  Very confused
Posted by: basilia - 02-07-2025, 02:48 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (1)

Hi all. I’m looking at UMPI to study (whichever option is cheapest) anything related to IT that will help my career like Business Management, Project Management, etc. I’m very confused because “Management” (https://www.umpi.edu/yourpace/academic_p...anagement/) lists Project Management & Information Systems Concentration, BBA, also Project Management Minor (BAS/BLS) and Management Information Systems Minor (BAS/BLS).
I have the BOG degree from Pierpont. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
I have:

Visual Communications

College Algebra

Macroeconomics

Introduction to Business

Introduction to Statistics

English Composition I

Human Biology

Introduction to Relational Databases

Google UX Design Professional Certificate

Workplace Writing II

Workplace Communication

Introduction to Web Development

History Major & Transfer Credits Questions
Posted by: slreed - 02-07-2025, 11:34 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (4)

I’ve already have Transfer Credits Report and my Degree Plan Progress. I transferred 79 credits from 4 year colleges I attended.

Here’s what I have left to complete:

Gen Ed

2D Eng 211 or Art 108

3A Math 101 or 140

3B Math 101 or 140

3D Env 110

History
21 credits of UL courses

Gen Electives
9 credits

1. Would I be able to complete my Gen Ed courses through Sophia and transfer them in? That would make my total transfer hours 91. I know I would still need to take 30 at UMPI.

2. What EASY General Electives do you suggest for my 9 credits?

3. From what I’ve gathered, my 21 History credits will be basically whatever is currently offered which will fulfill that requirement and my advisor will be able to tell me those courses. Does that sound correct?

4. My goal is to finish the Sophia Gen Ed courses over the next few weeks until the beginning of the Spring term at UMPI. Then take the 10 courses remaining to finish my degree during the Spring term at UMPI. Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice? I’m currently waiting to be assigned an advisor.

Thank you for any advice or input.

Credly won't show earned badges... Help!
Posted by: SCYankee - 02-07-2025, 08:05 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

I'm not sure where exactly to post this thread, but since we're all familiar with Credly by now, maybe some folks here have an inside track to getting assistance.

These badges are for my son. He has earned several NCCER badges through his high school construction program. They show clearly in his NCCER account, but not in Credly. We set up his Credly account a year ago in preparation for him to earn these badges.

1. Yes, both account use the same email. (I have sent screenshots to NCCER and Credly to prove this.)

2. NCCER says they cannot see a Credly account, and so there is no way to send them.

3. Credly kept giving me a canned response to contact NCCER. I asked to elevate the issue, and a person named Sydney Roberts joined the discussion (presumably as a supervisor) and said he will get to work on it directly with NCCER. Since then, I haven't gotten updates or responses.

The Credly FB page shows no responses to any comments. Nor did anybody reply to my FB communication.

Does anybody here have any other way to contact Credly or get help?

Thanks.

  National Black History Month

So distracted by so many other issues, I missed this.

I'm thrilled to see it.

As the DoD is an Executive Agency, I expect Secretary Hegseth to get with the program.

Too often Black History is Hidden History. I am looking forward to enrolling in summer classes on the Harlem Renaissance. Just now, I am trying to read about some of the big names.

Online Degrees Out of Reach: Fewer than half of students graudate in 8 years
Posted by: LevelUP - 02-05-2025, 06:28 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

Since this article covers most of the colleges we recommend, I thought it would be good to share.

Online Degrees Out of Reach?

Fewer than half of students at the largest nonprofit online institutions earn a degree after eight years. Is it an unfortunate reality or a cry for accountability?

There is a lot of context to consider in this data. Thoughts?

Please Advise the Fastest Path to a Bachelor Degree
Posted by: bioscienceguy - 02-04-2025, 08:27 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (3)

The 4 year degree has been a thorn in my side for far too long. I am fortunate to have a great union government job that compensates me modestly, owing in a large part to my military background. But I am now hard stuck salary wise absent a bachelor degree. I work as a laboratory technician for an environmental laboratory on the government side and would like to promote up to either a Microbiologist or Chemist. I need a degree that says Biological Science or Environmental Science ... I might be able to squeeze by with a degree with a major in 'Environmental Studies'.

