Passed Gerontology today with a B!
Posted by: adoncia - 12-29-2006, 05:56 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

Hello everyone,
I took Gerontology today and passed with a score of B.The exam was much harder compared to Adulthood and Aging.I had expected both of them to be on the same level but no! Gerontology had a lot more statistics related questions and many of the other questions were subjective. In fact i was expecting maybe a C after the exam so was happy to see my scoreSmile
I used Instantcert and the companion website quizzes posted by Beckysharp in another thread. Thanks for those CrystalSmile
I do think if i had worked harder and studied more i could have done better.I got overconfident after Adulthood and Aging.
Instantcert is enough to pass for for both these exams. The quizzes are good for reinforcement and as a supplement to instantcert.
I plan to take Abnormal Psychology next and all i have and will use are instantcert and the ECE practice exams.
Do you think this will be enough for this one.I have read on other threads that this a hard exam.
Also Crystal if you are reading this...is there a similar companion site for quizzes for this exam and the research exam.
Thanks a bunch everyone,
Adoncia

  US History II
Posted by: B2MANLEY - 12-29-2006, 08:56 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (12)

Ok....I am getting ready to take US History II on 1/10. I am a little nervous as I took US History I last July and failed (by one point). I wanted to get some opinions on something. I have been studying IC and the REA book pretty hard for a couple of weeks now, but one thing I have noticed is that this exam covers so much material, by the time I get to Kennedy/Johnson/Reagan Era, I have completed forgotten most of Reconstruction/Progressive/Imperialism Era material. I have gone over this stuff with a pretty good amount of detail, it just concerns me that the exam is so broad-based (chronologically).

Here's what I plan to do to remedy this. Since I have a pretty solid "high-level" understanding of the material, I plan to cram for 3-4 hours on the entire era (1865-present) for a couple of nights before the exam. I am hoping this will keep most of the material fresh in mind, at least enough to get a passing score.

Thoughts???

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions....

  DSST Org Behavior
Posted by: Blonco - 12-28-2006, 10:14 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (9)

I will be taking my first DSST (or CLEP) test next week on Thursday the 4th. I have been reviewing the IC flashcards and have 98% of the material down. Please, if you don't mind, send some good vibes my way this week and next week while I continue to review for this exam.

I would like to thank everyone on this forum for all of the support that can be seen in every thread. I finally built up courage enough (with the help of everyone here) to jump off the deep end and try to test out of a class as opposed to sitting in the classroom. If this one goes well, I will take MacroEcon the following week after 1 week of hard studying followed by Money and Banking a couple of weeks after that.

Heres to your health, next week!

I am taking the DSST Heres to your health exam next week. This is the only exam I need to pass in order to get my bachelors. After taking the D&A, and now going over the IC for this exam, it seems pretty straight foward. Has anyone seen any difficulty with this exam, and has anyone remembered what type of questions are asked?

  Calculus
Posted by: blueyzz28 - 12-27-2006, 06:37 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

For those that have finished their business degrees or plan on continuing their studies with a masters degree, how important is it to take calculus? Calculus is not required for the Excelsior degree and I do not believe it would be a part of a masters program but admissions committee's may look for this type course on your transcript.

ECE World Conflicts and ECE World Religions-which one is easier?
Posted by: adoncia - 12-27-2006, 02:19 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi everyone,
I have 8 more exams to go for my BS in Liberal Studies.I will take the Gerontology exam on Friday and if i pass i need 7 more.
I have decided to take:
World Pop
Research Methods in Psychology
College Writing
Statistics
World Conflicts
World Population
DSST Soviet Union
Now i have been looking at World Population is supposed to be my next exam after Gerontology and i find it difficult to study if i want to do it in a week.
I have scheduled it for Jan 6th,but since there is no instantcert guide for this i will have to make my own notes and read Week's book etc which take awhile.
Now because of this experience i was thinking maybe i should take only one exam between World Conflicts and World Religion and go for maybe ECE Abnormal Psychology simply because Instantcert has a guide and so i might be able to do it in a week. The reason i did not opt for this one in the first place was because i am interested in the former two subject matter...but i can always read about them later when i am done.
So i need your advice for this guys...what do you think?

  Free Berkeley Podcasts

Berkeley has a bunch of free podcasts on their site from actual classes, some of which may help with CLEP and DANTES tests that you might be taking. For instance, I'm downloading the Statistics podcasts to be able to listen in the car.

You don't necessarily need an ipod or other MP3 player to make use of these though. Technically, you could download the MP3 files with the podcast and just listen on your computer or burn CDs for the car.

More info on podcasts here.

  Have taken your advice...
Posted by: Machelle - 12-23-2006, 01:29 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Hi All,

I have taken your advice and put my application in for Excelsior! I am interested to see what they come back with. I want to go into the BS Accounting program, and I have already completed Accounting I at my local community college which UOP does not accept since it's not an upper level course (funny, it surely was intense enough to be considered upper level to me!). I figure that I will stay enrolled at UOP until I hear back from them, and meanwhile complete another 3 credits there (Business Law). It couldn't hurt, since it is covered by financial aid.

I wish I knew more about how financial aid works and being the fact that I would still be enrolled in college, if my student loans would still be in deferrment until I graduated. Also, since financial aid does not cover Excelsior, what happens with the money they have already paid out for the year? I guess Excelsior could perhaps answer that for me.

  CLEP and UOP
Posted by: lbehrler - 12-23-2006, 01:20 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Does anyone have experience with CLEP acceptance by UOP? I was wondering how long does it take for credit to post, how many credits can you CLEP, do they issue a grade for the results or just a pass / fail.

Thanks
