Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None

Any certifications or military experience? None

Budget: I’d like to take most budget friendly option, but will consider spending more for easy and fast.
Commitments: I currently work full time and have a baby on the way. Some flexibility to work on my studies part time or in the evenings/weekends.
Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as is needed during the night or weekends as long as my schedule is often free (I occasionally do get drafted to work on weekends). I estimate at least 3 hours every week night.
Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal.  I would like to finish within 1 year (12-13 months)
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None, although I do qualify for the State University Grant if I continue my studies at CSUN.

UMPI BLS - Project Management Software Requirements
Posted by: Marcey97 - 05-25-2024, 04:25 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (1)

Hi, I am wrapping up my final 30 credits with UMPI starting in July. Will I need Microsoft Project on my computer? Will I need other project management software? Does UMPI do proctored tests that require a webcam for upper level courses that I will need to do to satisfy my upper-level electives. Thank you all for your help in advance.

Lightbulb Therapist here... questions about further education
Posted by: IHateEducation - 05-25-2024, 04:11 PM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (39)

Hey everyone,

To keep this as brief as possible, I am a seminary graduate with a dual degree, one in Theology and one in Counseling. I'm currently getting licensed in CA as a therapist and am about halfway through my 3000 required hours for full licensure.

Here's my dilemma: The hospital I work for pays for continued education. This has got me thinking about a doctoral degree that would 1) help with marketing myself with the "Dr." title in the future. 2) Will obviously give me extra education and 3) It'll be free or extremely close to that, so why not?

The problem is there are various options out there... too many to even begin to list. I can say that I don't care too much about the "traditional" route of going to an APA accredited school and getting a PhD or a PsyD in Clinical Psychology so I am looking for an alternative path that doesn't require a doctoral thesis and everything that comes with that (years of work and sleepless nights, an oral defense before a board, etc.) I'm looking for something quick and relatively painless. 5 years in Grad school + 2 residency programs at two major hospitals has already kicked my butt. I'm still recovering from that.

Since my budget is around $5,500 a year, what are my options? I've done a lot of research and I know schools like Kairos University and Mississippi College have a DPC program which looks tempting, but no one has heard of these degrees. I guess you can say I want my cake and I want to eat it too, but I wouldn't want to get a degree that would "limit" me where I go to apply to teaching positions 10 years from now and they look at me strange, wondering what a "Doctor of Professional Counseling" degree is from a small school in the middle of nowhere.

An alternative I have thought of is getting something like a DMin which is a practical degree for ministers where I can focus on "Biblical or Pastoral" Counseling. The limitation here I feel like is non-religious people might see this and get turned off by it, and not want to see me as their therapist.

Thoughts? I can expand further if needed.

Need guidance for BOG AAS with transfer to UMPI to carry on to MOAL
Posted by: Hackingat40 - 05-25-2024, 11:54 AM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (34)

Hello Everyone!

I just learned of college hacking and am excited. I have been a restaurant Training General Manager for many years and looking to change careers with getting a BAS and hopefully move on to UMPI MAOL degree. I have a few questions that I need help and guidance with if someone could help please.

1. Since I have 18 years as restaurant general manager who trains other company managers should I pay somewhere to do a portfolio evaluation to obtain some credits? (Running 24/7 business with upwards of 100 employees and 7 million dollars a year in pnl responsibility.)

2. These are the following CC credits and Ace credits I currently have.

My CC credits I hope transfer as I had a few F's from 2005 when I dropped classes online and the school never dropped them where years later I received a bill for all the classes in full and Fs on my transcript  Rolleyes I have already sent my CC transcript to Pierpont via Parchment.

News that the Pierpont BOG is open to foreigners is intriging. I think I have everything covered off with the exception of the graded RA credit but wouldn't mind a second set of eyes to validate my thinking? Not fussed about specializations.

Would I be right that getting the 1 graded credit is what I need to do? I have some foreign study but think that to get that counted would mean the $300 fee?

Im aware of ASU and JSU as options to get the graded credit.

TIA for all the wisdom Smile

  Instituto Expansion
Posted by: Avidreader - 05-24-2024, 10:54 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

This might be very useful information particularly for Mexican citizens, although technically foreigners can qualify as long as they have a passport and a CURP number.
Instituto Expansión (also known as Universidad Expansión has a sort of RVOE number equivalent for highschools with this text that I verified on the SEP database to be legit:
Instituto Expansión SC
Es una universidad avalada por la Secretaría de Educación Pública con Clave de Centro de Trabajo: 21MSU0077Q

While anyone can directly sign up at the Ceneval HQ to take first the EGEL plus written exam and later on the oral exam to get their degree, there is really not a lot of reliable study guides online about the exam topics. While you can retake both tests as many times as you want, the huge advantage of the Acuerdo 286 graduation pathway is to get a college degree in just 18 months from start to finish.
So I was quite curious about this school because they offer everything online such as self paced courses with the most important study materials. You first do an initial 40 question placement test to see how much material you already know and depending on that the online course can be either 3 or 6 months long.
There are two payment modes for their preparation course where they charge around 1700 mxn a month (around 100 USD) for just the prerecorded 5 minute long short videos for easier retention. Then they have a 2800 mxn (around 170 usd) a month option with tutors practicing mock versions of the oral exam online and the school guarantee everyone that selects this option will pass both exams on the first try.
It seems like they have a preference for accepting applicants that already have prior job experience, but theoretically if you already read the Ceneval suggested reading bibliography beforehand, you should do well enough in the placement test to get accepted and maybe only need the 3 month prep option.
They offer this service for the unregulated degrees such as Business Administratio, Marketing, Communications, Political Science, Education, International Relations.

Curiously they also offer for the regulated degrees that the Ceneval demands at least 50% of the degree to be learned in an accredited mexican university such as Law, Accounting, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering.
A quick check of the Law section and they don't mention anything about the prior 50% minimum requirement, only that they have RVOE numbers for their Law degree:
Instituto Expansión SC
Rvoes:

SEP-SES/21/114/2493/2018

SEP-SES/21/114/2494/2018

SEP-SES/21/114/2495/2018

SEP-SES/21/114/2496/2018

SEP-SES/21/114/2497/2018

There are more and more people getting their Business and Computer Science bachelors with this challenge exam modality. WES apparently does accept these degrees as equivalent to 4 year degrees but after a lot of pestering when it comes to students that get the degrees directly from the Ceneval. They seem to be valid for Canadian work visas. So, if a student wants to use this option to graduate a degree in just a few months online, this school might be an option if their Spanish skills are C1 level.
The ceneval exams are the biggest expense, the written costs 2500 mxn (150 usd) and the oral exam a whopping 18500 mxn (1100 usd).

Can anyone tell me how the Senior Courses for BAAS TAMUC for Organizational Leadership are graded? Are these courses graded with a letter grade from A-F or is there a different grading scale for Competency-Based-Courses/Programs.   BS CIS catalog change
Posted by: homeschoolmom1 - 05-24-2024, 12:34 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (5)

I noticed that the TESU website for the BS-CIS looks different now.

BSBA Degree in Computer Information Systems at Thomas Edison State University | BS in Business Administration (tesu.edu)

Under "Additional courses" in the AOS, it now has 4 courses listed:

Data Structures
MIS
Operating Systems
Database Management

I wonder if that course selection is restricted to those 4 courses, and that they MUST be those exact ones, or if this is just a suggestion and you can replace some of these with other upper level choices in computer science.

I guess we won't know for sure until someone signs up using this current catalog. I assume that most of you reading this are enrolled under a prior catalog.
