  FEMA independent study and TESC

Does anyone know if any of the FEMA independent study courses can be counted as humanities classes? I gotta fill my humanities requirement to get my BA at Thomas Edison State but I only need ONE credit and dont want to spend money to take a three credit class.

  Interesting resource
Posted by: cookderosa - 08-16-2007, 12:33 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

I just found an interesting resource to look through for my social studies/history exam. The Guinness Book of World Records!hilarious
My practice tests had a lot of geography questions like "which is the largest...." "what is the tallest..." etc. and my son brought me his record book! It has wonderful factoids for the basics. A few goodies:
Hardest mineral- tallest mountain-longest river- most annual rainfall- deepest valley-largest deforestation-costliest natural disasters- largest lake- major seas- etc. I think this will be a good reference for natural sciences too, though I have not looked too much at the exam content.

Of course, you'll have to control your urge to see the most body piercings and world's longest toe nails. That can be quite a distraction! :eek:

  Money and Banking
Posted by: Bonechills - 08-16-2007, 09:49 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (11)

I have been studying money and banking. This is a very hard exam but very interesting. I have been going through the flash cards and just opened Rudman's book. I starting taking the tests and they seem to not line up with what I have been studying. Has anyone used Rudman's test book? And was it helpful?

  Maybe someone steer me in the right direction...
Posted by: Mango122784 - 08-16-2007, 12:40 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Hello all, long time lurker here. :p I don't post all that often.. but here goes.

I'm hoping someone can point me in a direction with finishing some cleps, I'd be forever grateful for some feedback! I just don't want to study for a hard clep, take the test and fail and become horribly depressed! *****I've attempted to study and complete clep's last semester, but never followed through due to external problems (my dad died and I'm *trying* to plan a wedding).

My background info:

I don't need anymore math, english or science electives. If you know of something within these classifications, that will be somewhat easy on exam day.. I'll take them just to gain the extra credits.

I hate anything classified under "liberal arts", but if there is an easy clep.. I'll try it out.

I'm a business management major. Business classes are fun for me :p

  Introductory Psychology CLEP Feedback
Posted by: auminer49r - 08-15-2007, 04:43 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

Hello all you exam-takers,

I took Introductory Psychology CLEP today and I scored a 69.Big Grin

I studied for 1 week using IC Flashcards and I also googled the topics listed in the Specific Exam Feedback section of this forum. That's it.
I felt like I knew the answers to the questions before I was even done reading the questions. I felt very prepared... maybe even over-prepared.

I don't have a lot to add to the topics in the exam specific feedback section. They were spot-on. In fact, I feel that by using IC flashcards and the existing information in the exam specific section, I studied in the most effective and efficient manner that I could have during this last week.

One thing that I did that I think you might find helpful would be to connect certain key figures to their theories in various ways. For example:

John B. (as in behaviorist) Watson.
B. (as in behaviorist) F. Skinner.
Abra(HUManism) Maslow. (his first name is Abraham)

Use your own creativity to make these connections:
Solomon Asch = Social Conformity
Erikson = Psychosocial Theory
Rogers = Client-centered
Operant Conditioning = learning from mistakes
Kohlberg = Moral Development
Ivan Pavlov = classical conditioning

I could go on, but seriously... You don't need it. If you spend more than an hour a day for 1 week and you have a fairly decent grasp on the flashcards and the specific topics in the specific feedback section, you will DOMINATE the exam. ...That's all there really is to it.

Be encouraged!!

  Took first test today!
Posted by: 58driver - 08-15-2007, 01:49 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (10)

Hello,
I am relatively new to this site, and I have to say it is great, and i appreciate everyones tips for the tests. I just took my first clep test today in Sociology and passed with a 58. I studied for about 3 days using primarily IC flashcards, and a couple of other resources such as the official study guide book. Mostly the flashcards though. Thanks for the advice and tips, I look forward to using this site for other tests. Now the question is what test should I take next, I was thinking about American Government. Let me know what you think.

  Announcing the Birth of Madison Emerick!
Posted by: Matymus - 08-15-2007, 11:25 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (23)

Some of you may have noticed that I have not been online, or posted in awhile. Then again, I may not have been missed...that's ok. Big Grin My wife delivered our first child, Madison Emerick, into the world on July 27th @ 4:34am. She weighed in at 8lbs, 5oz and measured 22 inches long.

Obviously, I've been very sleep deprived for the past 3 weeks and been taking care of my wife as she ended up having an emergency C-section. Both mom & baby are doing extremely well. For those who would like to see pictures, please send me a PM and I'll send you a link. Big Grin

God Bless,
~ Matt
