Credit banking with one of the "Big Three"
Posted by: Old Rusty Pipe - 04-06-2007, 03:02 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

I have a problem I was hoping I could get some thoughts on. Recently ACE finally got around to evaluate one of the training schools I've been to in the Navy. They ended up awarding 15 upper level electronic credits for it. This evaluation happened 11/06. I went through the school in 8/05. After contacting ACE, they informed me that I was ineligible for the credit because I attended before the actual evaluation period. They also mentioned that it is ultimately up to the individual college to assess my training, and that they are free to use the recommended credit even though ACE won't put it on my SMART transcript. I'm looking to salvage some of these credits, with 15 upper levels I can't help but feel compelled to try.

The best I can come up with is try to credit bank at a RA college that will work with me, since its really a technicality denying me these credits I feel I have honestly earned. I figure that Excelsior, Thomas Edison, or Charter Oak will probably be my best shot at this.

For those who attend any of these schools, which would you say is the most understanding for a situation like this? I'm not looking to enroll, but merely to get these on a transcript I can use later on.

If anyone could think of another school that may help, I'd love to hear about it.

Any ideas?

Stumbled across this and thought I would pass it along to those interested in a inexpensive Masters Degree...

Tuition Offer

...and for those adult learners that may be interested in skipping the undergrad and going straight to MBA.

Online Graduate, Undergraduate, and Certificate Programs - Aspen University

I'm not a Aspen shill - just passing along info.

Downside with Aspen is it's DETC (not RA).

What is everyone taking for Math that is enrolled in the LA program for Excelsior? Is there Liberal Arts Math or any other kind of math besides Algebra. I don't want to clep it and don't want to take algebra in a classroom. Are there any other options?

  Free Peterson's CLEP Prep
Posted by: journey - 04-05-2007, 08:45 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

I am still new to the forum so hopefully I am not duplicating efforts here. I found this link today that took me to a free pdf of Peterson's CLEP prep tests. It's a 2005 edition but still may give some valuable information. I searched the link and did not see that it was in another thread so I hope it will be of help to someone. The subjects included were Composition, College Math, Humanities, Social Sciences & History and Natural Science.

I bombed biology this week so I signed up for Natural Science and was searching hard for more resouces. I am also going to order the David and Laurie download. Any feedback on that would be great.

This forum is an excellent resoure. It keeps me encourage.

Here's the link: http://www.petersons.com/pdf/free/ClepSuccess.pdf

TESC Psychology of Personality, any tips anyone?
Posted by: dgreenes - 04-05-2007, 05:31 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (9)

Hi everyone! I need to take a Thomas Edison Psychology of Personality Exam and although I understand that IC does not have flashcards for it, I was wondering if anyone on this forum took this test or has any feedback, tips or advice on it. Specifically, I'm looking for which materials to study from. They give a list of 4 textbooks but I obviously can not go through all of them. Thank you so much in advance.

  CLEP French Feedback/Review
Posted by: gratisair - 04-04-2007, 11:34 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Just did French today and got a 71, my second highest score yet.

Okay I studied French for a long time so this was a gimme, even so here are some suggestions.

1) take notes during the listening portions of the exam, often you will be barraged with numbers and things to remember, notes helped me.

2) Read at least a few short stories the week before you take the test so you can start to think in French.

3) Go with your gut if you are not sure of an answer.
