash tuition 62% (New Hampshire Union Leader)

Quote:New London’s Colby-Sawyer College will cut tuition to $17,500 per year starting in the fall of 2023, slashing the sticker price from more than $46,000, with an eye toward competing with New Hampshire’s public colleges.

Not suprisingly, applications then went up by 75% after the cut. While that is still expensive, the fact that they were able to do that and continue operating just goes to show how much of higher education's price-inflation is artificial.

Quote:A recent study from federal student loan servicer Sallie Mae found more than four out of five families will dismiss a college based on the price of attendance, without any other research.

They needed to do a study to come up with this information?

Quote:Stuebner said the tuition reduction shouldn’t mean any major changes to the college.

How is that possible? I could never imagine a business taking a 62% cut in revenue and nothing changing.

  Pierpont Application Status
Posted by: Chilow - 02-13-2024, 05:20 PM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (2)

How long does it typically take from the date of submitting an application with Pierpont to being approved? I submitted my application this past Sunday and it's showing the following every time I login and check on it.

100% complete - Board of Governors - Spring 2024 - Submitted
Congratulations! Your application is under review.

Should I send over my Sophia credits via CREDLY while it's still in the "under review" stage or do I need to wait? I would like to have everything ready so I can graduate in May instead of waiting until August 2024. I still have to do my 1 credit ASU class, but I could probably finish that in 2-3 days.

Master's in Online or Digital Marketing
Posted by: resistk - 02-13-2024, 02:06 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (6)

I am looking into a Master’s of some sort in Digital or Online Marketing and need some input from anyone with experience or knowledge.  I don’t want a MBA with the accounting requirements (my undergrad degree is Liberal Studies) and my only hard criteria are Title IV eligibility, online, and maybe ability to do it Part Time. I am looking at WGU and SNHU as possibles. Otherwise, I am not looking for a lot of academic rigor or accolades from the school but hoping to keep tuition down if possible.

Degree Planning - From Bachelors to Doctorate
Posted by: fromgedtoPhD - 02-13-2024, 01:26 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (13)

Hey guys, I've been here for a while but still think there's someone out there who can shed some light on my path. I'm trying to get a doctorate from any regionally accredited institution that's less expensive or less time-consuming.
Education:

  • High school diploma
  • SIEMENS NX CAD Certification
  • Google IT Support Certification
  • MIT MicroMasters Program in Statistics and Data Science with 4 certifications
    • Cert1: Data Analysis - Statistical Modeling and Computation in Applications
    • Cert2: Probability - The Science of Uncertainty and Data
    • Cert3: Python - From Linear Models to Deep Learning
    • Cert4: Fundamentals of Statistics
  • Previous two years of brick and mortar college with no transfer credit from that college
  • Sophia: 115 credits, because it's cheap and easy I can take any course on Sophia, so assume I have it if it's on Sophia
  • Real Estate license I took 4 college level courses (" 1-Real Estate Principle 2-Real Estate Practice 3-real Estate Finance 4- Property Management") from a non credit online school but it accept by the California department of real estate
Location: California
Age: 26
Budget: $20k; I'm willing to spend more for easier or faster degrees
Commitments: I'm currently working 50+ hours at SpaceX, but I have a month and a half of PTO, and I can take unpaid leave for up to 6 months. I'm also willing to quit my job to focus on getting my degree since I'm not getting paid well enough, and I'm looking to move to tech companies (FANFANG).
Dedicated time to study: I can put in 60h+ per week.
Degree Timeline: 0 to 5 years; aiming for the fastest or least time-consuming degree.

Any idea or advice is highly appreciate

Hi everyone,

I'm 28 years old, working at a large pharmaceutical company in a role that generally requires at least a bachelors degree in any sort of health or science field. I was able to land my position through experience, but would like to finish my bachelors degree to open more doors and complete my professional profile.

I have an associates degree in Science from a community college with the following courses taken:

ECONO-2202 134 Microeconomic & Global Economy

Total completed credits: 86

I also went to a public university as a Biology major for a few years and dropped out due to bad grade and bad life circumstances, I've taken these courses with at least a C grade:

-Biology 1 with lab
-Cell biology
-Cell Biology lab
-Ecology and Evolution
-Animal physiology
-Statistics

Total completed credits: 20 minimum, I believe it might be higher

I'm looking to get a health related degree (Health Science, Biology, etc) online with the best tuition and fastest option possible.

Programs I'm considering:

- WGU BS in Health and Human Services, they approved 32 transfer credits, I still need to take 78 credits: Cost 9k total if 2 terms
-SNHU Public Health BS, they approved 70 transfer credits with 50 remaining: Cost 17k total
-UW Flex BS in Health Science, I setup an info session to discuss
-TESU BS in Biology, I think I might need more courses at a community college to qualify?

I really appreciate everyone's help and guidance with this. You guys have created an amazing forum and structure to help other people, I've read through so many posts on here and it's been very helpful

  Analysis paralysis options
Posted by: jb111 - 02-12-2024, 08:49 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (5)

Please be patient with this post Smile So I finished the WGU MS Cybersecurity.  I want to keep going but a new job is coming real soon.  That delays my decision which is good (I'm all over the place-my posts make that obvious enough).  Additional degrees will not boost my pay at this age (mid-50's).  The next degree will cover one or all of: a) Personal knowledge, b) I may want to teach and c) I'd like the title of doctor

Approaches
The Softserve: ENEB or similar.  Cheap.  Good if I can keep disciplined to finish(never started last time - somehow I can still log in after 4 years).

The Unicorn: A very inexpensive accredited foreign degree with a decent school name in the area of: Psychology(maybe I/O, not interested in clinical), MBA, IT (not computer science), or cybersecurity.  A doctorate may be too much/too long while working full time.  De La Salle University and Southville sound decent.  Holy Angel (if they respond) would be a fun name Smile

The Dabbler: Hunt down valuable/inexpensive courses that meet a) and/or b) (e.g. certificates, single classes).  Southville has this for the MBA

The Moonbeam: A religious-based degree.  University of Sedona/University of Metaphysics seems to be a leader here.  Sedona sounds better.

My immediate plan to is take a speed reading course.  "Practice" on work documents and books I'm interested in.  I'll finish up Saylor's BUS501 (checked out Thunderbird but not interested).  By then I'll be closer to a decision.  One of the questions that's forming is "Am I preparing for a retirement job or a volunteer thing".  Full time income will be less the priority but some form of medical benefits will be necessary.
-----Thanks for reading------

  Degree Planning Help- BLS Management
Posted by: student777 - 02-12-2024, 07:54 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (1)

Hi all,

I am a new student starting in May and I need help with my degree plan in BLS Management. I have very few credits from community college years ago and finally in a place to return and finish. I already work in HR so just need a degree for a promotion, the BLS seemed like the best option after doing research. I have time off from work and wanted to take as many Sophia.org classes as possible in my free time. I currently have 32 credits transferred in and will list them below. Please tell me which classes I should take on Sophia. I have no kids and other obligations and can dedicate about 8 hours a a day for the next couple of weeks so want to get to as close as possible to 90 credits if not more. I'm not picky about classes and know the BLS path allows me to take more electives so if you have done this path before or have any advice/insight please let me know. I appreciate it so much.

Accepted Credits:

- First year seminar
- Psychology
- Public Speaking
- Intro to Sociology
- Intro to Business
- Organizational Behavior
- Intro to Logic
- College Algebra
- Business Communication
- Visual Communication

32 Credits

Thank you in advance, let me know if I should anymore details.
