New to Board -anxious about Clep
Posted by: ncbeachgirl - 10-21-2007, 07:30 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

I am new to this site. I found out about it just today from another online student. I am currently taking my last class with Ashford U. I have only to clep out of Information Systems. hilarious I am an old gal (46). I work with computers daily, but know nothing of the inner workings or mechanics of them. I have textbooks that were given to me by computer tech instructors. I teach at a community college so I have that resource. I have downloaded the clep exam practice test for north carolina. I am also studying with instacert. I still don't know half of what I should.Sad I plan to take the clep test on Nov. 20. If I do not pass I will not graduate as scheduled in Decembe nor will I get the big raise i am expecting following graduation. Another thing:confused: these stupid smiley faces aren't working for me!!LOL. I appreciate any and all advise from anyone. I would love to know how to study best for the exam, focus of exam and just general advise. Thanks to all and can someone please tell me how to make my faces smile:mad:

  Questions - Peterson's practice exams
Posted by: cucalorus - 10-21-2007, 05:15 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (17)

This is specifically regarding the "Analyzing / Interpreting Lit" Peterson's test. But I'd welcome feedback from anyone who's taken any of the Peterson's practice tests.

I've only gone through one so far, but I'd like to see if others felt the same way as I do about it.

It seemed to me that the questions were pretty fair, but that many of the *answer choices* were unfairly written. I kept feeling like there were at least two answers that seemed equally correct or very similar. "Hateful and determined" vs. "vile and effective"? "Regret and shame" vs. "pain and lamentation"? OK, so those aren't the best examples, but still. Give me a break.

Does anyone else find the Peterson's test(s) to be a bit tricky with what they ask? Also, I hear people say that Peterson's is supposed to be more difficult than the "real thing", so I'm trying to decide if I should give much thought to a relatively mediocre score. I felt I understood the passages well.

Has anyone gotten their BS in Liberal Studies through Excellsior College?
I am in the midst of figuring out my best route, and would like to see how others did it, to see my best bet.

Question about which tests for Psychology focus at Excelsior
Posted by: Southpaw - 10-20-2007, 05:04 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

I'm looking at doing the BSLS with a Psychology focus at Excelsior. I want to make sure I have the correct list of which exams fall under Psychology. I already have completed intro to Psychology from a B&M school.

I'm planning on taking:

ECE Abnormal Psychology
ECE Research Methods in Psychology
ECE Foundations of Gerontology
ECE Psychology of Adulthood and Aging
ECE Social Psychology

For the 7th class I need to decide between:

CLEP Intro to Educational Psychology
CLEP Human Growth and Development
DSST Lifespan Developmental Psychology
ECE Lifespan Developmental Psychology
DSST Organizational Behavior
ECE Organizational Behavior

My first question is are all of those exams considered psychology?

Are there any other exams not listed that count towards the Psychology focus?

Of that last list which do you think is the easiest?

I had been planning on taking DSST Civil War and ECE World Populations to finish off my upper level requirement for Arts and Sciences, but if I take the ECE Organizational Behavior I can pass on the World Populations.

I'm interested in what you guys think.

Thanks

  does CLEP raise your GPA?
Posted by: mtmathai - 10-20-2007, 04:11 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (7)

if your college says that geting a 50 is passing with a C for a CLEP exam and they will give u equivilancy course credit for it, does that mean if you get a 50 ..they put the course down on the transcript with a C and contribute that to your GPA?

How do u Study with IC
Posted by: MelissaRosenblum - 10-20-2007, 01:20 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

I am currently studying for my second CLEP (Macro Economics) with IC. I was just wondering how others used the website because it seems that i am taking a much longer than everyone else to prepare for exams. I current study one set of questions till i get a 90% or higher than move on to the next set of questions. I study between about 15 hours a week. It will probably take me 2-3 weeks to prepare (already got 1 week down) just see how long it takes me to get through the rest of the material.

I just seems people here are able to test in 1 week. Whats the secret different study method or perhaps i'm not spending enough time studying.

  NY Real Estate License
Posted by: lmnop098 - 10-20-2007, 12:16 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

Hello everyone, I have a question regarding a Real Estate License and an Appraiser Apprentice License. I had a NYS Real Estate License that expired back in 98 or so and an Apprentice Appraiser License that I also let expire about the same time. My question is, do these expired Licenses count for any college credit? If so, what colleges accept them?

Thanking you in advance.

  Graduation planning
Posted by: hunter2115 - 10-20-2007, 07:24 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Can someone tell me what, and when, one needs to do to prepare for graduation from Excelsior? I'm not finished yet as I have Ops Mgmt and Business Policy to finish after the current Business Stats course. I'm just looking ahead (finally!) and want to get things in line. I guess I could ask an advisor at the school, but I thought I'd raise the question here so everyone knows the process.
