  SO much in common
Posted by: RBOWMAN - 04-21-2006, 09:10 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (24)

It's great to have the insight of 130 fellow students pooling our insight and hopes together. I do not want to sound pedestrian in my comments, but you all make a common goal achieveable. Thank you!! Let's all remember that we can achieve our goals if we somehow continue to help each other out along the the way. For myself ..I say thank you!!

Cant tell if I passed the Analyzing Lit CLEP
Posted by: speeddegree - 04-21-2006, 04:31 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

I have heard from many people that this test was easy. It was brutal for me... I ran out of time in spite of all the warnings. It really looked like the clock was moving twice as fastSmile

Anyway, the test lady gave me my clep score report which has two score numbers. The Score number is a 47 and the ACE number is a 50. So either I barely passed or barely failed. I cant tell.

I would be using this clep at thomas edison. I am not an enrolled student yet so there is no one to ask. Soooo, I ask the group did I barely pass or did I barely fail. I hope to hear from the Thomas Edison people out there especially. Thanks!!

  Thomas Edison State College Question

Okay , in a not too veiled effort to skirt around my science choices of biology or natural science....TESC office closed so I couldn't ask them...let's say I took "Here' To Your Health" {which I did and passed} and then something like The Race To Save the Planet", would that satisfy my six credits of the dreaded science requirement??????????

  Bombed Biology!!
Posted by: nwscc - 04-20-2006, 09:08 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (12)

I studied for almost a month, going over every biology section more than twice and reading all of passyourclass material repeatedly. The test was nothing like anything I’d studied or read in ANY of the material from ANY resource I used. I scored a 49 !!! This really sucks because it was the last class I needed to graduate.

I will be taking the DSST Your Health and You test next week so I can graduate.

passyourclass.com will be getting a VERY nasty email from me very soon.

  COSC, TESC, or Excelsior?
Posted by: rjc311 - 04-20-2006, 05:59 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (11)

Since I won't be able to get a degree from the college I am enrolled in without taking lots of unnecessary classes (must take 25% of your classes at SPC to get a degree from them) I have been researching Excelsior as an alternative. They seem to have a really nice program--right now I intend to go for my BA in History. But, I keep seeing posts about TESC and wonder if I should look into them. This really peaked my interest after reading about all of those FEMA free courses!!! Another school that I am somewhat familiar with is Charter Oak State College in Connecticut. It seems to be similar to TESC. Anybody have any comments on Charter Oak as another option? I plan to test out of every possible class that I can (thanks to the fact that I found Instantcert!!).

I would love to see a little debate about the plusses and minuses of each and why.
Thanks!

FEMA & FREE College Credit courses
Posted by: Frank - 04-20-2006, 12:41 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (211)

FEMA is offering about 55 classes that you can take online for FREE. Of these approx. 35 are worth college credit. I need to review the process on their website again but once the exam is completed you can have the emailed FEMA certificate sent to a this college that is affiliated with FEMA. Open an account with the college and then have that college forward a transcript to your college. From the courses I saw most should be easily accepted as electives.

FLexible testing sites in NYC or close
Posted by: ramiller1976us - 04-20-2006, 12:38 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (13)

Hello,
I am living in Europe at the moment and am having a heck of a time being able to take a dantes or clep over here. So decided to fly to NYC and take a bunch of them there. I will probably stay a week or 10 days and stay in a youth hostel..
Anyways i have looked online and emailed alot of the sites but its hard to get a response. Are then any that you know of that test every day or at least more then 2x a month. I am finding that many test 2x a month...

I need a place that test several times a day and hopefully one that offers Clap and dantes.......

If you know of such a place please let me know....

If you live in another Eastern major city and have a flexible test site there let me know... I dont have to go to NYC

The top college in terms of clep and dantes
Posted by: RBOWMAN - 04-20-2006, 10:54 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (28)

I'd be real interested to hear everyone's opinion on cooperation they have rec'd from their college regarding clep and dantes programs. I have always heard that Thomas Edison, Excelsior, and Ohio U. were the best in cooperating and facilitating degree earning in a timely fashion. Thoughts..pros ,cons.. suggestions on pitfalls to avoid?

  Thomas Edison State College
Posted by: 94W - 04-19-2006, 09:32 PM - Forum: [ARCHIVE] Excelsior, Thomas Edison, and Charter Oak Specific Discussion - Replies (22)

I noticed several people in the posts say that they were students at TESC. I have been with them for almost a year and they are O.K. I am currently working towards my Bachelors in History. I have seven more Cleps & DSSTs to get my degree.
When I decided to stop taking classes and test out I experienced some frustration with the advising department. I had to call and say OK, how will this one fit in. Then I found what I was looking for.

http://www.tesc.edu/catalog/pdf/catalog.pdf

It lists on page 120 and 121 each test and how they award credit. Why the advisor didn't advise me to look there I will never know. I hope this is useful!Cool
