  Awesome Study Source!
Posted by: Bongsau - 01-16-2007, 01:33 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Hey, my brother just forwarded me a link for Massachussetts Institute of Technology. They have "open sourced" all of their courses. ANYBODY can take access all of thier course material for free. Looks like it could be a very beneficial resource for people on this forum! If I wasn't so dang close to graduation, I would be really excited about this supplement to Instantcert.

  Humanities CLEP
Posted by: DHammond - 01-16-2007, 01:21 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

Hey all,

I need six hours in my Liberal Studies area, for a BA in Liberal Studies from TESC. I thought about College Math, and started a little studying on that one, but it has been some time since I've done any algebra stuff, and the thought of releanring all that has me reconsidering. Will the Humanities CLEP satisfy 6 SH in the Liberal Studies area? - I have not used either of the 2 lower level courses that I'm allowed in that area.

Humanities is listed as one of the categories the hours have to come from for the LS area, so I'm assuming this exam would work. I've asked my advisor and just haven't heard back yet, and wanted to start studying.

Thanks for any advice you've got folks,
David

  Need GPA Calculating Help
Posted by: Basket Weaver - 01-16-2007, 01:12 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

Hello again. I finially talked to my councelor at Excelsior but that proved to be a monumental waste of time; for whatever reason she was unable to calculate my GPA.

As it stands now I have a 3.31 GPA with 2 A's not figured in yet. I need to know if getting an A on my last remaining test will get me 3.50 or not. I looked online and found a plethora of GPA calculators, but they required I put each class in, problem with this is each college gives credit differently.

Does anyone know the following:

1) What will my 3.31 GPA be with the 2 A's figured in?

2) Using the GPA from question 1, will geting an A on the last test put me at, or above, a 3.50?

Thanks, Lee

  One of us is done!!!!
Posted by: DHammond - 01-15-2007, 06:29 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

Woooohoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My girlfriend Anna is done!! She took her last and final exam, DSST Criminal Justice, this past Thursday, and got by with a 52 (you needed a 48 to pass). I also took this exam, (I scored a 51 - whew!) and we both thought there was a fair amount of material on the exam, that wasn't on IC. But, we didn't study super hard for that exam, so I would still say IC is enough to pass.

After we took CJ, I went on to take Intro to Law Enforcement, and then Principles of Supervision. My brain was so toasted when I was done!! I wouldn't neccessarily recomend that many tests in one day, but if they're related, and you can stay focused that long, it is doable. IC was enough for Law Enforcement, but there still seemed to be a fair amount on the exam that IC didn't cover as well. And as has been noted before, CJ and Intro to LE do overlap, so that was part of why I attempted the 3 exams in one day.

Principles of Supervision was pretty easy - with very little study (2-3 hours?) I passed with a 55 (passing: 46)

So, Anna is done! And for me: I've 9 three SH exams to go (27 SH's) - 8 exams if I end up taking the Humanities CLEP which is 6 SH.

This forum and study material is worth it's weight in gold - thanks so much for all the help folks, it would have been tons more difficult without all of you!!!

David and Anna

  tesc clep/dantes
Posted by: upgray - 01-15-2007, 12:42 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

Before enrolling in tesc, they are not very helpful with questions. I am trying to test before i enroll to save money. I want to find a list that tells you which cleps/dantes apply to which parts of the curriculum. I can only find the general requirements for the BSAST (using an aircraft mechanic's license for the area of study). Any ideas?

This is the only relevant link i could find. Thanks.

My friend just emailed me this link. It is a site linking to all sorts of free resources covering quite a range of topics. I haven't been able to really look through even a fraction of this. But for those interested:

Pretty self explanatory question.

I have just my UL creds to go and I want to test out what is left, so I need some UL Dantes and ECE creds. and want to transfer them to TESC.

  Idiot's Guide to Accounting
Posted by: Old Rusty Pipe - 01-14-2007, 03:46 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Has anyone used the Complete Idiot's Guide to Accounting. I've decided to knock this one out for my next CLEP, as it is the hardest one left on my list and was wondering if I should get this book?

I'm looking for something I can read while I'm at work and can't necessarily get access to the internet.

Also what about the Accounting Workbook for Dummies?
