NPV, IRR on Principles of Accounting?
Posted by: mstcrow5429 - 06-21-2007, 05:02 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

I noticed on Part 3 of the Managerial Component of IC, it touches upon NPV and IRR. It does not go into any detail on how to perform these functions. I've noticed NPV and IRR are complicated enough that these are standard functions on financial calculators. One isn't allowed to use a financial calculator (or any other, I think) on the Principles of Accounting exam. What I'd like to know is am I going to be required to do NPV and IRR on paper?

  Psych test tomorrow
Posted by: beckycan - 06-21-2007, 09:13 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

I scheduled the Introductory Psych test for tomorrow. Monday night I downloaded some Windows updates, and then the computer wouldn't reboot. The last time I scheduled a test, my computer got struck by lightning! I'm beginning to think the thing is "jinxed"!

Anyway, here I am at the library, ready to go through the IC flashcards one more time -- most of the info is a review from LPN school (20+ years ago) so hopefully I'll have no problem scoring the 50 I need for credit.

Wish me luck!

Becky

Does anybody have a calculator operations cheat sheet for a TI-36X calculator for statsistics? If somebody could share detailed instructions on how to use the TI-36X stat functions to solve calculations it would help out tremendously. I would be more than willing to trade any study materials that I have that may be of useWink

  Almost Done
Posted by: Pat3r - 06-20-2007, 04:37 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

I have one test left, Principles of Finance, DSST. The test was to be tomorrow, but the local testing center moved me back to July 5th. I don't mind because this is a pretty tough test. All the rest are done, 120 credits since March 5th of this year. I am exhausted. I can't believe I am thinking about starting an MBA.

  Principles of Supervision, Study Material
Posted by: blueyzz28 - 06-20-2007, 03:49 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

I was thinking about taking the Principles of Supervision exam to boost my GPA but was wondering if anyone knew a good study resource for the exam. Besides instacert, are there any small books that cover the material similar to the REA books?

Thanks.

CLEP Test - Guide for CLEP Exam
Posted by: sgloer - 06-20-2007, 08:32 AM - Forum: Clep Study Guide - Replies (1)

A College Level Examination Program Test or CLEP Test is an educational test designed and fabricated by the College Board, a not-for-profit examination board in the United States. A CLEP test is also termed as ‘CLEP Exam’ or simple CLEP. A CLEP test is instrumental in helping the US students in high schools or universities to achieve credits for the successful completion of each course for each academic term.

A CLEP Test is mostly 90 minutes long test that mostly includes multiple-choice questions or fill-ins, except for English Composition with Essay. The current fee for a CLEP test is $60 ($65, effective July 1, 2007), but a CLEP test is free for the members of military services. A CLEP test is based on the syllabus taught in courses that are taken by most students as requirements in the first two years of college. A CLEP test may be based on one-semester course or full-year or two-year course.

A CLEP test helps the students save time. They can get college credit for what they already know. They get rewarded for what they have learned through independent study advanced high school courses, noncredit adult courses, or professional development. A CLEP test helps the students save money. The cost of a CLEP exam is just $65, which is nothing as compared to hundreds, even thousands of dollars spent in tuitions. The test is free for military service members. A CLEP test helps making college more interesting; the students can move right into advanced courses. A CLEP test can help students to complete their graduation timely, if they are just a few credits away from graduating. A CLEP test helps the students demonstrate their knowledge and proficiency.

Over 2,900 colleges and universities accept CLEP General and Subject tests for credits. The American Council on Education (ACE) recommends minimum score for awarding credit. The institutions determine the standard of acceptable score and the amount of credit granted for each CLEP test.

Presently, CLEP test are available in Business, Composition and Literature, Foreign Languages, History and Social Sciences, and Science and Mathematics. A business CLEP test can help earning 3 to 6 credits; Composition and Literature CLEP test can help earning 6 credits; Foreign Languages CLEP test can help earning 6 to 18 credits; History and Social Sciences CLEP test can help earning 3 to 6 credits; and Science and Mathematics can help earning 3 to 6 credits.

CLEP - General Guide for newbies
Posted by: sgloer - 06-20-2007, 08:30 AM - Forum: Clep Study Guide - Replies (2)

The College Level Examination Program or CLEP is a system of testing people's college level knowledge acquired through course work, independent study, cultural pursuits, travel, special interests, military service schools, and professional development. The CLEP is comprised of a series of CLEP tests that are organized at testing centers on college and university campuses.

Over 2,900 colleges and universities accept CLEP General and Subject exams for credits. A CLEP test or exam helps the US students in high schools or universities to win credits for the successful completion of their respective courses for each academic term. A CLEP test covers the syllabus taught in courses that are taken by most students, as requirements in the first two years of college.

The CLEP tests may have different designs or patterns; some correspond to one-semester courses and some correspond to full-year or two-year courses. The pattern or design is usually given in a CLEP exam's description. Generally, a CLEP test is intended to cover material in a one-semester course. A CLEP test is usually 90 minutes long, and except for English Composition with Essay, a CLEP test mostly includes multiple-choice questions or fill-ins.

The minimum score for awarding credit is recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE), but the standard of acceptable score and the amount of credit granted for each CLEP test is determined by the institutions concerned. Usually, a college or University grants the same amount of credit to students earning satisfactory scores on the CLEP test as it grants to students successfully completing that course.

The CLEP tests are managed by the College Board, a not-for-profit examination board in the United States. Founded in the 19th century, the College Board also manages standardized tests, such as the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, CLEP, ACCUPLACER, and the subject-specific SAT Subject Tests and Advanced Placement tests.

The current fee for a CLEP test is $60 ($65, effective July 1, 2007); however the CLEP tests are free for Military personnel. The College Board brought in a computer-based version of the CLEP tests at national test centers at colleges and universities in July 2001. There are now over 1300 colleges and universities that administer the CLEP eCBT tests. On Feb 16 2004, DANTES up-front funding of the CLEP eCBT test fee for eligible military and civilian examinees at national test centers. However, DANTES does not fund the advance, non-refundable registration fee that is charged by national test centers to reserve a date and time for testing. The examinee is responsible for paying this fee that ranges from $15 to $25 per test.

I have searched the forum about this test. I am currently using IC, REA, and Petersons site. I have found that the Petersons site and the REA book practice tests seem completely different. The Petersons test seem easier and from what I have read in the past, normally the Petersons tests are more difficult. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, is the test pretty straight forward or is there a lot of situational questions?

Thanks for the help!
