Bachelors Degree Finally in Reach!
Posted by: chiotwnron - 09-27-2006, 02:31 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (8)

Professional student finally has Bachelors degree in reach Just three upper level exams left to take until I am finished with my Excelsior BS in Liberal studies degree. I am so happy; I discovered the Big Three and finally took the leap into the world of testing!
I plan to take the following three exams to get across the finish line (BS Degree)...

Civil War
Drug & Alcohol Abuse
Abnormal Psychology

I am also planning on taking the follwoing exams as back up;
Psychology of Adulthood and Aging
DSST Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union

I plan to take the exams below just because, I think I could pass them all with a little study combined with the fact these exams won't cost me and money since they are free to military members. Smile Then maybe I get and additional BS or BA degree.
Introductory Psychology
CLEP Introductory Sociology
CLEP Introduction to Educational Psychology
CLEP Business law
Dantes Business law II
CLEP U.S. History I: Early Colonizations to 1877
CLEP U.S. History II: 1865 to the Present
CLEP Western Civilization I: Ancient Near East to 1648
CLEP Western Civilization II: 1648 to the Present
DSST Art of the Western World
DSST Western Europe since 1945
DSST An Introduction to the Modern Middle East
DSST A History of the Vietnam War
DSST Foundations of Education
DSST General Anthropology
DSST Introduction to Law Enforcement
CLEP Natural Sciences
DSST Environment & Humanity

Wish me luck!

  Finished with testing (I think)
Posted by: SimonTam - 09-26-2006, 02:20 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

Hi all,

After 11 CLEPS and 4 DANTES tests since I started in late June, I have finished all testing that I need. Big Grin Well, I may have to take 1 more test, but I won't know that until I finished with all of my accounting courses. Just 7 courses to go and I'll be completely finished with my BS in Accounting. Smile It sure does feel good to be close to finishing.

Criminal Justice and Human Growth and Development

Hello All, I have found a testing center that has the DSST Internet-Based Testing (IBT) available. It is at Trevecca College just outside of Nashville, Tn.
I will be taking the CJ DSST and the HGD CLEP tests on Thursday. All the DSST's are not available but they are getting there. No waiting 5 WEEKS! for a score report. I used IC and Petersons for the HGD and IC for Criminal Justice. Criminal Justice seems to be somewhat easy and HGD a little tougher but I think I have them down.

For anyone that lives close to Nashville here is the link to the college testing center: http://www.trevecca.edu/academics/academ...sting.html

I'll report back with the results.

BTW Thanks to all who post to this forum, the information has been EXTREMELY helpful and I will continue to read and post occasionally to "give some back" Thanks Again
Smile

  Principles of Supervision
Posted by: 50fingersntoes - 09-25-2006, 08:52 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

I have read some post on here about this test, but many of them say "easy" or "hard", but not exactly what is on the test? I did see one post that stated that there were scenerios on it. I have been studying for the past week and a half for this and feel that next week would be a great time to take it. I just haven't a clue if I am prepared well enough. I seem to really know the IC material, but am a bit worried that I am over looking something. Anyone help me out here?

THANK YOU!!

  Intro Acct'g and A&I Lit

I am scheduled to take both of these exams tomorrow so I may be 12 credits richer by tomorrow night. They have nothing whatsoever to do with each other but I want to take a bunch of pass/fail cleps before I register in November for Excelsior's psych BA. Does anyone know if calculators are allowed on the intro accounting exam?

  Clep English Comp/Freshman College Comp

Has anyone taken both English Comp general clep and Freshman College Comp? How do they compare? Can you take both for credit or do you have to choose because one cancels the other out?

  Non-Title IV School Scholarships?
Posted by: ShotoJuku - 09-24-2006, 01:35 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (2)

As many of you know, I just completed my Bachelors Degree from Excelsior and will in all probability be enrolling in the masters program at CSU. Like Excelsior, CSU is also not a Title IV school preventing me from obtaining any federal student loans and such.

I am looking for any alternatives, including scholarships to help ease the financial burdens ahead. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

  Any Ex-Nukes out there?
Posted by: wfb0l2c - 09-24-2006, 09:09 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (8)

I'm just curious to see if there are any IC members who are ex-nukes. If so, what degrees are being pursued? I'm pursuing a BST w/an Electronics/Instrumentation specialty from Excelsior College and am currently enrolled in an English Comp class at the local community college. My next two exams will be DANTES MIS and CLEP Spanish. ONLY 21 credits to go!

  math requirement
Posted by: Johanna - 09-23-2006, 08:22 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

Can anyone tell me if Dantes Business Math will satisfy Excelsior's math requirement for a BS/BA psychology? I know I'll have to do statistics but it would be great if I could skip clep college math 'cause I'd have to do some serious studying or maybe even take a class to help me. Business math is very easy (at least for someone with an accounting background).

  DANTES - Test Series Designators - SF/SG/SE/SH?
Posted by: wfb0l2c - 09-23-2006, 11:07 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

The EC Bus Degree Catalog has test series designators (i.e. SF/SG/SE 5##) associated with the DANTES exams listed on pages 39 and 40. I sat for three DANTES exams this past week - Principles of Supervision, Ethics in America, and Intro to Computing, but I don't recall the designators on the answer sheets. I think Principles of Supervision had an SH designator, but I'm not sure and it is not one that is referenced on pgs 39 or 40 of ,the EC Bus Cat.

Has anyone not been awarded credit for a DANTES exam from Excelsior because of the designator associated with the test they took? The community college where I took my exams was not too organized and I'm concerned that the exams they have on-file may be out of date.
Note - I did not discover this issue in the EC Bus Cat until after I sat for the exams.