I tried going back to retake the beginning Biology courses last semester in person, I did well in them but honestly ... I don't think I want to take the pre-med curriculum. I'm 35 years old, I don't want to go to graduate school or medical school. It's a waste of money to take the premed curriculum which is typically required for a biological science major, and way too time consuming. I just want a piece of paper from a not-for-profit college to slap on my resume, as fast as possible and without a big price tag. Time is of the essence as my workplace is a very comfy place to retire with our pension and we are paid quite well for our field. If I miss someone's retirement it could be 5-10 years until the next time someone retires and their position opens.

Right now I'm leaning towards TESU Environmental Studies bachelor online ... but I'm not sure how the transfer work since it requires so much transferred courses. If I could transfer all my old CC credits and get credit for work + military credits ... that would be awesome!

  Trumpist Leaders Attacking Christian Charities
Posted by: Jonathan Whatley - 02-04-2025, 08:23 AM - Forum: Off Topic - No Replies

Brian Kaylor in Word&Way Wrote:The first week of the new Trump administration was filled with attacks on the religious liberty rights of Episcopalians after Episcopal Bishop Mariann Budde asked the new president during an inauguration prayer service to “have mercy” on LGBTQ children and migrant workers. The second week featured Vice President J.D. Vance attacking the Catholic Church for assisting immigrants and refugees as he made inaccurate claims to suggest they care more about money than people.

Over the weekend, another Christian group found itself in the crosshairs of Trumpian figures: the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. […] On Saturday evening (Feb. 1), disgraced former Lt. General Michael Flynn went to war against the ELCA, accusing them, without evidence, of illegally taking taxpayer money. It’s not just that Flynn disagrees with their efforts to help immigrants, refugees, and others. Flynn also used scare quotes in his social media post to question the religiosity of Lutherans. Some of the groups he targeted for criticism are jointly affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, which is a smaller, more conservative, and evangelical branch of the Lutheran tradition.

“Now it’s the ‘Lutheran’ faith (this use of ‘religion’ as a money laundering operation must end),” Flynn wrote on X, the social media platform owned by Trumpian oligarch Elon Musk. “Lutheran Family Services and affiliated organizations receive massive amounts of taxpayer dollars, and the numbers speak for themselves. These funds, total BILLIONS of American taxpayer dollars. … It’s time to hold these organizations accountable. American taxpayers deserve transparency. Enough is enough!”

Alongside his rant, Flynn posted a screenshot of grants received by Lutheran organizations from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Although the focus of his attack seemed to be on immigrant and refugee assistance — things now targeted by the Trump administration — the nonprofits he attacked also assist with foster care, adoption, head start, food pantries, elder care, resources for victims of domestic abuse, and more. A few days earlier, Flynn had joined Vance in leveling similar attacks against the Catholic Church. As for the Lutheran groups, he pledged to “examine them all and shut them down,” and he labeled one ELCA-affiliated group a “snake oil organization.” […]

Flynn’s broadside over the weekend received lots of affirmation from his supporters. And it quickly grew in reach after Musk, who recently sparked headlines for twice making a Nazi salute, amplified Flynn’s post and added in the wee hours on Sunday, “The DOGE team is rapidly shutting down these illegal payments.” He offered no evidence to suggest any payments were actually illegal. […]

At various RAT stops [ReAwaken America Tour stops in recent years], Flynn offered a vision of authoritarian control over religion as he called for there to be “one nation under God and one religion under God,” urged pastors to preach more about the U.S. Constitution than the Bible, and claimed that those who disagree with him “don’t believe in God” and “have no soul.” Flynn’s also led QAnon-themed conferences at churches across the country.
